For fresh water, a stainless steel of normal corrosion resistance is ideal. The cylindrical filtering unit consists of the following elements:

  • a frame used to mount the drum;
  • drum from the washing machine;
  • water tank;
  • electromechanical drum drive;
  • nozzles and pipes to them;
  • blade;
  • fluid level sensor;
  • control unit.

Filters of this kind are used in cases where the fractions have the same size, the concentration in the water of particles of dirt, debris and other things exceeds 5%, the sediment lowering rate is not more than 12-18 mm / s, the thickness of the mud layer is not less than 5 mm, the time of one revolution of the drum is from 30 seconds to 10 minutes. Fine fractions that form a precipitate of less than 5 mm will only strongly contaminate the element, and it is difficult to clean.

What you need for a homemade filter

Home-made drum cleaning plants are characterized by the following basic principles of operation: after passing through the internal cleaning system, the filtrate enters a special tank, after which the filter surface is washed outside with nozzles. To make a device with your own hands, you need to prepare:

  • stainless mesh (used to create the frame);
  • filter material;
  • fasteners, with their help the fabric will be attached to the frame (screws, clamps);
  • metal frame necessary for fixing the drum and tank;
  • a tank for clean water;
  • a sensor that measures the level of fluid in the system;
  • pump;
  • pipes made of stainless materials (for input and output);
  • stainless steel container;
  • nozzles and plastic tubes that will supply fluid to the nozzles;
  • sediment tray.

The basis for the frame of the filtering device is the drum from the washer without one side. After all the parts and accessories have been prepared, you can begin the process of home-made installation.

We make the filtering installation

After the technology of the operation of the drum filter is studied, the main details and elements for creating a filter are prepared, you can begin to create a device. To make a filtering installation, you must perform the following algorithm of actions:

  • from a stainless support grid and a CMA drum, build a frame;
  • tighten the resulting structure with filter material;
  • install stainless pipes to the inlet of contaminated water and the outlet of the filtrate, weld the pipes with the body using an autogen. Joints can be insulated with a special sealant;
  • install nozzles above the drum, they will serve to wash the filter cloth inside the drum - the sediment available there will be washed off into the tray intended for these purposes;
  • mount the electric motor - it should be located outside, in the area of ​​the drum pulley;
  • automate the operation of the electromechanical drive by installing a fluid volume sensor and a time counter.

The process starts and proceeds as follows:

  • a liquid level sensor, upon detection of a reduced level of purified water, gives a signal to start the pump and engine;
  • nozzles wash the drum, thereby cleaning the filter surface;
  • a time relay controls the speed of rotation of the drum.

Filters of this type are widely used - with their help it is possible to purify water with a small private farms engaged in fish farming. The filtering unit copes with the removal of fodder residues, feces, and other fractions from the liquid. The life of a homemade cleaner is also quite large. The power of the drum unit will allow for high-quality filtration of a small volume of water for personal subsidiary plots.
