How to level a washing machine

level installationInstalling a washing machine is not only about the correct connection to communications, but also about leveling it relative to the floor. Few people pay attention to this issue, thinking that the washing machine will work anyway. In fact, there is a reason for this, and we will figure out why you need to level the machine and how to do it correctly.

Alignment instructions

Having chosen a place for installation, unscrewing transport bolts from the washing machine, you can begin installing it. First, the equipment is connected to communications, because all the hoses are connected from the back and it will be inconvenient to get to them if the equipment is pushed against the wall. Once the machine is connected and in place, you can begin leveling it.

Before installation, check the evenness of the floor itself; it should not have a strong difference, protrusions or holes; if this is found, then it will be very difficult to level the washing machine. You need to level the floor first.

In order to level the position of the washing machine, you just need to adjust the height of the legs. These legs are found in all washing machines. Some models only have two adjustable legs, while others have all four adjustable legs. We do the following:

  1. Using the wrench that comes with the washing machine, you need to loosen the locknuts on the legs.
  2. Screw in all the legs until they stop; if there is a need for the machine to stand higher, then unscrew them to the desired height and visually achieve a level position.

    If the machine tilts in one direction, then you need to unscrew the leg on the side where the machine tilts.

  3. Now place the spirit level on the top cover and look at the air bubble to see if it is strictly in the middle. If the level shows a deviation, then you need to tighten the front legs.
  4. Next, we shift the level perpendicular to the initial position, and level the machine horizontally, twisting the other pair of legs.
  5. Be sure to check that the side wall is level and level. To do this, apply the level to the front or side wall, as shown in the figure.

Adjustment of the legs continues until the washing machine is stable, and the level shows a strictly horizontal position.

When finished, be sure to secure the locknuts on the legs so that they do not stray from the desired level. Sometimes, in order to achieve a stable position, you do not need to twist the leg, but move the machine slightly to the right or left, forward or backward. In general, in order to install the machine perfectly correctly, you need to be patient; it is not always possible to do it quickly. That is why experts recommend installing the washing machine on a tiled floor or a floor with a cement screed.

However, even a properly installed washing machine can become misaligned over time. What does this come from? It’s simple, firstly, the machine can move due to constant vibrations, and secondly, the soil on which the house is built can “move”, which means the level of the building also shifts.

Why do this?

A natural question arises: why even level the machine then? Despite various factors, this must be done. After all, an incorrectly installed machine will vibrate excessively and sometimes even jump. Excessive vibration of the drum and the entire washing machine leads to faster wear of parts and the equipment breaks down.

The most common problems caused by vibration are:

  • the plastic tank cracks;
  • the tiles in the room on the wall crack from the impacts of a vibrating machine;
  • the car “moves out” from its place;
  • bearings wear out.

To install the machine correctly and prevent it from jumping, some users, based on their experience, recommend using rubber cups under the legs. They are mounted on the floor and reduce machine vibration.

So, you can level the washing machine yourself. If you have no desire to do such work or do not have the tool for this, then call a specialist so that it does not jump later. But just do not leave the machine in an unstable position!
