How to fix error E23 on a Bosch dishwasher

Bosch error E23An unexpected activation of the self-diagnosis system of a Bosch brand dishwasher is usually accompanied by a complete stop, until the “irritant” is eliminated and the unit is restarted. The “irritant” in this case is a breakdown or system failure, to which the self-diagnosis program reacts. In this publication we will look at error E23 in a Bosch dishwasher. We will focus on the causes of this error and how to quickly eliminate them, preferably with your own hands, so as not to overpay.

Why does it occur

Error E23, like any other, occurs suddenly. The machine stops and this can cause real panic in some users. The only universal solution that comes to mind is to turn the dishwasher on and off. This really helps, the error disappears, but after a few minutes it appears again. Why does error E23 occur? Experienced craftsmen identify three main reasons.

  1. Inability to drain waste water with a machine. This is the main reason and should be considered first.
  2. Water gets into the pan and, as a result, the Aquastop system activates. This is an additional reason, which on most models is identified by the self-diagnosis system as error E14 for Bosch dishwasher.

It happens that a Bosch machine shows errors E14, E18, E23 in turn after each reboot of the unit. This directly indicates the presence of water in its pan.

  1. The dishwasher control board is faulty. This is a universal reason, because due to a faulty board, the diagnostic system also fails and can show any error contained in the database.

It is very difficult to diagnose electronic malfunctions at home. We will not describe these malfunctions, but we will advise you to immediately contact an authorized Bosch service center if they are detected.

Water in the pan

It is not difficult to determine the presence of water in the tray of a Bosch dishwasher. You need to disconnect the equipment from all communications, then pull it out to a free place, having first laid something on the floor under the body, then tilt it on its right side. A strong roll to one side will cause water to leak from the pan, if of course there is any there.water in the pan

If you managed to drain a lot of water from the pan, it means that one of the hoses or pipes has lost its tightness and has begun to leak. How can I fix this problem? You will have to remove the tray, exposing the insides of the dishwasher and inspect all parts that may be damaged. First, carefully inspect the barely visible seams inside the washing chamber. Sometimes, due to a manufacturing defect, a poor-quality seam begins to let water through, which flows from the chamber straight into the pan.

Next, inspect how correctly the garbage filter is installed. Often, after cleaning it, the user puts the part in place without proper fixation. This causes water to bypass the seal and begin to flow into the pan. You also need to inspect the rubber seal around the door, especially its lower part. A worn seal can cause a small amount of water to either spill onto the floor or drain into the tray, depending on your Bosch dishwasher model. If the leak was not detected after examining the external parts, then the problem lies inside and the pan must be removed.

  1. First, we remove the front door panel and the decorative panel under the door.
  2. We close the door, remove the closers along with the hinge protection and open the door all the way.
  3. We remove sound insulation. Underneath it, on the outer part of the pallet, you can find screws connecting the pallet itself to the main body of the machine; unscrew them.
  4. We remove the garbage filter along with the mesh, simultaneously cleaning out all the dirt from there.

The lower sprinkler can also interfere with disassembly, so we remove that too.

  1. In the niche of the garbage filter we find 4 screws that also need to be removed.
  2. Place the machine on the back wall.
  3. We remove all the parts connecting the pallet to the main body: wires, hoses, pipes, everything that may interfere with pulling out the pallet.
  4. We pull the pallet gradually, separating it from the main body.

Exposed pipes, hoses, connections of pipes and hoses with other parts must be carefully inspected. A damaged pipe must be replaced. Experts do not recommend wrapping it with electrical tape or filling it with sealant.

Problems with draining water

replacing the drain pumpMalfunctions caused by the inability to drain water can be caused by a burnt out pump, damaged wiring or contacts powering the drain pump, as well as a damaged control board bus. How to fix problems like this?

We disassemble the Bosch dishwasher as described above. The drain pump is located on the side of the circulation block. Turn it half a turn counterclockwise and remove it, not forgetting to disconnect the wires. We test the pump using a multimeter and, if necessary, replace it with a new one. If the problem is in the power wire, you can also find it using a multimeter.

In conclusion, error E23 creates many problems, but the problems it causes are not that difficult to fix.The main thing here is desire, determination and readiness to strictly follow the instructions kindly provided by the masters. Good luck!
