Did the item get dyed during washing? There is an exit!

The item became colored during washingA colored blouse “accidentally” ended up in the wash with white laundry, a black sock “got on” on a light T-shirt. What to do if one of the items faded during washing and left stains on other items? It turns out that there are many ways to correct the situation if the item has changed color during washing.

What colors are most likely to fade?

Not all fabrics fade. Typically, bright colored cotton fabrics and sometimes wool give off “extra” dye. The color fades greatly from new denim items, especially when washed in hot water. Red, dark green, orange, blue brown - any rich shade can cause trouble and stain an item of a different color during washing.

If there is a colored or contrasting trim, frill, or bow on a skirt or blouse, you should first study the inscriptions and icons on the label, and then wash such a product.

A “disaster” has happened! What to do?

The thing has become coloredAfter washing, your favorite item looks disgusting, covered in some kind of stains or stains of an unknown color. And you can’t wear it like this, and it’s a shame to throw it away. The first thing to do is re-wash the item with bleach or powder.

The second thing you should think about is using dry cleaning services. Using the appropriate equipment and using the right reagents, this problem can be neutralized.

If you are too lazy to look for dry cleaning or the item is not worth the additional costs, a list of products tested by housewives is quite suitable. Quite simple substances available in every home will help correct this problem.

The following components can be added to this list:

  • salt;
  • hydrogen peroxide;
  • stain removers for colored and white fabrics;
  • ammonia;
  • bleaches and powders;
  • lemon acid;
  • laundry soap;
  • bleach;
  • potassium permanganate.

Method using hydrogen peroxide

Thing fadedImmediately after discovering unauthorized coloring, place the still damp spoiled items in a basin or pan. Pour water, put it on the stove and add peroxide. 4-5 liters of water require 20 grams of peroxide solution. Heat and boil for about half an hour. The paint from the stains will transfer to the water, the item will be restored. This method can be used for white and colored products. If during washing the laundry is colored unevenly, then peroxide will eliminate this problem.

Ammonia acts similarly in smaller quantities (1 full tablespoon). The laundry is heated to a boil, rinsed in warm water and dried.

How to restore white products with starch?

White or light-colored items stained by faded items are sometimes enough to re-wash in hotter water or boil with powder. If this measure only lightens stains and stains, you need to proceed as follows:

  • take 1 tbsp. planed laundry soap, citric acid, starch, coarse salt;
  • add some water;
  • mix everything in a small container until it becomes a paste;
  • apply to the back of the product in the place where a stain occurred during washing;
  • stand for about half a day;
  • rinse thoroughly and dry.

It is important to act before the paint has time to harden in the fibers of the fabric.

Experimental methods

  1. If a thing has completely lost its appearance after coming into contact with a foreign dye and there is nothing left to lose, you can try “grandmother’s” recipe using potassium permanganate.A couple of crystals are dissolved in water, washing powder is added, and the damaged item is placed. After some time, rinse and dry.
  2. Another controversial method is to mix powders, bleaches and stain removers from different manufacturers at the same time and soak your favorite clothes in this “miracle potion”. No one is responsible for the resulting effect. If the thing dissolves in this hellish mixture, then you won’t have to throw anything away.

How to get an original item of clothing from a damaged item?

Any stain resulting from a faded item can be decorated. There are a huge number of ways to get exclusive clothes from items that seem to be damaged during washing.

  1. Got a few stains on your blouse? Let's increase their number! Take artistic fabric paints or ordinary watercolors and apply them in random order onto the surface of your favorite item with a sponge. First, to prevent the paint from imprinting on the second surface, you need to lay a layer of thick oilcloth or cardboard inside, which is removed before ironing. Dry for several hours, then iron thoroughly through additional fabric to secure. In the future, this masterpiece can be washed in warm water (up to 40 degrees) in the usual way.
  2. Again paints, a sponge and any stencil. The resulting fabric painting will not have an arbitrary, but a very specific floral or other ornament and design.
  3. Any design on fabric can be made with simple felt-tip pens. The method of fastening is the same - ironing.
  4. Don't feel like painting? No problem! Using simple sewing threads or you can embroider several random multi-colored lines at the spots.
  5. Applications made of non-fading ribbons, sewn rhinestones and flowers, sequins and beads will not only save the painted item, but will also turn it into an unusual wardrobe item.
  6. You can radically change the color of a cotton product by boiling it in aniline dye. A woolen item can shrink greatly, while an acrylic item, on the contrary, will stretch.
  7. It is important to remember that artistic painting methods are not suitable for all knitted items. This is a great place to use embroidery or appliqué. And the surest remedy is to wash light, dark and colored items separately.

  24. Gravatar state state:

    Peroxide works wonders, but it would probably be more effective to immediately take out the wet underwear and do the procedure with peroxide, but for me it dried for half a day in the active sun, and still the result is positive.

  28. Gravatar Zhenya Zhenya:

    The peroxide helped partially, where it boiled away the not very colored spots, and where there were brighter spots, barely noticeable traces remained. It also seems to me that the color itself has faded a little.

  29. Gravatar Katy Katy:

    To prevent things from being painted, you need to put the item in a basin, fill it with a bottle of vinegar and dilute it with water.

  30. Gravatar Elena Elena:

    Guys, thank you very much! I dyed my husband’s new white shirt: soaked it and threw it in a basin overnight along with the dark shirt. It didn’t seem to shed, but then I took it out and the white shirt was covered in gray stains. I washed it with Faberlic stain remover pencil and the house with Land soap, without any noticeable effect. Hydrogen peroxide and boiling saved the day!

  31. Gravatar Margarita Margarita:

    I tried to restore the color with peroxide! The original color was removed, and the acquired color took on an even greater color.

      The same. Completely ruined the item.

  32. Gravatar Elena Elena:

    Buy acrylic fabric paint in an aerosol can. It is easy to apply, dries quickly, and the color remains intact when washed. Some items, such as cotton, can be dyed completely by boiling them in aniline dye.

  37. Gravatar Marina Marina:

    Girls, the option with 100% hydrogen peroxide! I have a new shirt (cotton) with black and white stripes, it was covered in terrible stains (after hand washing). I tried to save it in a solution of salt and vinegar... I read the option with hydrogen peroxide and the shirt was saved! But I poured 70 grams of peroxide into 4 liters of water and literally after 10 minutes the result was already positive. Thank you very much to the site!!!

  38. Gravatar Tatyana Tatiana:

    I have a brown trouser suit with vanilla stripes and a large ruffle, new. I decided to wash it with my hands before wearing it, hung it up and discovered half an hour later, while I was going to the store to buy a melon, there were drips and stains on the light part. I immediately threw it all into the machine for an hour. Got it - horror! Even more stains and stains, the vanilla color turned dirty beige.In general, I put my synthetic suit in order with an explosive mixture. But it didn’t return the vanilla color, but it became a soft beige color without streaks. Ammonia is about 1-2 tablespoons, hydrogen peroxide can be 3-5 tablespoons, salt is 5 tablespoons, a little powder and pour 5 liters of water (cold, because it’s synthetic). I put things there for 2 hours, everything became fine. You can wear it!

  39. Gravatar Karina Karina:

    The T-shirt was white and after washing in the machine it turned pink. Wash it with a red sweater. I didn’t notice how the T-shirt ended up in the machine. Hydrogen peroxide didn't help.
