How to sterilize jars in the dishwasher

can sterilizationIn summer and autumn, housewives are engaged in homework. There is no need to recall how tedious this process is, so many are interested in at least somehow simplifying it. Recently, the network proposes to sterilize cans in the dishwasher. When we first found out about this, we thought that such a proposal was nothing but stupidity, but having studied the issue well, we revised our position.

Process description

Having examined different points of view, we decided to try this method ourselves. There is nothing complicated here, the main thing is that during the washing all microorganisms that live in glass jars die. Well, of course, you can’t use detergents, because even their insignificant residues can ruin all the work. What are we doing?

  1. We prepare jars for sterilization. If the jars are very dirty, they need to be washed. If a little dust has settled on them, you can not bother, the dishwasher will wash everything. Also check the dishes for chips.
  2. We clean the cuvette from the remnants of detergents so that they do not get on the sterilized dishes.
  3. We put the cans in baskets denser with their neck down.

If there is salt in the tank of the dishwasher, you do not need to remove it from there. In salt water, microorganisms will die faster and at a lower temperature.

  1. We close the door of the dishwasher, select a program that involves washing at the highest temperature, and start the process.
  2. At the end of the program, we get the sterilized banks and begin to engage in procurement.

Which dishwashers are suitable?

Everything seems to sound simple. However, it must be understood that the success of the sterilization process will depend on the capabilities of the dishwasher. SomeBosch dishwashers able to wash dishes at a temperature of 70-800C. This technique is quite suitable not only for washing dishes, but also for sterilizing cans. But not all cars have such capabilities. Cars Electrolux, Leran, Flavia, Indesit and others, are able to mostly heat water to a temperature of 600C, and this is clearly not enough for sterilization.

Open the instructions for your dishwasher and find out whether it can be sterilized. If she washes in intensive or any other mode at least at 700C, feel free to install cans in baskets. If the washing temperature is lower by 10 or more degrees, use old proven methods to sterilize the cans.

There are also dishwashers with sterilization function. They directly stated in the instructions that this technique can sterilize jars, children's glass bottles and dishes for allergy sufferers. But I want to note that such dishwashers in the Russian market are very rare, so you have to do with ordinary ones.

Pros and cons of this methodcan sterilization in PMM

We already mentioned that we tested this method of can sterilization, and we found it to be quite good. Maybe, of course, not perfect, but not bad. This innovative sterilization method has a number of advantages.

  1. The effect of sterilization is amazing. The banks managed to completely disinfect, so that the blanks in them survived the winter well. Out of 40 cans with cucumbers, for unknown reasons, only 3 were cloudy.
  2. The sterilization process proceeds automatically without the involvement of manual labor. While the banks are being sterilized, you can do something else.
  3. High performance. A whole mountain of cans and jars breaks into the dishwasher. All of them are sterilized at the same time.
  4. Respect for dishes. When you sterilize with your hands at least one jar and chop it during the "juggling" over a boiling pan. The dishwasher sterilizes without a fight, and this is some kind of, but saving.

This method also has disadvantages, and we will, of course, mention them. Firstly, time consuming. If you need to sterilize 7-10 jars, then it is better to do it manually. Spend less time. But if you need to sterilize large volumes of glass containers, then it is better to give the "palm" to the dishwasher.

Secondly, this method is not implemented on every machine. We have already talked about this and this is an absolute minus. And thirdly, how to sterilize in a dishwasher if you do home-made work in the country? Of course, you can drag the equipment to the cottage, but in the absence of a water supply system it will be problematic to connect.

So, what conclusion have we drawn from this story? Sterilization in the dishwasher, although not in all cases, is possible, and it can really make life easier for the hostess. To master the process you need no more than 10 minutes, and you can save with a good scenario from 40 minutes to 1 hour. So try boldly and share your impressions in the comments. Good luck
