Such a simple part of a washing machine, like a drain hose, very often does not fit in length. The user has to find another hose or extend the factory one. To do this, you need to know its dimensions, not only the permissible length, but also the diameter of the washing machine drain hose. What are the hose sizes?
All hoses for draining waste water from a washing machine or dishwasher can be divided into three groups:
- ordinary, having a fixed length from 1 to 5 meters;
- The coiled hose is long, sold by the meter, and divided into modules for ease of cutting. This means that you can cut a hose from it to any desired length. However, to connect to the washing machine, the length of the drain hose must be limited, because a long hose creates additional load on the pump;
- telescopic hose - a corrugated tube, which in a compressed state has a length of 0.6 m, and in an extended position 2 m. The disadvantages of this hose are that it is more susceptible to blockages, vibrates more when draining, and can be torn if stretched sharply.
Drainage hoses are made of gray polypropylene, roughly speaking, plastic. Special fittings made of elastic rubber are connected to the end of the hose. When we talk about hose diameter, we mean the internal diameter of the fittings. Fittings of the following sizes can be installed on hoses:
- both fittings are 19 mm;
- one fitting is 19 mm, the other is 22 mm;
- both fittings are 22 mm.
It is extremely rare in washing machines to find a hose with a fitting for connecting to a pump with a diameter of 29 mm, for example, on old Indesit machines.

The hose from Helfer is a hose for a washing machine, made in Russia. It has a working pressure of 10 bar, which is very impressive, and can withstand temperatures up to 600C. fittings have a standard diameter of 19 mm. The price for a piece 3.5 m long is about $3.
Hose extension
Washing machine manufacturers in most cases do not recommend extending the drain hose. But what to do if the sewer outlet is far from the machine or it is not brought out separately, and the standard length of 1.2 meters is very small. In this case, either completely change the drain hose or add the required length.
The first option is safer, because additional joints on the hose pose a risk of water leaks. When choosing the length of the hose, keep in mind that it cannot be stretched, so leave a small margin.
The maximum length should not exceed 3.5 m. Longer hoses will place stress on the pump. If the pump is weak, it may soon break.
To connect two hoses you will definitely need an adapter. This is a plastic tube that is inserted into the ends of the drain hose and secured with clamps measuring 16x27 mm. As you can see, the size of the drain hose is standard in most cases, especially the diameter. If one of the fittings on your washing machine does not have a standard diameter, you will have to order an original hose from the manufacturer or add a length. You can handle this quite well on your own.
