How to integrate a dishwasher into the kitchen

how to integrate a dishwasherFar from all people have the opportunity to make major repairs in the kitchen relatively often: change the kitchen set, remodel wiring, sewers, pipes and so on. But what if the kitchen is already done, I don’t really want to redo anything in it, but there is a need to purchase a dishwasher? Even if the kitchen is not small, it’s impossible to find a place for new equipment from the doorway, especially equipment requiring communication. How to integrate a dishwasher into a finished kitchen, this will be discussed in this story.

We are looking for a place and calculate sizes

dishwasher placement optionWhen we are just starting to plan the interior of the kitchen, and in this room there is nothing but the battered walls, it is much easier to determine where the dishwasher will stand. In our case, a well-functioning kitchen is already available, everything in it is in its place and there is nothing superfluous. How to integrate a new household appliance into such a room, and even a very large one, is a crucial issue that requires first-priority resolution.

To begin with, an idea should ripen in your head where you could put this kitchen unit. As you know, you have to think very well, because there are not so many acceptable options. Thinking about the installation location, you should keep in mind the thought of connecting a dishwasher, because just putting it in is not enough, you need to ensure its normal operation, without any “technical extreme”. Experts in this regard offer several ideas.

  • Place the dishwasher in the sink under the sink. The idea itself is not bad, the width and depth of the washing just coincides with the width and depth of many models of dishwashers. And the height can be increased by redoing the bottom of the sink. The siphon will also have to buy a special one, but it is close to water and sewer communications.dishwasher under the sink
  • Put the dishwasher in one of the large floor cabinets, which was used to store large-sized dishes. The cabinet, of course, will have to be redone, we will talk about this a little later.
  • Put a dishwasher instead of an electric stove. Many now refuse electric stoves, replacing them with smaller overall cooking surfaces. If you do not need an oven, and you still planned to "write off" your old electric stove - this option can be considered by you.
  • Remove the least needed element in the kitchen and place the dishwasher in it. It is unlikely that you will find such a part of the kitchen set, however, this option should not be discounted.
  • You can place the dishwasher on top of a free-standing household appliance. For example, if you have a washing machine somewhere in the corner of the kitchen, away from the kitchen set, you can put a “dishwasher” on top, although in this case no one removes questions of aesthetics.

Note! It is not necessary to put the dishwasher on the floor, there are many design solutions when this machine was built into cabinets that hung from the floor at a height of 60-90 cm, or even higher.

Before deciding whether a dishwasher enters a particular place, you need to decide what type of machine you want. There are the following types of "dishwashers":

  1. not built-in - they are not intended for installation in furniture;
  2. partially recessed - can be put in furniture, but not in any;
  3. fully built-in - a special technique designed to be integrated into the kitchen unit.
  4. Compact - they take up so little space that they enter any ready-made kitchen.

Fully built-in, small or partially built-in dishwashers fit best into the finished kitchen. How to make calculations and successfully enter the built-in car in the right place, you can read in the article Installation of the built-in dishwasher. By the way, if you buy a compact dishwasher, then you don’t have to look for a place for it for a long time, because the dimensions of a small “dishwasher” are comparable to the dimensions of a microwave oven.

How to remake a cabinet under the "dishwasher"?

If you have a cabinet in the kitchen where you can install a dishwasher (it is suitable in size), then you need to properly adapt it for these purposes. By the way, not only standard floor cabinets with shelves are suitable. You can even integrate the dishwasher in a cabinet with drawers. What are we doing?

  1. We remove the front part of the cabinet. If the cabinet has drawers, pull them out.
  2. We pull out all the contents from the inside along with the shelves.
  3. We turn off the hinges on which the doors were held - they may interfere with the installation of the dishwasher.
  4. We turn off the back wall - it will only disturb us.
  5. We wonder in size whether our dishwasher will go in, if so, we order the facade on a cabinet.

Important! If you do not want to spend money on the front part or there are problems with its manufacture, you can return the doors back, after remaking the hinges on them.

What may be required for installation?

What tools and materials will be required to install a “dishwasher” in the finished kitchen? We can only speculate, there are thousands of options. Basically, a standard set of tools is required, which is in the pantry of each ownerBut with the accessories, not everything is clear.

  • If the dishwasher will stand from a siphon or drain pipe at a distance of 1.5-2 m, the standard drain hose included with the dishwasher may not be enough. We do not recommend trying to connect the hose, it is better to buy a solid, but genuine.
  • An extended inlet hose may also be required. If it is assumed that the dishwasher will be connected to hot water, then two hoses.
  • A brass plumbing tee with an overhead tap is required.
  • You will also need fum tape and rubber gaskets.
  • If the "dishwasher" will be installed in the sink, you will need to buy a special siphon.

The above list of materials are the main components, but you may also need a whole bunch of different little things: self-tapping screws, countersunk hinges for doors, clamps, crimp couplings and more. Generally, Be prepared to correlate your ideas with those materials that are at hand or that can be easily purchased.

Note! If you will make a separate outlet under the dishwasher, get a two-core copper wire with good insulation and a moisture-proof outlet.

Where and how to connect a dishwasher?

The place is chosen, the materials are collected, ideas have appeared, we begin to connect the dishwasher. But where to connect it, because the electric and water communications were not specially prepared for the dishwasher. Let's start with the electrics. The problem is that in the finished kitchen there is hardly a separate outlet for a powerful consumer, and sticking a power cord into an existing outlet that is connected to a refrigerator, microwave or other appliance is not recommended. You can bring a new outlet from the communications of the electric stove.socket for dishwasher

  1. Turn off the power by turning off the toggle switch in the electrical panel.
  2. Unscrew the socket 380 V.
  3. Take a screwdriver indicator and find the phase and neutral wire.
  4. We bring these wires through the terminal connection to the side.
  5. We drill holes in the wall and install the “offal” of a new outlet.
  6. We connect, carefully tighten everything, and then put the body of the waterproof socket.

This option to output the outlet is not entirely correct, but we have no special options. We cannot shatter the walls for new wiring or fasten the cable channels, since the kitchen has already been made. Now we will solve the issue of water and sewer communications, we will try to do this also with little blood.

  • We cover the cold water.
  • We disconnect the hose going from the metal-plastic pipe to the mixer.
  • We install a tee with a tap on the hose and connect it back to the mixer.
  • We connect the flow filter to the tee, and then the “dishwasher” inlet hose to it.

As you can see, no global alterations, everything is purely neat, but very effective. Now connect the dishwasher to the sewer. There is nothing special here - we install a pre-purchased siphon with a tap for a drain hose. We are connected to this branch without forgetting to make a knee at the siphon and at the base of the “dishwasher”. Now it remains only to put the dishwasher in place and conduct tests - the work is finished.

Summing up, we note that if you do not know where to “stick” the dishwasher into an already made kitchen, do not despair. Turn on your head, learn expert advice and act. We not without reason hope that you will succeed!

In general, not professionally, while I watched 10 seconds of the video, I couldn’t go further (aversion to the work being done, such as a perversion) I will say the following: cabbage-cabbage. I hooked 2 tees from a flexible water supply. At the same time, he bothers about leaks and short circuits from electro, he gives a temporary hut through an extension cord, no comrades are no good and do not learn from his example. I myself made repairs and I have everything on the propylene in the wall through the comb and each branch on the comb is blocked separately. Each consumer has his own wire (dishwasher, water heater, stoves, washing machine, lighting, wiring through the rooms and all this through a differential machine. Plus, at the input there is a funny thing that can withstand 7000 amperes of lightning entering the wiring and protects it from wire breakage (zero) electricians will understand - then instead of 220 V - 380 V appears on the network, comrades need to do this, and not sculpt the humpback like in the video!
