Is it possible to open the dishwasher during operation?

open the PMM during washingA modern dishwasher, unlike its predecessors, allows the user a lot. For example, according to manufacturers, many dishwashers can be reloaded even after the wash has started by opening the door. But it’s still scary to do this, in case the water starts pouring straight onto the floor. We decided to find out whether it is possible to open the dishwasher while washing dishes or is this just an “advertising canard”? Let's figure it out.

If you open the door?

In a normal situation, after collecting all the dirty dishes and placing them in the baskets, the user closes the door and activates the washing program. After this, a long process begins, as a result of which, instead of a mountain of dirty dishes, you get a mountain of clean ones. But things don't always go smoothly. Suppose we forgot a few dirty glasses that were “hidden” somewhere behind the kettle or coffee maker. You can, of course, not bother and wash them by hand, but if you are not looking for an easy way, open the dishwasher door.

  1. If you simply pull the door handle, it may not open at all, since some models are equipped with a locking device. To unlock it, you will first have to stop the washing process and then open the door.
  2. The door may open, but thanks to a special sensor, the program will be instantly reset and the washing will stop.
  3. The model can be equipped with a special button for emergency stop of the dishwasher.

By pressing this button, the user can safely open the door within 3 seconds and add additional dirty items, but this “trick” will happen in the first 35-40 minutes after the start of washing.

  1. The machine may allow the door to be opened, but the special sensor that resets the program will not work, and then a flood may occur. In this case, we can talk about a malfunction, although this does not happen often.

The latter situation can create problems for the user. Operating sprinklers will partially splash water outside the wash chamber through the open door and flood the floor in front of the dishwasher. This cannot be allowed. Let's try to figure out what's what.

If the lock didn't workPMM during operation

What happens if a running dishwasher allows the door to open during operation, but the special sensor does not work and does not stop the process? Hot splashes will fly directly onto the user and onto the floor in front of the dishwasher. This cannot be allowed. At such a moment, you will regret that this dishwasher model does not have a door locking device.

On these undoubtedly less safe dishwashers, the door lock device replaces the emergency shutdown sensor. But even if the machine has a locking device, it does not guarantee complete safety, especially in the event of a breakdown and then it will be necessary dishwasher lock repair. So, no matter how you look at it, even in the first case, at least in the second, you will have to carry out diagnostics. It’s better to have a master do all the work, so that the next time you get ready to open the door out of habit, the machine won’t give you a “hot shower.”

Typically the kill switch fails during a power surge or major internal failure.. The wiring or contacts that supply power to the sensor may be damaged. In this case, in half of the cases the self-diagnosis system is triggered. It blocks the operation of all systems in a timely manner.

Either way, don't be afraid to try opening the dishwasher door. In 99% of cases nothing critical will happen. You, as a user, need to fully understand how your “home assistant” works, and when you understand this, you will be able to use it much more confidently and efficiently. Good luck!

A far-fetched “problem” about a hot “shower” from the dishwasher when the door is opened while the machine is running! There is no need to “worry” about your clients more than they worry about themselves :) I have an Electrolux PMM - open the door at any time if you suddenly find an extra charge. dirty dishes. Either through the Start button (aka Pause), or without it (well, it splashes a little) - incredibly convenient! It’s been working for the sixth year, (ugh!) no “smells”, no other problems. My sister’s BOSCH door is locked during washing. And I’ve already been in repairs twice...

Bosch has been working for me for six years now. And the dishes can be reloaded at any time. So no need to shaggy grandma.
