Dishwasher does not drain water - what to do?

At one point, without any warning, your dishwasher stops without having finished washing the dishes. Inside, there is water and does not go away, but instead of the sounds of a running pump and the murmur of water, you hear a strange buzz and click.

What to do? Let's try to figure out and find the reason why the dishwasher does not work.

Causes of malfunction

All the reasons that may be associated with the drain can be divided into two groups. The first group is associated with all kinds of blockages, and the second involves the breakdown (malfunction) of some unit of the dishwasher. We list all the causes of such a malfunction:

• the drain hose is bent in some place, so water does not physically leave the machine. It is enough to straighten it and try to turn on the machine again. Such a commonplace problem is rare.
• Coarse filter clogging. Do not neglect the simple rule - before loading clean dishes from the remnants of food. Bones, napkins, and other debris clog the filter openings and water cannot escape from the tank.
• clogged drain areas. Food that has slipped through the filter can create a blockage in any part of the drainage system, such as pipes, drain hose, or pump.
• the pump burned out;
• faulty pressure switch;
• the software module has broken.

In Bosch dishwashers from the SRV, SRS or SKF series on some models, a drain problem is only detected at the end of the program. In the middle of the cycle, the machine does not drain the water, but continues to wash the dishes only in waste water. But when you open the door, you will see that there is water left in the tank. Some car models may stop in the middle of the program, and the word “END ”and an indicator in the form of a drawn tap, which indicates an error in the program process.

On Bosch dishwashers from the SMV, SPS or SKS series, a display will appear fault code E24informing about a drain problem. If there is no display in the dishwasher, the lights will light up, and a beep will sound, the machine will stop working.

Note! On the Ariston dishwashers, the TO03 error will appear, on the Electrolux I20 machines, on the Kandy E2 machines.

Eliminate the blockage and change the pump

So, the dishwasher does not drain the water, then what to do? Disconnect it from the mains. Next, inspect the machine for blockages, it is best to start with a drain hose. Disconnect it from the sewer and lower it into a bucket, if water has gone, then the siphon or sewer is clogged. If the water does not go, look for a blockage in the dishwasher itself. First clean the filters, here's what you need to do:

1. open the door of the machine and pull out the basket for dishes;
2. unscrew the cover of the filter located at the bottom of the tank of the machine and remove the filter cup;
3. then pull out the net;
4. rinse the “glass” and the net under running water, if necessary using a toothbrush and dishwashing detergent;
5. then unscrew the cover of the drain pump and carefully check with your finger how the impeller rotates, perhaps debris also got into it, be careful, as not only fruit bones, but also small fragments from the dishes can fall there;
   

   Note! In Bosch dishwashers on srv or sgv models, the pump cover is held by one self-tapping screw, in Bosch smv or spv series the cover is latched, it is not always possible to open it.

If, after starting up the dishwasher, the water is still standing, it means that you need to look for the cause in the internal parts and, above all, in the pump. We will describe how to get to it.

1. First, you will need to drain the water from the dishwasher, manually scooping it out of the tank or tilting it forward so that the water spills out.
2. We take out the drain filter again.
3. Then we turn the car over “on the back” and remove the pallet, which is mounted on self-tapping screws.
   

   Important! When cleaning the pallet, be careful, in Bosch machines, an Aqua-stop sensor can be attached to it, so do not pull it so as not to break the wires.

4. We disconnect the sensor, remove the pan to the side.
5. Now unscrew the pump and remove the hoses from it.
   
6. Next, check the impeller, which should intermittently rotate. If there is no rotation, then the unit is better to replace.
7. Then check the resistance by connecting the multimeter probes to the pump contacts. Normally, the resistance should be about 200 ohms. Check if the pump is receiving voltage from the control board.
8. If the pump is faulty, it is best to buy an original spare part for Bosch or Ariston and put it in place of the idle one.

Checking the pressostat and software module

When there is water in the pan and does not leave, the reason for this may be a water level sensor. If a defect occurs in the pressure vessel or in the tube connected to the pressotat, the readings of the amount of water in the dishwasher are distorted. And with a full pan of water, the sensor may not send a signal to the control module, as a result, the pump will not work, water will remain in the tank. In this situation it is necessary Replacing the pressure switch in the dishwasher.

As you can see, the control module is involved in the chain for draining water. But because if it fails, then the water will not merge. This may be a short circuit, device wear or firmware error. In general, the software module is the most complex part in the machine and expensive. And it is better to entrust the work to replace it with a specialist, perhaps it will even be possible to repair the part.
