What is the power of the electric motor of the washing machine?

The main characteristics of this part are power and revolutions per minute. When buying a machine automatic machine, we rarely pay attention to these parameters. Or maybe in vain? That's why we decided to talk about how much power the engine has in the washing machine, and what it affects.

Engine types

The conversion of electrical energy into mechanical energy (rotation of the drum) in the washing machine occurs due to the engine. Engineers have developed three types of engines that are used in automatic typewriters:

  • asynchronous motor;
  • commutator motor;
  • brushless motor.

Asynchronous motors can be two-phase or three-phase. In modern washing machines manufactured after 2000, two-phase motors are not used. The power of such engines is 180-360 watts, the number of revolutions is not large and does not exceed 2800 revolutions per minute during the spin cycle, during washing, the revolutions are about 300. In machines with such an engine, the spin cycle is only 400-600 revolutions per minute, in rare cases 800- 1000.

Asynchronous motors, commutator motors, which are able to work both from alternating and direct currents, have practically replaced. They are smaller in size and have infinitely variable speed control via electronics. The main disadvantage is its device, which includes the presence of brushes, they are worn out and become unusable. To restore engine performance, they must be periodically changed. The power of the collector motors is 380 - 800 W, while the rotational speed of the armature varies from 11500 to 15000 rpm.

Note! The power consumption of the engine during washing and spinning is different. The engine manufacturer writes this indicator only on the engine itself, you will not find these numbers in the instructions for the car.

engine types

A brushless or inverter motor first appeared in washing machines in 2005, LG was the first to use it. Its difference lies in the fact that it is directly connected to the drum without a belt drive. It is more compact than engines of two other types, simple in design, has the highest coefficient of performance (COP). By its power, the inverter motor is not inferior to the previous ones and is capable of spinning the drum during the spin cycle up to 1600 2000 rpm.

Power versus power

The energy consumption as a whole depends on the power of the washing machine’s electric motor, in other words, how many kilowatts of energy the machine winds per hour. This is what interests the consumer most often, and not the power of the machine’s motor machine. The energy consumption of the machine consists of:machine engine machine

  • engine power consumption, during the course of the entire washing, it changes, when spinning more, when washing and rinsing less;
  • power of the heating element, which averages from 1.7 to 2.9 kW. Moreover, the higher the temperature of water heating, the greater the power consumption;
  • the power of the pump, which is 24-40 watts, this is quite enough for pumping water;
  • total power consumed by bulbs, control module, sensors, etc. it is approximately 5-10 watts.

The power consumption of the washing machine is calculated for the "Cotton" mode, in which the water is heated to 600C, and the machine loads as much as possible. According to this indicator, the washing machine is assigned energy efficiency classdenoted by the Latin letter.

The maximum number of revolutions during the spin cycle also depends on the engine power of the washing machine.

The more powerful the engine, the more revolutions the drum will make by squeezing the laundry. This indicator is reflected in washing machine spin class. Automatic machines rotating at a speed of 1600 rpm belong to class A. But it’s not at all necessary to buy such a machine, because even with a spin of 800-1000 rpm, the laundry will be wrung out well, without the risk of being torn.

Power of motors of different models of washing machines

Different engines are installed on washing machines of different brands, so they have different technical characteristics and different costs. Here are some examples.

  • HXGP2I Welling Electronic Control Motor - engine for a Samsung washing machine, power 300 watts.

So, automatic washing machines manufactured in the 2000s have a commutator or brushless motor. Their power consumption may be different, but for the consumer it does not matter much. It is more important to know how energy-efficient the machine is, and this can be determined by the energy consumption class that modern machines A or A + have.
