Where is the pressure switch located in an LG washing machine?

Where is the pressure switch located in an LG washing machine?All washing machines are equipped with special sensors that monitor certain processes inside the unit. The pressure switch is one of these elements; it is responsible for the water level and, in accordance with its readings, gives signals to the washing machine regarding the washing process. At LG, the water level sensor is located at the top of the case close to the wall. Finding it, checking it or replacing it is not difficult.

What is this part and how does it work?

To get to the pressure switch, you need to remove the top cover of the washing machine. You just need to unscrew the screws holding it in place. Near the side wall (in the corner) you will see a plastic corrugated object resembling a washer in shape. It may be multi-colored or not, it doesn't matter. There are wires stretching towards it from one and the other walls of the machine, and a thin tube from the end.

Important! On some models the configuration is different: the pressure switch is more compact, and the wires are located only on one side, and on the other there is the same thin tube.

For many, the root “abs” probably evokes associations with pressure, and rightly so. In fact, the sensor does not respond to water, but to the pressure that it creates when pouring into the tank. The higher the pressure, the stronger the pressure of the air passing through the plastic pipe to the sensor. The air presses on the membrane, it closes a certain contact, and the electronic control module receives a command to stop drawing water. If the sensor does not respond to water and the washing machine, accordingly, cannot start working, you need to figure out what caused the failure in the pressure switch.In this case, the problem lies either in the contacts or in the relay itself.

Let's find and check the part

No matter how easy it may seem to you to check the pressure switch, do not rush to act. There is no certainty that the problem is in the water sensor, but if your car is under warranty, no one will fix it if you disassemble it yourself. Therefore, think before you climb inside the unit. If you decide to proceed with the inspection, do the following:

  • disconnect the SM from the power supply;
  • remove the top panel of the machine by unscrewing the bolts holding it;
  • inspect the right wall of the case, where, in theory, the pressure switch is located, make sure that you see exactly it;
  • unscrew the screw and remove the connector so that you can then easily remove the pressure switch from its position;
  • Now the part is held in place by one clamp, open it with pliers and remove the sensor.remove the pressure switch

Don’t rush to test the device with a multimeter right away. You can also check the reaction to pressure using improvised means. Take a small piece of tube (identical in size to the real one) and attach it to the device, then blow into it, if you hear a click inside, it means the relay responds to pressure; if not, it is faulty.

Checking with a multimeter

Using the method described below, you can check not only the pressure switches in an LG direct drive washing machine, but also the sensors in Ariston, Bosch and Samsung units.

  1. Place the electrical diagram of the sensor in front of you.
  2. Connect the multimeter probes to the corresponding contacts.
  3. Create pressure in the tube yourself so that the membrane works.checking the pressure switch with a multimeter

Look at your multimeter. If the resistance value does not change when the sensor is triggered, then the pressure switch will have to be changed.If everything worked as expected, the problem may be in the tube. Even a small hole allows air to pass through, which does not create the required pressure for the relay.

    Good afternoon Please tell me, I replaced the water level sensor, my LG 8kg fills a lot of water, what should I do next? Yes, I checked the hose from the sensor. Everything is okay.
