How to winterize your dishwasher

preparing your dishwasher for winterA dishwasher is used not only in a house or apartment that is heated around the clock. During the warm season, a “home assistant” can work normally in a summer kitchen or in a country house until the end of the season. By preparing your dishwasher for winter, you can expect it to work great the next season, but you just need to know how to properly prepare it. Let's study this issue in as much detail as possible.

What if you do nothing?

There is always some water left in the dishwasher system, this is normal. When operating the machine in the warm season, you can ignore this; it’s a different matter if you plan to preserve the machine for the winter. Here you need to act methodically and first remove water from the system. Some people ask: why remove water at all, because there is very little of it in the machine, well, it will freeze in winter, and melt in spring, what’s special?

Even a small piece of ice poses a great danger to dishwasher parts.

In reality, water frozen in a plastic salt container will simply crush the container. The same thing will happen with the pipes and the garbage filter bowl. As a result, in the spring, instead of a working “home assistant”, you will receive a defective unit that will require serious repairs. To prevent the machine from breaking down at the dacha at sub-zero temperatures, you need to at least remove the water from it. But that's not all. To prevent the body from corroding and other troubles, you need to take a number of preparatory measures, which we will certainly tell you about.

How to remove water?

First of all, you need to figure out how to drain the water from the dishwasher. This is not a difficult task, but you will have to disconnect the machine from the water supply, sewerage and electrical networks.

  1. First of all, open the machine door and empty the washing chamber from baskets and trays.dismantling a dishwasher
  2. Next, remove the garbage filter and unscrew the cap of the salt container.
  3. Place a few rags on the floor near the right wall of the dishwasher.
  4. Place the machine on its side on the right wall and let the water drain out.
  5. Having thus removed most of the water, you need to return the machine to a vertical position, and then fill the salt receiver with salt for the PMM.
  6. We return the garbage filter to its place and tighten the cap of the salt container.
  7. Disconnect the drain and inlet hoses, and then tilt the PMM slightly to the left side. Some more water should drain from the inlet valve inlet and from the circulation block.

Now there is no water left in the machine. You can store equipment in cold weather. Nothing special will happen to her.

What else needs to be done?

When preparing a dishwasher for winter storage, can you limit yourself to just draining the water? In fact, draining the water is one of the stages of preparing the dishwasher for winter, and if the rest is not done, the machine can be lost. What are these stages?

  1. Clean the machine before storage with a special cleaner. How to do it? Take the good dishwasher cleaner, is poured into the powder tray, and then the long washing mode in hot water is turned on.
  2. After cleaning the machine internally, you can drain the water as described above.
  3. Next, you need to thoroughly wipe the washing chamber and baskets with a clean cloth.
  4. And finally, we put the machine away instead of storing it, leaving the door ajar.

The machine should be stored in a dry, clean place to prevent moisture and dirt from getting on the body.. There is no need to cover the machine with film or pack it in a box.

So, under no circumstances should you neglect preparing your car for winter. You can really lose your car and have to buy a new one by the next summer season. Take the time to do a number of simple steps, and after just a few months you will be able to enjoy the impeccable work of your “home assistant”. Good luck!
