DIY barbecue from a washing machine

barbecue from washing machineToday in the store you can buy a good factory grill quite inexpensively, but why do this if we have a barn full of suitable parts from which we can make an excellent device for free. It would be nice, for example, to make a grill from a washing machine drum. You can make such a homemade grill, without any special skills, in a couple of hours with your own hands, and even then waddle. Let's see how it's done.

Why a washing machine drum?

First of all, you need to think about what to make a homemade brazier from. It is necessary that the brazier be compact, roomy enough to smolder as many coals as possible in it and, of course, durable so that it lasts for more than one season. If you have a drum from an old washing machine, consider the problem solved, because the drum itself is an excellent brazier, and anyone can make a brazier out of it with their own hands.

The good thing about the drum is that it is made of high-quality stainless steel, which can withstand high temperatures perfectly. This steel is not subject to corrosion, which means that the grill does not have to be stored in a dry place; it can be placed right outside.

  1. There are many small holes in the walls of the washing machine drum through whichwashing machine drum blow through the air, fanning the coals. In such a roasting pan, even meat and vegetables are baked very quickly.
  2. The grill made from the drum and washing tank is light and durable; if necessary, it can be put away somewhere in the shed until the next season.In general, with such a device you can easily cook barbecue for decades, without fear that the walls or bottom of the roasting pan will burn out.
  3. Among other things, purchased collapsible barbecues are often made “from an axe.” The parts from which the roasting pan and legs are assembled have many sharp edges that cut your hands. Having bought a new grill, you have to take a file and grind off the sharp edges of the parts, making them safer. The drum of the washing machine does not have any sharp edges, the frying pan from it will be completely safe, and if you bring it to mind, it will be very good.

Parts and tools

The beauty is that in order to make a barbecue from parts of a washing machine, you don’t need any special materials. In principle, you can get by with just the drum of the washing machine, but then our barbecue will turn out to be too low, and it will be inconvenient to work with. We will make a high barbecue, on a leg, so we will need: the drum itself from the automatic washing machine and an old iron pipe.

When our craftsmen assembled a barbecue from an old washing machine, they did not find an iron pipe of a suitable length, but they did find an old unnecessary metal flower stand. It was perfect for these purposes, so it was decided to make the barbecue leg from this stand. In this case, you can also be creative and see what you have in your household that is suitable from which you can build a stand. The main thing is that the material of the stand is durable and non-flammable.

In addition to the tank and flower stand, we took 6 bolts with 10mm nuts and a metal corner 40 mm long 80 cm. In principle, you can take any corner. If you don't have 80 cm long trim, take a shorter trim.Ideally, you need two pieces 40 cm long. Now about the tools, we need:

  • Bulgarian;
  • drill;
  • flat file:
  • roulette;
  • hacksaw for metal;
  • marker;
  • pliers.

If you are a master at using an angle grinder, you can do without a hacksaw, the main thing is not to cut off excess from the drum or tank of the washing machine and not harm your own health. Use caution when working with such power tools.

Assembling the device

The preparation is over, it's time to make a grill with your own hands and finally fry the first batch of shish kebab. First, let's remake the drum with our own hands. We take a grinder and cut off the hatch hole, widening it and making it rectangular.

After working with the grinder, let’s take up the drill. Along the edges of the cut rectangular hole, drill 10 mm holes for the bolts. We drill similar holes in the corner, and then screw the corner to the tank as shown in the figure below.

Our grill is almost ready, in any case, we have already made a roasting pan with our own hands, all that remains is to make a stand. It's time to put that old flower stand to use. We place our roasting pan on the stand and screw it tightly with bolts.barbecue stand

There is no need to do anything else, because the fryer is firmly located on the stand. You can start burning the coals and then grill the kebab. The corners we screwed onto the drum will allow you to place skewers with pieces of meat more conveniently and at the same height. Rest assured that in this case they will be cooked equally well.

In addition to the drum, there are still quite a large number of parts left in the automatic washing machine that can be successfully used in the household. Mainly the engine.If the engine is working, then many useful things can be made from it. If you don't believe me, read the article sharpening machine from a washing machine engine, you will find a lot of useful information in it.

To summarize, we note that making a barbecue from parts of an automatic washing machine is very simple, you don’t even have to redo anything special. You just need to make a larger hole in the hatch area and screw on the corner. Good luck!
