Sometimes it happens that you open the hatch of your favorite Indesit washing machine, put dirty laundry in the drum, open the drawer, pour in powder, then press the power button and, in fact, that’s all. Press again, the Indesit machine again does not respond and does not turn on. You reach for the socket, the power cord is plugged in, everything seems to be fine, but not a single light on the control panel of the machine lights up, and the washing machine doesn’t make any sounds. Probable causes of failure
In such a situation, even a complete amateur understands that the Indesit washing machine is for some reason cut off from the power supply, and its modules are therefore inactive. This means that you need to check everything related to electrical and electronics, both inside and outside the washing machine body. You should always start with the simplest and most obvious reasons, for example:
- problems in the electrical network, or it is completely de-energized;
- the socket from which the Indesit washing machine is powered is de-energized or burnt out;
- The plug has burnt out or the power cord has burned out.

There's something wrong with the power grid
If the washing machine does not turn on, do not rush to panic and imagine various malfunctions; perhaps the cause of the problem lies not in the machine, but in the electrical network supplying it. If the Indesit brand “home assistant” does not turn on, experts recommend that you first check the outlet to which the machine is connected. You can easily check whether the outlet works or not by connecting a working electrical appliance to it.
Be careful! If you notice a problem with the outlet, immediately turn off the power and do not connect anything to it to avoid electric shock or even fire.

Network wire or FPS
Everything is fine with the socket, but the washing machine still doesn’t work, won’t turn on and continues to irritate the owner and hostess in every possible way. This means we check the plug and power cord, and at the same time the interference filter. On the Indesit washing machine, the network cable and the FPS are assembled together, which means they need to be removed together to check. - Disconnect the drain hose, inlet hose and power cord from the communications.
- We turn the washing machine towards us with the back wall.
- Unscrew the screws and remove the top wall (cover).
- Let's look under the lid. At the top of the case in the lower left corner you will see a mains capacitor; remove it from the mount.
- At the base of the case there is a special mount that holds the power cable; this must also be removed.
- Now all that remains is to pull the FPS out of the machine body along with the wire and plug.
Next, to understand why the Indesit washing machine does not turn on, you need to check the power cable separately and the FPS separately. We disconnect the contacts of the power cable and remove the FPS to the side, we will check the capacitor a little later. We take a multimeter, put the device in ringing mode, and then ring the wire as shown in the figure below. If the wire does not ring, it means there is a breakdown and the wire needs to be replaced; technicians do not recommend changing the wire strands separately.
For your information! Before you test anything with a multimeter, make sure that the device is working properly. To do this, set the resistance measurement mode and connect the probes of the switched-on device together. A working device should display zeros or a value very close to zero.
Now let's check the FPS. Our multimeter is already set to ring, which means we immediately put the probes on the contacts of the capacitor and check it. If the capacitor rings, it means we reconfigure the device to check the resistance and take measurements. If the multimeter shows zero or one, the capacitor has burned out, which means it was the reason why the washing machine does not turn on.
Varistor or control chip
Is your Indesit washing machine not working or turning on? The so-called varistor may be to blame for everything.This is an element of the control microcircuit, which is a semiconductor resistor that protects the microcircuit from high voltage in the network. When there is a voltage drop in the electrical network, the varistors in the microcircuit of the Indesit washing machine often burn and the machine then “stands up dead” and does not turn on.
A varistor is one of the few parts of the control board that you can check and replace with your own hands. This is what we will do.
- We take out the cuvette for the powder, then we find two screws under it near the niche that should be unscrewed.
- Unscrew the three screws on top (under the cover) holding the control panel.
- Remove the control panel.
- We disassemble the block and remove the control chip.
- We find varistors on the board and check the resistance of each part using a multimeter.
In most cases, a burnt varistor is immediately visible. They often turn black, or even completely burn out along with the tracks.
- If a burnt varistor is found, take a soldering iron and unsolder the legs of the faulty part and remove it.
- We buy a similar part at a specialized retail outlet and solder it in place of the burnt one. Soldering must be done very carefully so as not to damage the tracks.
If everything is done correctly, after reassembly the washing machine will work properly. It may well turn out that on the control board, in addition to the varistor, tracks and other semiconductor elements will burn out. In this case, if the washing machine does not turn on, entrust the repair to a specialist. Let's start repair the control board yourself, there is a high probability that you will completely damage the expensive microcircuit, and you will have to change it, and this is up to 1/5 of the cost of a new washing machine.
Most official service centers do not repair broken circuits, but simply replace them. It's more profitable for them. But if you call several private craftsmen, you may well be able to find a person who will undertake the restoration of this part.
On/off button
Why else does the Indesit brand washing machine not turn on or work? If the washing machine is old, it probably has a broken on/off button. For Indesit washing machine models that were produced 15-20 years ago, when the “on” button was closed, the entire “home assistant” was de-energized. If you have an old Indesit, this problem could probably affect you too. What should be done?

- We measure the resistance of the button.
