How to wash a winter jacket in a washing machine

washing winter jacketCan I wash my jacket in a washing machine? In this regard, the opinions of people were divided and this is not surprising. Those who washed the winter jacket correctly continue to wear it, but those who made mistakes threw away their favorite outerwear and now speak out against washing in the washing machine, or maybe they are right? Who is right and who is wrong, let's look at this publication, and at the same time we will deal with the question of how to wash a winter jacket correctly.

We erase correctly

Understanding how to wash a winter jacket, you must first understand the basic rules for washing this kind of outerwear. These rules, although of a general nature, nevertheless convey various aspects of the washing process of the jacket. Consider these rules.

  1. When preparing to wash a winter jacket, always unfasten everything superfluous from it and pull everything out of your pockets. Firstly, there may be elements on the jacket that are undesirable to wash, for example, a fur collar, and secondly, some detachable parts, such as a hood, can be washed separately.
  2. A winter jacket, no matter what material it is made of, does not tolerate intense exposure, so there are no programs that require machine wash and spin at high speeds.

Spinning at low speeds is less effective, but what can you do is better than spoiling your favorite piece of clothing.

  1. In order for the jacket filler not to pile up, it is better to take some measures, namely to put several magnetic balls or, at worst, a pair of tennis balls. Balls during washing and spinning will hang inside, breaking the filler and preventing it from collecting in a pile.
  2. Do not spare water. It is necessary to rinse the jacket in copious amounts of water, since the detergent that gets inside is very difficult to wash. It is better to rinse the winter jacket several times than to wash it later.
  3. Do not use washing powder, replace it with washing shampoo or gel. Firstly, gel and shampoo dissolve better, and secondly, rinsing them is much easier than powder.
  4. Do not get carried away by soaking. Keep your jacket in the water to a minimum, because whatever one may say, water is often harmful to the filler.
  5. Wash a winter jacket in warm water (30-400C), hot water can cause significant harm to it.
  6. If complex spots are found on the jacket, they must be pre-treated with special sprays, well, or at least soap.

Choose a detergent

Archie is important to choose a good detergent for washing outerwear. We can say that half the success of this enterprise depends on the quality of the detergent. If you wash your jacket with ordinary detergent, the jacket will leave white marks and stains that will appear every time you go outside. This is a rather unpleasant sight, so we will not even consider loose powders, but immediately turn our eyes to liquid products.

  • Grangers Performance Wash. High quality cold water soluble washing gel that is very well washed. Suitable for all types of fabrics and fillers.

Any gels and shampoos created for washing sportswear are most often suitable for winter jackets.

In the washing machine

The machine-made jacket care method is the most popular. Every third resident of cold countries erases outerwear in a typewriter. And, really, one does not need to, while exhausting oneself, rub the surface of the jacket, rinse it, pulling an unbearable thing up and down, and then think how to squeeze it out. It is enough to put a dirty winter jacket in the washer, and then pull out the already clean and wrung out. Easier said than done. Some still experience serious difficulties about this: in what mode to wash this thing, at what temperature to wash, at what speed to squeeze, can the steam and drying functions be turned on?

People have a lot of questions, so we will gradually answer them, at the same time telling about the process of automatic washing of a winter jacket from “A” to “Z”. First, we prepare the jacket in accordance with the rules described in the first paragraph of the article, namely: we pull everything out of our pockets, unfasten the hood, fur collar, lining, etc., fasten all the zippers or buttons. As soon as the winter jacket is prepared, we begin the process.

  1. We load the jacket, throw some balls about which we spoke above and close the hatch.
  2. Next, we need to choose a gentle washing program. Here, everything will depend on the model of the washer; the more modern, the better. Indeed, in modern washing machines there are a bunch of useful functions and programs. In addition, modern machines have a large load, and the more the drum is loaded, the more efficient and better it will be possible to wash bulk things.

Please note that the washing process will be better and easier for you if the machine has a “double rinse” function, as well as the modes: “delicate”, “down jacket”, “hand wash”.

  1. Correct the washing temperature. If the gel is good and dissolves in cold water without any problems, then you can choose washing the jacket in the cara temperature of 30 degrees, in another case 40 degrees, but not more.
  2. Next, we either turn off the spin or adjust its speed to 400, maximum 500 per minute.
  3. We press the button "additional rinse", if there is none, then we will have to start rinsing and spin manually in the second round.
  4. We press on the “Start” and wait until the program ends.

Separately, it should be said about the drying of the jacket. It is necessary to dry it on a horizontal plane, folding folding or, for example, a table top, is perfect. Just keep in mind that if the table is not made of moisture resistant materials, it can deteriorate if you spread a wet jacket on it.

So, we spread on the dryer a few well-absorbent rags, and even better terry towels. They will help absorb excess moisture. Carefully spread the jacket on towels while trying to straighten the folds with your hands, and wait about 2 hours.

It is unacceptable to dry a winter jacket next to a battery or a heater, and drying should not be exposed outside under scorching sunlight. The best conditions are in the shade, in a warm and well-ventilated place.

After this time, you need to go to the dryer and shake the jacket. Shake well so that the filler jacket dryingcrumbled inside, and not clumped together. At the same time, the jacket can be turned over and again try to smooth the folds with your hands. Further shaking and smoothing, we will repeat every 2 hours until the jacket is completely dry. If this is not done, the jacket will be badly wrinkled, and its filler may even deteriorate. Drying a winter jacket in a tumble dryer or dryer is prohibited!

Manually

It is also quite possible to wash a winter jacket manually.Such care is considered even more gentle, but this process is very time-consuming and quite long. When washing a winter jacket manually, you will encounter several problems at once.

  • The jacket will need to be thoroughly rinsed, and it will weigh a lot, given all the water that it absorbs. Therefore, stick to a rinse technique that does not involve pulling things out of one container and shifting it to another.
  • It will take quite a lot of water, so if you live in a house without running water, stock up on it in advance.
  • The jacket will have to be gently wrung out somehow, or at least wait until the excess water drains, and this takes a lot of time.
  • And finally, the thing will have to be pulled out and transferred to the dryer, while it will be wet. Firstly, it is physically difficult, and secondly, if the jacket is placed carelessly on the dryer, you can tear the fabric. When wet, the jacket is much more susceptible to damage.

Well, okay, enough philosophy, closer to the process. We prepare the jacket in the manner described above, and then immerse it in a bath of water in which you previously dissolved the gel. Then we wait 10-15 minutes, take a sponge and begin to rub the surface of the jacket inside and out. When the jacket is well impregnated and the surface is treated, water can be released from the bath.

After that we collect more clean cool water into the bath and start rinsing. As already mentioned above, you will have to rinse several times, or "in three waters" as they said in Russia. Having done this, flush the water and wait for the excess water to drain from the jacket. At the same time, water can be squeezed out manually manually, but without unnecessary efforts, so as not to damage the filler and not to create dents. Once the maximum amount of water has been removed, you can proceed to the drying, which we already talked about a little earlier.

To summarize, we note that it is a pleasure to machine a winter jacket in a machine way, unless of course you know how to do it correctly, otherwise you just ruin the thing. In essence, there is nothing complicated in this process, the main thing is to follow the rules formulated in this publication and everything will be fine. Good luck
