Error 5E (SE) in a Samsung washing machine

Error 5E (aka SE) on the Samsung washing machine can occur quite often if the owners do not take care of it properly, and sometimes when normal care is carried out. The decoding of the 5E error is quite certain, however, it does not give an answer to the question of what exactly broke in the Samsung washing machine. It only determines a possible list of reasons that we are to discuss in the framework of the article.

Why does an error occur?

Error 5E is usually displayed on the display of the Samsung washing machine at a time when the program has already completed the wash and is trying to start rinsing the laundry. At this point, according to the program, the machine must drain the dirty soapy water that was used for washing and pour clean rinse water. This is where the problem arises. The system simply can not drain dirty water and the controller gives a 5E error.

This error occurs due to the inability to drain the water. Something like this error is decrypted. What are the possible causes of this error, which is why the system cannot drain dirty water? There are three main reasons:

• the drain filter is so clogged that water simply does not pass through it into the drain hose;
• clogged in the drain hose, either at the junction with the filter or at the junction with the siphon;
• water is not pumped out due to a malfunction of the drain pump.

Note! To prevent unpleasant blockages in the machine, before washing, check the pockets of things being put into the drum, pull out a trifle, keys and so on.

On some models of washing machines from Samsung instead of error 5e code may pop up nd or SE, keep in mind that this is all the same error. Do not confuse with the code E5. It indicates a malfunction in the heating element of the washing machine.

Looking for the source of the error: procedure

If the machine suddenly freezes during washing and the code 5E is displayed, the first thing you should do is check the garbage filter, which is usually located in the lower right corner of the machine body. This is the most common procedure, which is described by the manufacturer of the washing machine in the instructions, and if you do not know anything about it, then you have never cleaned the filter. Next, you need to check the drain hose, possibly a blockage has formed in it. Remove all laundry from the drum, then remove the drain hose from the siphon or from the sewer and drop its end into the bath or sink. So the leaving water will be clearly visible. After that, start the washing program and watch. If the pump tries to push water through the hose, but it barely runs, then the hose is clogged.

Samsung washing machines work quite quietly, but if you listen to their work while draining the water, you can distinguish the specific sound made by the running drain pump. So, if you threw the end of the drain hose into the bathroom and water does not run out of it at all after washing, at the same time, a specific sound of the operation of the drain pump is not heard - most likely the problem is in it!

Important! Damage to the drain pump of the washing machine is considered a rather serious problem. Most likely, it will not be possible to solve it on their own, and you will need to contact a specialist.

The cause of the error has been determined: how to fix it?

The easiest way to solve the problem is if the cause of the 5E error of the samsung washing machine is a dirty filter. How to quickly clean the filter?

1. In the lower right corner of the machine body, find the plastic cover protecting the filter and the emergency drain hose. Open it.
2. Take a suitable container to drain dirty water from the drum (a basin is best).
3. Remove the plug from the small rubber hose and drain all the water into the container.
4. Without removing the container, turn the filter screw half a turn counterclockwise and remove it.
5. Inspect the hole for foreign objects, pull out everything that is stuck there, including lumps of fluff and hair.
6. Replace the screw and insert the plug into the emergency drain hose, and then close the plastic cover. The problem must be resolved.

If the cause of the 5E error is a serious blockage in the drain hose, it must be disconnected from the washing machine and then rinsed with a powerful water pressure. Rinsing the hose with water, you can bend and unbend it at the same time, so the mud plug will pop out sooner. It is also possible that clogging occurred deep in the sewer pipe or in the siphon. In this case, the dirty water will cease to leave not only the machine, but also through the drain of the sink.

You can clean the blockage formed in the siphon manually by unscrewing the plug and flushing its internal parts, but you may have to tinker with the sewer pipe. In this case, it is best to turn to a plumber who will quickly and professionally clean the pipes, but you can try liquids to remove blockages such as "Tiret Turbo or Mole. If liquids do not cope with clogging, try inserting a long steel wire with a small hook at the end into the sewer pipe; even a dense clog can be removed with it.

Note! Do not use aggressive chemistry when cleaning the drain hose of the washing machine, it may damage it.

In the worst case, error 5E may be caused by a breakdown of the drain pump. To get to it you have to deploy the machine and remove the back wall. Locating the drain pump is easy. Look at the valve to which the drain hose is connected, and this valve is in turn connected to the drain pump. As we already noted, it is not worth repairing the drain pump yourself, in extreme cases, you can independently produce replacement of the drain pump.

To summarize, we note that the se error on the Samsung washing machine (or the 5E error) is not as scary as it might seem at first glance. To find and eliminate its causes in most cases, you can do it yourself. But if you do not want to mess with blockages or are not confident in your abilities, consult a specialist.
