Cuff for draining the washing machine

Cuff for draining the washing machineIt happens that the organization of the discharge of waste water from the tank of an automatic machine becomes a real problem for users of equipment. In cases where the washer is installed at some distance from the main house communications, and besides, it is impossible to quickly remake them, the owners have no choice but to look for non-standard ways to include a drain hose in the sewage system. One of the unusual options is to fix the hose in the tee, through a special cuff for draining the washing machine. Let’s figure out how to connect according to this principle.

How is the connection made?

If your apartment is equipped with a modern metal-plastic sewer with a pipe diameter of 40 or 50 mm, then there will be no problems with connecting the drain hose. It is necessary to purchase the appropriate tee at a specialized outlet, having an angle of inclination of 45 ° (if it is supposed to be installed under the sink), and a seal for it, with an inner ring diameter of 25 mm.

When installing the cuff in the acquired tee, it is important to observe one rule. Do not remove the sealing ring from the pipe cavity, it will serve as a guarantee of reliability and tightness of the created connection. If the cuff cannot be inserted, try heating it in hot water for 2–3 minutes. Having been exposed to heat, the gum will become softer and more flexible, so it will freely fall into place.

After installing the cuff from the tee, only a thin, bounding edge of the seal should be visible.

Got a custom tee

There are times that a tee having a diameter of 50 mm simply does not fit onto a modern sewer pipe of a similar size. A couple of extra millimeters interfere with the free installation of the tee, because of which it does not stand on the seat. This is due to the limitation of the release of structural elements, the fact that in the recent past at the production there were some other standards that differed from the current ones. The standard cuff, therefore, is also not suitable for organizing this connection.

If you are in this situation, the problem can be solved in two ways:tee to connect the machine to the sewer

  • After removing the sealing ring, fill its seat with waterproof sealant, and also process part of the tee surface that enters the sewer network. So the item will calmly enter the sewage system for a couple of centimeters.
  • Having acquired a tee with a diameter of 40 mm and a transitional cuff having dimensions of 50 * 40 mm. Docking of the branch and the pipe in this way will be very easy.

The first method is suitable in the case of vertical fastening of the branch. The tee will stand up very tightly, and together with the sealant, it will never let water through. If the design has a horizontal arrangement, preference must be given to the second method.

In the vast majority of cases, the diameter of the corrugation connected to the sinks is not more than 40 mm. This suggests that the use of a tee of the appropriate size will in no way affect the ability of the pipe to pass water. When there is a bend with a diameter of 50 mm at the end of the corrugation, you can cut it with gentle movements. The bell is quite fragile, so do not press hard on the cutter, cutting is done in light circular motions.

What cuff to buy?

cuff for connecting the drain hoseWhen organizing a drain into the sewers independently, special attention should be paid to the purchase of the basic necessary elements. When purchasing a cuff, focus on its diameter. In 90% of cases, a rubber element of size 50 * 25 is needed (outer and inner diameters, respectively), but cuffs having an inner diameter of 32 mm can be found on the shelves. It is rather difficult to distinguish such a discrepancy to a non-professional, therefore it is necessary to inform the seller not only the value of the outer diameter, but also to clarify the internal dimensions.

We advise you not to succumb to the entreaties of managers who insist that a cuff with a diameter of 32 mm is ideal for fixing a drain hose to the sewer in it. It is not true. The drain pipe will enter into it very freely, which in the future may lead to its “departure” from the cuff. Therefore, to prevent an unpleasant situation, you should buy an elastic band right next to the hose - the tighter it enters the cuff, the more reliable and tight the organized connection will turn out.

Thus, it is quite simple to organize the discharge of waste water from the washing machine into the sewer pipe, using a special tee and cuff. It is important to choose all the necessary details correctly, to focus on the diameter of the components, then the work will go quickly and efficiently.
