How to remove a stuck sock from a washing machine?

How to get a stuck sock out of a washing machineIt is recommended to wash small items of clothing, in particular socks, in special bags or boxes. However, few housewives listen to such practical advice; most simply load several pairs of socks into the washing machine drum and start the cycle. It is not at all surprising that “one” of many will be lost in the machine. It is prohibited to leave the product inside as it poses a potential threat to the equipment. Let's figure out how to get a sock out of the washing machine yourself.

Where did the thing settle?

There are several places in the washing machine body where a sock is likely to get stuck. It is better to start checking with cavities that can be reached without disassembling the machine body. And only if the product is not found in nearby places, you will have to start completely disassembling the device. First of all, it is better to inspect for the presence of a stuck small object:

  • space under the sealing collar of the hatch door;
  • tank bottom;
  • drain filter and snail;
  • system pipes.

To determine the location of a stuck sock, you need to carefully feel and inspect all potential hiding places.

You can only find a product that has been jammed by the machine using the manual method. This method is informative, but labor-intensive. It can take quite a lot of time to “feel” the parts of the washer.

Search without disassembling the machine

As we recommended, it is more advisable to start searching for the loss from easily accessible places in the automatic machine. In this case, it is allowed not to disconnect the equipment from the power supply and utilities. First, open the hatch door wide and bend the edge of the seal.You should act carefully so as not to damage the cuff. Under the elastic band there is an impressive gap where the sock could get stuck. If the product is visible in the cavity under the cuff, it should be carefully removed from the housing.sock stuck in garbage filter

If the space under the cuff is empty, you need to remove the drain filter. It is located on the front side of the car behind a special hatch or lower false panel of the front wall. Unscrew the filter element, not forgetting to place a rag under the resulting hole to collect water. Check the garbage filter and the exposed snail hole for the presence of a foreign object.

To inspect the internal structure of the washing equipment, it is better to use a flashlight so that you can see a fragment of a lost sock in the dark.

Let's get to the bottom of the tank

If the “in-place” methods are not successful, you will have to put more effort into the search. First of all, be sure to:

  • unplug the power cord of the equipment from the outlet;
  • disconnect equipment from home networks;
  • Move the device to a spacious place convenient for further work.

Next you need to open access to the heating element. The location of the part depends on the characteristics of each specific washing machine model. On some devices the heater is located behind the front wall, on others - directly behind the back cover. After unscrewing the bolts, remove the housing wall and find the place where the heating element is attached. After this, take a photograph of the location of the wires, loosen the nut and remove the element from the housing. A small hole will open to your attention, where you can also find the stuck thing.

Be careful with the heating element

To remove any small item from the washing machine that has settled in the tank, you will have to try and dismantle the heater. The heating element is one of the most important elements of the machine, so you need to remove it from the body as carefully as possible. At the end of the test, it is better to treat the rubber lining of the heating element with any cleaning agent. This will ensure easy further installation of the heater. If the heating element cover gets damaged during the work, you can always replace it with a new one.remove the heating element and pull the sock out of the tank through its hole

Also, if, when taking out the heater, you notice that it is very dirty, be sure to clean the element from debris and deposits. A lemon solution will help with this (pour 200 grams of citric acid into a container for 1 liter of water). So, in addition to an effective search for the missing item, you will take preventive measures to clean your personal “home assistant” from dirt, debris and scale.
