The brush indicator in the Bosch dishwasher flashes
Modern dishwashers have a lot of different indicators, which owners pay little attention to, but in vain. The indicator can indicate a particular problem in time, especially if it is not just lit, but blinking. Suppose the brush at the Bosch dishwasher flashes. What does this mean? Maybe this is a breakdown, a small glitch, or even a meaningless behavior of the "home assistant"? Now we will try to figure it out.
Lit or blinking: what's the difference?
The burning indicator, indicated by the brush pattern, usually does not cause concern for anyone, especially since the Bosch dishwasher most often works correctly. Under normal conditions, this indicator notifies the user that the washing process is in progress, and as soon as the dishwashing ends, it goes out. On some Bosch dishwasher models, this indicator lights up at the beginning of the sink, and then goes out after a while. This is the normal "behavior" of the machine, you can not worry.
The indicator with the image of the brush most often lights up after the start of the washing program and goes out after the washing phase has ended and the drying phase of the dishes has begun.
This indicator can behave completely differently. It may suddenly start blinking, while the operation of the machine most often stops and freezes until a restart. What is the reason for the blinking of the indicator with the image of the brush? In some cases, a system failure is to blame. It cannot be eliminated by simply turning off the dishwasher. You need to do the following:
- as soon as the indicator flashes, you need to press the program start button and hold it for 3 seconds;
- turn off the dishwasher (for fidelity, you can pull out the plug of the power cord, completely de-energizing it);
- wait 15 seconds, and then turn on the dishwasher again;
- set the desired washing program and start it.
If the indicator starts flashing again, do not torment the dishwasher. It seems that the problem here is not a system failure, something more serious has happened.
Breakdown search
If the indicator on the Bosch dishwasher is on, and a brush is drawn to the right of it, this can be said a normal situation. But if this same indicator blinks, there’s no time for jokes, we can talk about a serious breakdown. First you need to make sure that this is not a system failure, having completed a number of simple steps described above. Next, you need to check the Aquastop sensor, which is located in a pallet under the machine body. Such a sensor is in Bosch machines with full and partial protection against leaks and we need to make sure that it does not stop the machine.
- Let's try to tilt the machine, after laying a rag next to it.
- If there is water in the pan, it will spill out.
- If you managed to drain the water from the sump, you can restart the machine again and make sure that the indicator does not blink for a while.
Further 2 situations are possible. In the first case, the water will again be typed into the pan and Aquastop will work again. In this case, you need to look for leaks in the housing. In the second case, the breakdown may not be repeated if the water got into the pan by accident. One way or another, it will be possible to establish that the cause of the problem was a leak.
If there is no water in the pan, then perhaps the Aquastop sensor is simply “stuck”. You have to turn off the dishwasher, remove the tray and check the position of the float. Unfortunately, this problem is quite common, especially if the dishwasher was moved or moved.
Notice when the indicator starts flashing. If the flashing starts when the machine tries to draw water, it may be due to a malfunction of the inlet valve or the tap for supplying water to the dishwasher is simply turned off. The latter may seem commonplace, however, it occurs all the time. Do the following:
- check the water supply to the machine;
- listen again, as the machine draws water (for this you have to restart the dishwasher again);
- if there is a slight click, then a buzz, but no water enters the machine, therefore, the intake valve or its relay is faulty.
In more rare cases, a malfunction occurs in the control module, which cannot issue a command to open / close the intake valve.
The indicator may start flashing after water has been added to the tank, approximately 10 minutes after the start of washing. At the same time, the “symptoms” are the same: first the “Brush” indicator flashes, then the dishwasher is completely stopped. With this “behavior” of the machine, you should pay attention to the trash filter and sprinklers.
It is necessary to remove and rinse the filter, disconnect and check the sprayers, in the openings of which dirt may accumulate. Moreover, the mud can fill up so tightly that even water cannot seep through the clogs, much less go under pressure. This often happens with fans to dohousehold detergent for dishes based on mustard. The mustard mass, hardening becomes dense and clogs all the smallest holes in the machine, paralyzing its work.
The control board is last checked, but we would strongly not recommend that you do it yourself. It is better to invite a master who will quickly and expertly conduct diagnostics. We do not recommend changing the control module independently without making sure that it is broken. No need to aggravate the problem.

The troubleshooting algorithm will depend on the nature of the breakdown you have found, this is obvious. For our part, we will advise you not to get involved in breakdowns that require serious and qualified repair. In this case, "self-activity" can greatly harm, so if you need to repair the control module or inlet valve, invite the master. In other cases, you can do it yourself. Finding leaks and eliminating sticking of the Aquastop sensor requires disassembling the dishwasher.
- To gain access to the pan, the dishwasher must be turned off, pulled out and tilted to drain the water.
- We place the car conveniently so that you can freely walk around it.
- We unscrew the front panel, which is located directly under the door and remove the plastic protection of the door hinges. From the same loops you need to remove the hooks of the closers.
- Inside the edges of the door we unscrew the screws that hold the front panel. After that, the front panel can be removed by sliding it a little down.
- Under the closed door you will see a thin metal plate, which is called the inner plate. It needs to be removed.
- Next, unscrew the screws holding the base of the dishwasher.
The side screws are located at the corners of the main body at the top of the pallet.
- We remove the lower basket and disconnect the sprayer, which is located at the bottom of the washing chamber.
- We unscrew the trash filter and remove the mesh. Under the net we will see the fixing screws that also hold the base of the dishwasher, remove them.
- We lay a large rag on the back of the case, after which we carefully place the dishwasher “on the back”.
- Disconnect the inlet hose, the chip with wires and the pump, which is located on the side of the circulation unit, from the pan.
- Gently pull the tray onto itself and disconnect it from the body.
Having disassembled it yourself, you can easily determine the place of leakage. In addition, you can easily eliminate sticking of the Aquastop sensor by adjusting the float or simply completely de-energizing this element. We do not advise you to do the latter, since with this you leave the dishwasher without protection. As soon as the breakdown is fixed, you can safely reassemble the machine in the reverse order.
Some of our readers ask a question: if the brush icon blinks, what does this mean? It will not be possible to answer it in a nutshell, so we decided to give a detailed explanation, which required the creation of an entire publication. We hope we have helped to deal with the problem. Good luck
