Why doesn't the dishwasher work?

Why the dishwasher does not workIf the dishwasher suddenly stops the cycle or refuses to turn on at all, do not despair and worry. There is a high probability that the dishwasher does not work due to a loose door, a blockage or other non-serious trouble. But guessing is not worth it - it is better to try to deal with the problem yourself. Our detailed instructions will help in accurate and quick diagnosis.

What is broken?

When the technique serves faithfully for 5 years or more, the causes of the malfunction lie in the banal wear of spare parts. Like any device, the dishwasher has its own shelf life, and old models become more vulnerable every year due to wear and tear. In this case, it is better to entrust the repair to a professional. But first, you should consider what will be more profitable: repair an existing machine or purchase a new unit.

The average service life of dishwashers is 5 years.

If the machine was bought recently, but still refuses to work, then you need to figure out the reasons. Most likely, one of the following troubles takes place.

  1. Manufacturing defect. This also includes poor-quality assembly. It is likely that the machine initially functioned incorrectly, especially if the model is cheap and was produced by a little-known brand.
  2. Clogged filter. If the owners "sin" by loading too dirty dishes into the chamber, then it is worth waiting for the consequences in the form of an inferior discharge. The remnants of food, washed off the plates, settle in the "trash" and cause the system block.
  3. Malfunctions with electricity. The whole house may be de-energized, a power outlet malfunctioning, or a power cord interrupted.
  4. Incorrect installation. When the newly installed models refuse to work, it can be assumed that the connection to the communications did not follow the rules. For example, often the inlet hose is poorly fixed on the water supply, and the drain hose is so long that it interferes with a full drain.
  5. Poor detergent. Savings on tablets and gels often lead to poor dishwasher performance.
  6. Loose door. The mechanism is similar to washing machines: until the door lock is activated and the tightness is not fixed, the system will not start a washing cycle. More often, the owner himself forgot to press the hatch to the hull. But a factory defect is also possible when, due to a manufacturer’s defect, the sash sags and does not close until the end.
  7. Incorrect loading of dishes. Having dirty dishes after a two-hour cycle, you can suspect a dishwasher breakdown. But first, check to see if the plates loaded correctly in the camera. Remember that according to the instructions, the upper shelves are designed for small utensils, cups, saucers, tureens, and on the bottom they are folded with dimensional pans or pans. We pay special attention to glasses and cups, which should always stand upside down.

But it is possible that the dishwasher gave a system failure and requires a more expensive and professional replacement of the control board or motor. Therefore, we first establish the source of the malfunction. Each problem has its own “symptoms” that make it easy to calculate how serious the problem is.

Unable to start washing

The most common situation is when the owner of the dishwasher turned on the machine, the lights blinked, the sound of water was heard, the walls of the case were heated, and the cycle did not start. That is, the system is ready to start the wash, but something is blocking the start. This "something" can be the dust filter and nozzles

  • Filter clogged. The trash filter is located at the very bottom of the working chamber of the dishwasher. First of all, we check it: we carefully unscrew it, remove it, clean it, rinse it and install it back.
  • Clogged nozzles. Sprinklers are also easily clogged, because of which the water does not start to “work” and the machine does not start the program.The problem is solved quickly: take a fine toothpick and clean the holes on the nozzles with precision. An obvious "symptom" of this problem is not washable pans, as low pressure does not allow a quality wash.
  • Circular pump failure. Another reason for the water not entering the chamber lies in the broken pump. It will be more difficult to do it yourself here, since it is necessary to replace the spare part with a new one. To do this, find the part in the lower part of the case, unscrew all the tubes and clamps, dismantle the faulty pump and install a workable one.

If, after water intake, the noise characteristic of the start of the cycle is not heard, then the circular pump is out of order.

Another obstacle to the cycle stopper at the very beginning is damage to the electric motor or its winding. To confirm or refute the assumption, it is necessary to ring the engine with a multimeter. If there is an interturn circuit or an open circuit, you will have to change the engine or contact an experienced master.

Excess water inside

A common reason why the machine does not work is the presence of excess water in the chamber. The picture is as follows: auto-dialing is already completed, but instead of starting the cycle, the dishwasher does not stop. Most likely, the level sensor has broken.

The level sensor controls the flow of water, and if there are problems with under- or busting, it must be changed. To do this, we are looking for a device in the lower part of the case, after turning the machine over to the floor. Next, dismantle the malfunctioning device and install a working one.

Often the situation does not stop even after disconnecting the machine from the mains - the unit still continues to be "powered" from the water supply. Then the electromagnetic valve, which is responsible for a timely stop, is “to blame”. The device is located at the junction of the inlet hose and inlet. To make a replacement, it is enough to disconnect the machine from communications, remove the broken one and mount a new part.

Incorrect water temperature

Another failure that prevents the dishwasher from fulfilling its duty is problems with heating the water. Two options are possible: weak heating or, on the contrary, excessive operation of the heating element. In the latter case, the problem is a faulty temperature sensor. If there is insufficient heat, check:PMM thermostat is out of order

  • thermostat;
  • water pressure in the system;
  • heating element integrity.

Diagnosis is easy without specialists. It is necessary to check possible reasons one by one, and finally “ring” the heater with a multimeter.

The machine is full of dirty water

The presence of a large amount of dirty water in the dishwasher clearly indicates the problem. The situation is clear: the drain does not function properly, because of which the spent liquid does not leave the chamber, but remains inside. The problem is resolved quite simply.

  1. We diagnose the drain pump. First we clear the debris and measure the number of Ohms in the winding. Often the drain is blocked by reduced pressure.
  2. If the pump does not fail, pay attention to the drain hose and siphon. The resulting blockage prevents the discharge of waste water. Therefore, disconnect the components and rinse thoroughly under the tap.the dishwasher is full of dirty water

In some cases, repairs are not needed at all. When the hose is raised above the level specified in the factory instructions, the dishwasher cannot drain the water, as there is not enough pressure and pressure. Sometimes weak mounts or crushing of the pipes fail.

When touched, shocked

If the dishwasher clearly bears an electric shock - when touched it feels tingling or a real blow, then the scheme of action is different. No need to think about what to do - immediately disconnect the machine from the mains. Next, we deal with the heating element, since in 100% of cases, a short circuit is provoked by a punched heater. There are several reasons:

  • too hard water;
  • broken heater start relay;
  • manufacturing defects.

Using a dishwasher that is shocking is strictly prohibited - it is life threatening!

As soon as the unit is disconnected from the network, we get the heater and inspect it. If there are cracks, chips or other defects on the surface, the element will have to be replaced. It is strongly discouraged to postpone repairs; prompt diagnostics and replacement are required.

Washes without a remedy

One of the most frivolous excitement is an incompletely dissolved detergent. This is a consequence of clogged nozzles or insufficient pressure in the hoses, since water does not reach the container with the powder filled up. The solution will be the removal and cleaning of the sprinklers.

To properly clean the nozzles, soak the parts for 30-40 minutes in a standard soap solution.

Another cause of the malfunction is the inoperative dispenser mechanism. The valve does not start water intake in time, and the tablet does not have time to completely dissolve. Therefore, the device should be adjusted or replaced with a new one.tablet did not dissolve in PMM

No power

Often, users are faced with the fact that when you press the Start button, nothing happens. That is, it is not possible to turn on equipment already filled with utensils. There are several points why this happens:

  • the power outlet does not work;
  • door locks do not work;
  • the door is not tightly closed;
  • the network key “dropped out”;
  • the surge protector has broken.

Determine the root cause will help a consistent check with a multimeter. Excluding serviceable chain links, it is easy to get to the source of the malfunction. Another thing is if the equipment does not end the cycle and does not respond to switching the washing mode. Then check the control board and gear selector. It’s not worth experimenting with the latest details - it’s more reliable to immediately contact professionals.

Body is flowing

Among the possible malfunctions of the dishwashers are leaks. But this does not mean that water will begin to run out from under the case - the machine will “tell” about the breakdown by the sudden end of the cycle and ignoring the commands given by the user. The display shows the corresponding error code.

Restarting will not fix the situation. The equipment will still stop in emergency mode. The explanation is simple - due to leakage, the protection of the Aquastop system is triggered. So, in the pan of the dishwasher a special float is installed. When water enters the bottom, it pops up and when a certain level is reached, it provokes a contact closure. An alarm signal is sent to the control board, and the unit stops to prevent flooding and current leakage. To continue washing, you will have to identify the root cause of the accident.leaking

  • Instability of the dishwasher. When the machine is not installed in level and not on a flat surface, an imbalance occurs. As a result, water is poured over the edge of the tank.
  • Improper use of detergents. First, users choose the wrong powders for dishwashers. Secondly, often people exceed the recommended dose, which increases foaming and leads to leakage.
  • Crowded machine. It is logical that the excessive flow of water into the unit will necessarily end with a leak. Therefore, it is important to respond to a faulty level sensor in a timely manner.
  • Camera leakage. The weak point of the dishwasher is the sealing gum. If the cuff is damaged, water will leak out: condensation will appear on the floor or bottom of the countertop. Another “symptom” will be the steam that appears during the operation of the machine. The defect is eliminated by replacing the seal or adjusting the door.
  • Erroneous operation of the float. It is possible that leakage protection gives a false signal. It is enough to check the presence of water on the pan. If possible, then try to lower the sensor with your own hands, loosening the return spring. Otherwise, we change the device.

Sometimes local leaks occur due to rupture of the hose or pipe.Therefore, it is recommended to verify the tightness of all components of the machine. We remove the back panel and check the elements for “dryness”.

Knowing why the dishwasher refuses to work, you can quickly return it to “life” without any extra expenses. The main thing is to remember safety precautions and strictly follow the instructions.
