What can be washed in the dishwasher?

dishes for dishwashersThe dishwasher greatly facilitates the life of housewives who like to cook and meet guests, because all the unpleasant work associated with washing dishes is trusted in technology. However, not all can be washed in a dishwasher. There are objects and materials that can not be washed categorically in the dishwasher, but at the same time it must be understood that the dishwasher is useful not only for washing dishes. We will talk about this and much more in the framework of this story.

Materials incompatible with the dishwasher

People are different, some newly made owners of the dishwasher, not afraid of experiments, immediately begin to shove various objects, knives, toys, baby bottles into it, others are afraid to turn it on again. The dishwasher, like any other equipment, must be used wisely, having previously studied the list of materials that can not be put in the dishwasher. And you don’t need to be afraid of anything, because you are buying equipment not for beauty, but for it to work, saving your time and effort. So, materials that should not be put in the dishwasher.

  • Cast iron. Cast iron pans or, for example, a cauldron can not be put in the dishwasher. And the point is not that a cauldron or pans are dimensional objects and it is difficult to cram them into a dishwasher. Cast iron will begin to rust due to exposure to hot water and detergents. Perhaps this will not happen immediately, but after 3-4 washes, the cauldron and pans will be covered with a rusty coating. It is better to wash the cauldron and pans with your hands, and use a sponge with an abrasive surface to dry dried fat and soot better. Some generally prefer to clean the cauldron with sand.

Note! If you absolutely do not want to wash the cauldron and pans with your hands, then purchase ceramic cast-iron cookware and wash it automatically without restrictions.

  • Enamelled metal. Enameled plates, bowls, baking sheets are not suitable for the dishwasher, because after 2-3 sinks the enamel will begin to partially peel off, and the dishes can be discarded.
  • Copper. Dishes and items made from copper should not be put in the dishwasher because they quickly darken, and in some cases lose their shape.
  • Silver. Silver dishes and items coated with silver should not be washed in a dishwasher. Silver after the first wash will become noticeably darker, and if you wash the silver together with stainless steel, then it will completely lose its appearance. If you have already washed silver in a dishwasher, then do not be discouraged, you can return it to its former shine.

  • Crystal. Any crystal, even thin, even thick, is better not to wash in a dishwasher, since solid particles of food can scratch its surface. And from hot water, the crystal will definitely crack. True, in modern dishwashers there is a special “crystal” mode, but it is better to leave especially expensive items for manual washing. If the crystal must be washed in a dishwasher, then set the lowest temperature, set it separately from other dishes. Keep a minimum of detergents, but do not forget to rinse, so that the crystal shines better.
  • Aluminum. If you push a meat grinder or aluminum baking sheet into the dishwasher, you will get a dark object covered with a layer of plaque at the exit. Then it is very difficult to clean the meat grinder, baking sheet and other dishes.
  • Brass. Do not wash brass dishes and other objects in the dishwasher, since after the first wash they darken and lose their appearance.wooden dishes
  • Tree. Wooden objects from their long stay in hot water lose their shape and need to be washed by hand.

In addition to materials, there is also an impressive list of items that are best not to get into the dishwasher. I mean crocuses, vacuum dishes, knives and more, more about what dishes cannot be washed in the dishwasher read in the article of the same name. Separately, it should be said that sharpened knives cannot be washed in a dishwasher. Knives from any material under the influence of high temperature quickly become dull, ceramic knives and meat-grinder knives are no exception.

Items Conditionally Recommended for Dishwashers

In order to better build our story, we decided to divide all the items that could potentially be put in the dishwasher into two groups. For those that are good to wash in automatic mode and those that are in automatic mode, it is conditionally possible to wash. Let's start with items that can only be washed under certain conditions.

Cupronickel. Cupronickel is an alloy of several metals that looks very similar to silver. Cupronickel can be washed in a dishwasher, but only separately from other metal objects. If you put knives in the dishwasher, which are based on cupronickel and a few stainless steel spoons, they can react and darken. Dishes based on cupronickel should not be washed in a dishwasher if decorative elements made of other materials are pasted or welded on it. In this case, cupronickel will react with this material.

Note! Cupronickel withstands exposure to hot water, but it may inadequately respond to detergents. When loading cupronickel in a dishwasher, figure out which washing tablet can be put and which cannot.

Thermos. Under normal conditions, washing the thermos in the dishwasher is not recommended, since hot water with detergents damages the lid and surface of the bulb and the thermos deteriorates. However, if you set the washing temperature lower and pour a minimum of detergents, then the thermos will withstand it. A thermos specially adapted for automatic washing has now appeared on the market. The manufacturer directly indicates the packaging. Such a thermos has no foam insulation and its flask, as a rule, is made of stainless steel. Buy this thermos and then wash it in a dishwasher to your health.

Kids toys. Toys made entirely of plastic can be put in the dishwasher and washed perfectly, but there are limitations. Do not put toys with glued parts in the dishwasher, such parts will quickly peel off and the toy will deteriorate. Also, do not put plastic dolls with hair (such as "Barbie"), as the dishwasher will ruin their hair forever.

Porcelain. As a general rule, china cannot be washed in a dishwasher, especially when it comes to valuable products from China and Japan. But if you follow certain rules, then in the most extreme case, porcelain can still be washed. What should be done?

  1. set the washing temperature not higher than 55 0C, hotter water will destroy china;
  2. do not sprinkle any detergents; otherwise, porcelain may react with any chemicals;
  3. Do not put porcelain in the lower basket of the dishwasher, only in the upper;
  4. wash porcelain separately from other dishes.

Items recommended for automatic washing

Now let's talk about the items that are dishwasher safe and convenient. They are much more than it might seem at first glance. In the first place, of course, dishes, except for those made of the above materials. The continuation of the list is much more unusual.

  • Baseball cap. If you stuff this headdress into a washing machine, then it will surely lose your appearance after 1-3 washings. In the dishwasher, baseball caps are washed very high quality and do not deteriorate. Just keep in mind that washing-up powder is not suitable for baseball caps.
  • Slates, flip flops, galoshes, rubber boots. They are washed perfectly, but you should not forget that before laying in the dishwasher, rubber shoes need to be cleaned from large pieces of dirt.
  • Instruments.You can also wash a dirty tool in the machine. Just do not put a sharp tool on the automatic washing: chisels, knives, planers - will certainly become dull.
  • Plastic plugs for ventilation openings, sockets, switches. These plastic elements can be washed perfectly. You will be surprised how old yellowed switches turn white from such a wash.can be washed in the dishwasher
  • Plastic combs, massage combs, etc. Well washed in the dishwasher if they do not have wooden elements.
  • Sport equipment. This includes helmets, knee pads, mouth guards, bowling balls, and more.
  • Chandelier lights fixtures and sconces. Before loading the lampshades in the dishwasher, you need to make sure that it is not crystal. Glass and plastic shades can be washed without restrictions.
  • Strong fruits and root crops. Fruits and root vegetables before laying in the dishwasher are cleaned of large pieces of dirt, and then loaded into a basket. Before washing root vegetables and fruits, you need to wash and rub the cuvette for detergents so that the remnants of the powder and rinse do not get on food.

Note! In a dishwasher with a load of 10 sets, you can perfectly wash 6 kg of potatoes, 2 kg of carrots, and for 2 kg of fruit, the place remains, it is very convenient when you need to cook a lot of food at a time.

Summing up, we note that we decided that in the dishwasher, in addition to the dishes, you can wash a lot of things. In this list, a thermos, cupronickel, porcelain, toys, tools and even dense vegetables and fruits. Nevertheless, there are limitations and there are many of them. For example, you can not put knives, crystal, wooden objects, objects made of brass, cast iron, silver and other things. In order not to accidentally spoil things in the dishwasher, study this article - it will come in handy!
