The length and diameter of the drain hose of the washing machine

Such a simple part of a washing machine as a drain hose is often not suitable in length. The user has to find another hose or build up the factory one. To do this, you need to know its dimensions, and not only the permissible length, but also the diameter of the drain hose of the washing machine. We will review various hoses and pay attention to the rules for their extension.

What are the sizes of hoses

All hoses for draining waste water from a washing machine or dishwasher can be divided into three groups:

1. ordinary, having a fixed length of 1 to 5 meters;
2. the hose in the bay has a long length, is sold by meter, divided into modules, for easy cutting. This means that a hose of any desired length can be cut off from it. However, to connect to the washer, the length of the drain hose must be limited, because a long hose creates an additional load on the pump;
   
3. telescopic hose - corrugated tube, which in a compressed state has a length of 0.6 m, and in an extended position of 2 m. The disadvantages of this hose are that it is more prone to clogging, vibrates more when draining and with a sharp extension it can be torn.
   

Drainage hoses are made of gray polypropylene, roughly speaking, of plastic. At the end of the hose, special fittings made of elastic rubber are connected. Speaking of the diameter of the hose, we mean the inner diameter of the fittings. Fittings of the following sizes can be installed on the hoses:

• both fittings of 19 mm;
• one fitting 19 mm, the other 22 mm;
• both fittings 22 mm.

It is extremely rare in washing machines to find a hose with a fitting for connecting to a pump with a diameter of 29 mm, for example, on old Indesit machines.

Hoses from the manufacturer TSG are Italian-made accessories in gray, designed for a working pressure of 5 bar. They are sold in different lengths, which affects the price. The main sizes: 1m, 1.5m, 2m, 2.5m, 3m, 3.5m, 4m, 5m. The price varies from 90 to 235 rubles. All such hoses have an internal diameter of 19 x 22 mm.

Hoses from TuboFlex - hoses from a Russian manufacturer, designed for a working pressure of 2 bar. They are made of polypropylene of various lengths from 1 to 5 meters. The manufacturer recommends for washing machines of such brands as Candy, Beko, LG, Indesit, Atlant. The approximate price for an accessory 3.5 m long is 190 rubles.

Helfer hose is a hose for a washing machine manufactured in Russia. Has a working pressure of 10 bar, which is very impressive, withstands temperatures up to 60⁰C. fittings have a standard diameter of 19 mm. The price for a part with a length of 3.5 m is about 350 rubles.

Hose extension

Manufacturers of washing machines in most cases do not recommend extending the drain hose. But what if the sewer outlet is far from the machine or it is not separately installed, and the standard length of 1.2 meters is very small. In this case, either completely change the drain hose, or set the desired length.

The first option is safer, because additional joints on the hose are the risks of water leaks. When choosing a hose length, keep in mind that it must not be pulled, so leave a small margin.

The maximum length should not exceed 3.5 m. Longer hoses will put pressure on the pump. If the pump is weak, it may soon break.

An adapter is required to connect the two hoses. This is a plastic tube that is inserted into the ends of the drain hose and secured with clamps measuring 16x27 mm. As you can see, the size of the drain hose is standard in most cases, especially the diameter.If one of the fittings of your washing machine has a non-standard diameter, you will have to order the original hose from the manufacturer or adjust the length. You will be able to handle this on your own.
