How to Adjust Dishwasher Doors

PMM door adjustmentMost modern dishwashers have smooth door opening mechanisms of a similar design. These mechanisms are quite simple, but have a small drawback that manifests itself in embedded technology. The door, which at first opened and closed normally, suddenly becomes too weak and does not stay in the half-open position. Or, on the contrary, the door stops locking in the open position, which creates even more problems. If this happens, the dishwasher door needs to be adjusted, and we will tell you how to do it in the article.

Preparatory stage

Before we start adjusting the dishwasher door, we need to be properly prepared. This is very important so that subsequent work goes quickly and without annoying hesitations.

  1. You need to unplug the dishwasher and remove it from the niche in which it is built.
  2. Prepare tools and materials

No special tools or materials are needed; everything you need, as a rule, is in the pantry of any good owner.

  1. Read the instructions containing the procedure for carrying out the work.

You are already reading the instructions, which means we will assume that the third stage of preparation is proceeding as usual. First, unplug the dishwasher from the power supply, roll up the power cord and hang it on a special mount on the back of the machine body. Next, you need to turn off the cold (or hot) water supply to the dishwasher and disconnect the inlet hose. Lastly, disconnect the drain hose, not forgetting to plug its end with a plug.

The dishwasher is usually fixed in a niche with special fasteners.You need to take a Phillips screwdriver, unscrew the screws holding the housing fastenings and pull the dishwasher out of the niche. Although the dishwasher is not heavy, you still need to act carefully. Place a dry, absorbent cloth on the floor and place the machine on it. It is necessary to ensure free access to the body of the dishwasher from all sides. Now let's prepare the tools and materials. We will need:

  • Phillips screwdriver;
  • hexagon;
  • pliers;
  • metal cable 1.5 mm.

The last item may not be needed, so don't rush to buy it until you're sure you really need it. As they say, an autopsy will tell!

Work progressdoor adjustment

So, a start has been made. Bosch built-in dishwasher or any other is disconnected, removed from the niche and prepared for repair. Let's start. First of all, unscrew the side walls and top lid of the dishwasher in order to gain access to the smooth opening mechanism. Don’t be alarmed in advance; you won’t have to disassemble the dishwasher any further. We do the following:

  • unscrew the screws holding the right wall, remove it and put it aside;
  • unscrew the screws that hold the left wall, remove and put it away in the same way;
  • Lastly, unscrew the screws that hold the top cover and remove it too.

On the front, under the top cover, we see two screws from which cables are stretched to the right and left. These cables run along both sides of the housing and are connected to the springs. This is the door opening mechanism that we will adjust. To ensure that the door does not open so tightly or, on the contrary, stays in the middle position, it is necessary to adjust the door springs. How to do it?

We take the hexagon and begin to tighten the screws, from the base of which there are tension spring cables. If the door is difficult to open, the tension of the springs should be loosened; if the door does not hold well, the tension should be increased. Nothing fancy. It’s worse if one of the cables wears out and bursts, then the load on the second cable and spring doubles, and it simply cannot cope with its task. In such a situation, it is useless to make adjustments until the broken cable is replaced. What do we have to do?

  1. Loosen the screw holding the broken cable as much as possible.
  2. We take pliers and remove the cable from the screw, then disconnect it from the spring.
  3. We take out the new, original cable from the packaging and put it on the spring.
  4. We take the end of the cable with pliers, carefully pull it and put it on the screw.
  5. We adjust the cable tension according to the instructions described above and assemble the dishwasher.

To summarize, we note that adjusting the dishwasher door is a simple operation, for which the technician will charge a decent amount of money. Isn’t it better to do everything yourself, and spend the money intended for the master on a bouquet for your beloved wife? Although, of course, it's up to you, good luck!

    Electrolux has removed the door adjustment as such in new models. When I open it, I place a stone from the sea weighing 3 kilograms on the door. What can we say – progress.I’m writing this myself and I don’t know whether to cry or laugh at these would-be engineers.

    I also have an Electrolux, bought at Ikea, and nothing is regulated there either! I can’t imagine what to do!
