Dishwasher power in kW

dishwasher powerEvery year, electricity tariffs in Europe and in Russia are rising, and so are the bills, so most people are interested in saving at least a little bit, but how to do it? The problem is that the number of energy consumers in our apartments and houses is growing steadily: a TV, a vacuum cleaner, a crock-pot, a water heater, a split system, and now also a dishwasher, consumption is growing, and it’s more difficult to save. But it turns out that you can save money by starting with a dishwasher, first you need to calculate its power and perform other manipulations, which we will talk about in the article.

Why are some dishwashers economical and others not?

The efficiency of the dishwasher depends on the energy efficiency of its units and the technical solutions that its manufacturer applied in a particular model. A lot of electricity goes to the operation of the heating element, circulation pump and pump. In the first place, of course, a heating element that heats the water, in second place a heating element that provides drying work. In dishwashers without hot drying, energy consumption is significantly lower.

Important! Convection-drying dishwashers do not have a second heating element and a fan, which means that it consumes about 40% less energy.

dishwasher powerThe power consumption largely depends on the capacity of the tank with water and the temperature of the water itself. Accordingly, the smaller the tank capacity and the less the dishwasher spends water for one washing cycle, the lower the total energy consumption. Reduce energy costs in the dishwasher and various original technical solutions. In particular, dishwashers manufactured under the Bosch brand have recently begun to put heat exchangers. They allow you to save thermal energy, which means that the machine has to spend less electricity.

Before buying a new dishwasher, it's a good idea to know in advance how energy efficient it is. This is not difficult to do, just pay attention to the characteristics of a particular model. There is the line “energy class”, followed by the letter of the Latin alphabet.

  • The letter A means that the dishwasher consumes 0.7-1.07 kW.
  • The letter B means that the dishwasher consumes 1.08-1.1 kW.
  • The letter C means that the machine consumes up to 1.5 kW.
  • The letter D and E is less common in modern machines and means that they take up to 2 kW.
  • And, finally, the machines with energy classes F and G are considered the most economical; they charge 2.5 and 2.7 kW.

If the manufacturer managed to ensure that his car consumes less than 0.7 kW of energy, then in its characteristics, he adds the “+” sign to the letter A, or two or three pluses if the model’s energy efficiency is significant.

How to make your dishwasher more economical?

dishwasher powerIn order for the dishwasher to be the most efficient and spend a minimum of watts of energy, it is necessary to take care of this issue before buying an “iron assistant”. This does not mean that when buying you need to look for a model that will benefit every W. It is enough to listen to the following recommendations of specialists.

  1. Wash dishes with a delayed start. Proceed as follows, start the washing program, and when the machine pumps water into the tanks, stop the program and set a delay for the start so that the machine runs the washing program at night. This will save energy, since on the one hand at night the tariff for it is lower, and on the other, in a few hours the water in the tanks will warm up to room temperature and less energy will be needed to heat it.
  2. Do not leave dirty dishes. If the remnants of food dry to the dishes, then it will take more energy to wash it.You will need hotter water, double rinsing, well, in general, the idea is clear!
  3. Get dishwasher models with a built-in heat exchanger. You can read about the features of this element in the article, what is a heat exchanger in a dishwasher.
  4. Use suitable washing modes. If the dishes are not very dirty, then it can be washed with water at a temperature of 30 0C, on the shortest time program. Think for yourself how much energy you can save.

Note! In some models of dishwashers, there are very profitable modes with respect to energy consumption, for example, the “quick wash” mode, which carries out the entire cycle of washing dishes in just 30 minutes.

  1. Do not start the dishwasher if you have accumulated, for example, only 3 plates and two glasses, accumulate the dishes by soaking them in some large container, and then put them all in the dishwasher and wash them at a time.
  2. If your machine model allows you to carry out half-load, then use this function actively, it is very convenient and can really save hundreds of watts of energy, water and detergents.
  3. Put dishes in the washing baskets correctly. In this case, you do not have to wash it, which means you will save time, hundreds of watts of energy, water and detergents.
  4. Descale the dishwasher in a timely manner. A scum coated ten uses much more energy than a clean heating element.

Examples of economical dishwashers

High power is a big minus of the dishwasher. High power, unlike other electrical appliances, does not give the dishwasher any advantages, perhaps only some disadvantages, because considerable power means a large consumption of electricity. In this case, the question of how much energy the machine consumes and how this figure can be minimized as much as possible comes to the fore, of course, without prejudice to the quality of washing and drying dishes.

We talked about how much electricity a dishwasher spends and how to reduce this expense, now we will discuss another question, which models of dishwashers are the most or some of the most energy efficient. We will publish a short review on this subject.

  • Zigmund & Shtain DW6009X full-size fully integrated dishwasher. Holds 15 sets of utensils, has a turbo dryer, while its average energy consumption is about 0.5 kW - A ++ value is close to the record.
  • Galloped over the previous model of the dishwasher Flavia BI60 KAMAYA. It consumes about 0.4 kW, which corresponds to the designation A +++. At the same time, her tank holds 14 sets of utensils, and washing modes are striking in variety.
  • Completes the top three most energy-efficient dishwashers "iron assistant" from Germany TEKA DW8 41FI. It consumes about 0.5 kW, which corresponds to the value of A ++. This model is interesting in that it is completely energy efficient, that is, it consumes not only a small amount of energy, but also water and detergents, which makes it one of the most economical dishwashers in Europe.

Note! TEKA DW8 41FI consumes about 8-9 liters of water per wash, using half the amount of detergent and salt.

In conclusion, we note how much energy a dishwasher consumes? The performance of different models is different. To find out how much a particular model consumes, you need to look at its characteristics, and more precisely on that line in which its energy consumption class is indicated. How much is the numbers can be found in the decoding of the notation. Remember one thing - the less powerful your dishwasher, the less energy it consumes.
