Living in an apartment with a cramped kitchen and a small bathroom, you inevitably think about which washing machine to buy. Such a machine must not only fit in a limited space, but also perform all its functions efficiently. In this case, compact models of front-loading machines are a suitable option. What kind of washing machines are these, what are their features, what brands they come in - we’ll talk about that.

Dimensions

In most cases, sales consultants divide all washing machines into: full-size, narrow (super-narrow) and compact. Some sellers call it compact narrow car models, which in our opinion is not accurate. That is why it is necessary to immediately say which machines will be discussed in this article.

So, if a full-size washing machine is 80-85 cm in height, 55-60 cm in width, and 55-60 cm in depth, then compact models should be an order of magnitude smaller. This means that small washing machines have the following dimensions:

• height up to 79 cm;
• width up to 50 cm;
• depth up to 50 cm.

Important! To prevent the seller from deliberately selling you a narrow washing machine as a compact one, take a tape measure with you to the store and measure the dimensions of the equipment, this is how you will check whether it will suit you or not.

Advantages and disadvantages

The undeniable advantage of compact washing machines is their size. Thanks to this, such washing machines are installed not only in the kitchen, but also in the bathroom under the sink. Some people manage to place the machine in the toilet. This type of equipment can be easily hidden in a closet.

Compact washing machines consume less water and energy, which makes them economical.

However, such machines have more disadvantages than advantages; they are worth paying special attention to:

• firstly, the drum volume of such washing machines does not exceed 4.5 kg, which does not give you the opportunity to wash a large duvet or down jacket;
• secondly, the price for such machines is still high; for the same money you can buy a unit with better characteristics, only a full-size one;
• thirdly, the choice for compact cars is very limited; you still need to search to find what you need;
• fourthly, the quality of washing, spinning and other characteristics in these machines is questionable, and it is worth noting the difficulty of repairing them;
• fifthly, when installing and connecting this type of machine under a sink, a special siphon and sink are required, and these are additional costs.

Regular mini cars

Well, now let's see which manufacturers can boast of having compact washing machines. The leader in this regard is the Swiss company Eurosoba, which offers the following machine models:

• EuroSoba 600 is a small machine with a load of only 3 kg of dry laundry. Its exact dimensions (WxDxH) are 46x45x68 cm. It spends about 50 liters of water per wash cycle. Spins at 600 rpm.
• EuroSoba 1000 is another small-sized washing machine for 3 kg of laundry. Differs from the previous spin speed of 1000 rpm.
• EuroSoba 1100 - this model is designed for the same load as the two previous machine models, only it spins at 1100 rpm.

For your information! The tank of Swiss washing machines is made of stainless steel. Such cars are expensive, and therefore are almost not in demand among Russian consumers.

Compact washing machines are offered by such a well-known manufacturer as Electrolux, these are the models:

• Electrolux EWC 1150 - this machine is designed for a load of 3 kg. Its dimensions (WxDxH) are 50x52x67 cm. The laundry is spun at a speed of 1100 rpm. The downside is the lack of protection from children and from leaks.
• Electrolux EWC 1350 is a washing machine that washes no more than 3 kg of laundry. Has good protection. Spins laundry at 1300 rpm. Its dimensions (WxDxH) are 50x51x67 cm.

Italian manufacturers Zanussi offer a compact model Zanussi FCS 1020 C, it is not much different from competitors’ machines. Drum loading up to 3 kg, spin speed 1000 rpm. Its width is 50 cm, depth 52 cm, height 67 cm. But it costs much less than other representatives of this class.

Compact technology with drying

Some people are not only interested in small-sized washing machines, but in machines with a drying function. And here it must be said that the most compact units have a depth of 41 to 45 cm, a width of 50 to 60 cm and a height of 81 to 85 cm. These dimensions correspond to narrow washing machines.

Here are several models of small front-loading washing machines that have a drying function:

• Candy GVW 264 DC – machine with loading up to 6 kg and drying up to 4 kg. This is not only a compact model, but also the cheapest. With dimensions (WxDxH) of 60x44x85 cm, it copes with its tasks well. Has 12 washing modes.
• LG F-12U1HDM1N is a front-loading machine capable of washing 7 kg of dry laundry and drying 4 kg. There are 5 drying modes and 14 washing programs. In general, it’s a good washing machine that will cost about $500.
• Samsung WD806U2GAGD is a washer-dryer with a load capacity of up to 8 kg when washing and 4 kg when drying. The model can be considered compact, but its functionality is impressive. Economical in energy consumption. But there is a minus, the lack of full protection against leaks. And this model costs more than its competitors.

As you can see, depending on the functionality, compact washing machines can have different sizes. Models of equipment with a depth and width of less than 50 cm will have a modest set of programs. But sometimes even the minimum is enough to do the laundry.
