For example, you need it only for the period of construction and repair work, there is no point in buying and renting from no one - what to do? A concrete mixer from a washing machine that you make yourself can be the solution.

Is it worth it to make such a homemade product?

If your hands grow from the right place, and you like to "mess with the glands", then this article is for you. “Without further ado,” you can very cheaply make an extremely useful thing in the household, use it yourself and then rent it out to friends and relatives. Many people are skeptical of homemade things, believing that the factory is always better, but in fact this is not always the case. We give arguments in favor of making a concrete mixer with your own hands.

  • A home-made concrete mixer costs a penny, and the benefits of it are exactly the same.
  • A home-made concrete mixer can be made according to an individual drawing, for example, taking into account the size of the body or trunk of your vehicle on which this concrete mixer will be transported.
  • It is easier to deal with a homemade product if it fails during operation, because you did it yourself, which means it will be easier for you to fix it.
  • You will finally find a worthy application for the details from the old washing machine, which are lying in your garage, barn or balcony.

We decided on the pluses, now let's talk about obstacles, and there are quite a lot of these obstacles too. Here are some of them.

  1. The manufacture of a makeshift concrete mixer takes time, and the time costs are very significant.
  2. You need to be able to "handle iron" and have a desire to work, otherwise, it is better not to start this business.
  3. You need to have an idea of ​​the final result, the idea and the necessary materials and accessories for the job.

What materials will be required and what to do with them?

The design of a homemade concrete mixer with an engine is not so complicated. It consists of three main elements: the engine, which drives the tank with concrete, the tank itself with the axis and the foundation on which the whole structure is supported.

When selecting materials and components, it is already necessary to imagine what sizes the concrete mixer will be. The overall concrete mixer has a large capacity and it can mix a lot of concrete at a time, but it will require a powerful engine (it will not work from the washing machine). In addition, you cannot put such an aggregate into a passenger car; you have to order a truck for transportation, and this is inconvenient. It is better to make a concrete mixer with a small capacity, it is easier to move, moreover, it is easier to find parts for it.

First, prepare the tools. We need a drill, a step drill, a hacksaw for metal or a grinder, welding, screwdrivers and files, a set of wrenches and pliers. From the materials we need:washing machine tank

  • Concrete mixer capacity. As a container for a concrete mixer, you can use the drum from the washing machine with sealed holes, the round tank of the Oka washing machine, although it is quite large. Some use even old cans and flasks as containers.
  • Engine from an old washing machine. The engine is also the main element that will make the concrete mixer work. You will have to install and connect it yourself. By the way, thanks to this engine, you can make do-it-yourself emery from the washing machine, but this will be discussed in another article.
  • Metal corner 50x50. It will be useful to us for the foundation of the future concrete mixer.
  • The inside of an old washing machine such as Siberia, Oka or Vyatka. Partially suitable elements from front-loading washing machines.
  • Two wheels. You can take it from an old car or cart, the main thing is that they can withstand considerable weight and move well around the site.
  • The metal rod is 4.5 cm. The rod is needed from durable hardened steel, since it will play the role of the axis, which will take on the weight of the structure. She will need to wear wheels.
  • Metal strips 50 mm wide and 4 mm thick.
  • A piece of pipe with a diameter of 30 mm.

Important! You will also need a large number of different components: gears of different sizes, drive belt, bolts and nuts of different sizes, gearbox and more. You can find a lot by disassembling an activator washing machine.

Assembling the design

washing machine concrete mixerTo begin with, we need to weld a powerful and convenient frame from the corners, so that the structure is as stable as possible, and the concrete mixer can be conveniently rolled from place to place. We suggest you pay attention to the "Swing" frame. Such an element will perform 3 functions at once: a powerful foundation that even the maximum load will not break, will allow you to easily move the entire structure and will make it possible to quickly remove concrete from the concrete mixer tank when necessary. We do the following:

  1. We cut two pieces of 60 cm from the corner 50x50 - these will be the bases for two triangles.
  2. We cut off from the same corner 4 segments of 80 cm - these will be the hips of the triangles, fold the triangles and weld them securely in the corners.
  3. We put the triangles opposite each other, put two pieces of the corner length 50 cm on their bird and weld - we get a stable structure of 2 connected triangles.
  4. We take a pipe with a diameter of 30 mm and cut it so that one end lies exactly on one upper corner of the triangle, and the other on the opposite upper corner of the other triangle.
  5. We weld two large nuts to the vertices of the triangles, one for each vertex. The nut bore should be 1 mm wider than the pipe diameter.
  6. We pull the pipe through the nuts and press in the ends so that the pipe rotates freely on the vertices of the triangles, connecting them, but could not jump out. Half the frame is ready - that's the foundation.
  7. For the upper part of the frame, as well as for the swing, we need two pieces of a 50x50 corner, 1.4 m long. We put them in parallel, 40 cm from each other.
  8. We take three pieces of a corner of 40 cm and connect two parallel pieces of the type of ladder.
  9. We find the middle near our ladder, then apply this middle across to the movable pipe of the base of the structure and firmly weld. We got real small swings, because the ends of our ladder can rise and fall completely freely.

Important! To make the structure stronger, you can weld additional rods or corners of a smaller diameter across the thighs of the triangle and in other places, creating a strong stiffener.

The basis for the concrete mixer is prepared. Now you need to install our capacity. At one end of the "ladder" we put our barrel so that most of its body is in contact with a metal corner, and we securely grab it by welding to both corners located in parallel. The bottom of the tank should look at the tops of the triangles. As a tank, it is better to use the tank of the Oka activator washing machine, because it already has an activator, which can be perfectly adapted for mixing concrete.

Of course, before use, the activator will have to be significantly redone. More precisely, we only need a mechanism, the plastic activator itself can be unscrewed and removed. What are we doing?washing machine concrete mixer

  • We take two steel strips 50 mm wide, 4 mm thick and 90 cm long.
  • We bend two oblong staples from them.
  • We pass the pre-prepared axis through the thread of the activator of the washing machine so that its end is 5 cm in the washing tub, and we put a nut of suitable size on this end.
  • We drill a hole in the center of the base of each bracket with a diameter corresponding to the diameter of the axis and put on the bracket on the part of the axis that is in the washing tub.
  • We spread the brackets so that their bases are crosswise, we put a nut of suitable sizes on the axis and grab it with welding so that the brackets do not come off the axis.

What did we do? Now, if we take the axis of our unfinished concrete mixer from the end opposite the end located in the tank, we can check the rotation of our mechanism, which will mix the concrete in the barrel. If everything is done correctly, the blades, which used to be the ends of brackets, will rotate in a circle inside the barrel. In order to make concrete mixing more efficient in the future, the ends of the brackets must be twisted in a spiral by half a turn with the help of pliers (significant effort may be required).

Note! At the bottom of the washing machine of the former machine there is a drain hole, now it is not useful to us and it can be brewed or just plugged well.

It's time to connect the engine to the opposite end of the axis of our homemade unit, unless of course you have planned to make a hand-held concrete mixer. Doing it yourself is not very difficult, but you need to understand the principle of connecting the engine to the network. motor connection to a concrete mixerThe installation of the engine is not limited to its connection, we will first need to fix it on the frame of the concrete mixer and protect it from rain. We drill holes in the corner of the ladder for fasteners that will hold the engine. There are holes for fastenings in the motor housing, they must be combined with the drilled holes, the bolts inserted into the holes and tightened with nuts. The engine cover can be made from an old car camera.

Important! Doing the engine cover with your own hands, do not try to close it completely, leave holes on the sides to avoid overheating.

The engine must be mounted on the frame so that its pulley does not reach the edge of the axis 2-3 cm. You will have to connect the pulley to the axis through the flange.

  1. We take a piece of pipe 3.2 cm, we put one end on the axis, and the other on the engine pulley.
  2. We drill holes on both sides with a 4 mm drill to pass through the flange and pulley and through the flange and axis.
  3. Thread through the holes bolts of suitable sizes and tighten them with nuts.

The engine is connected to the axis, now we connect it to the 220V network and check the operation of the concrete mixer. The advantage of our simplest concrete mixer is that when we need to merge part of the concrete from the tank, we just take on that end of the “swing support” on which the engine is located and lift it up. The barrel goes down and concrete spills out. The disadvantage of the design is that in order for the barrel to be positioned at the right angle, we will have to substitute a special support under it in the form of a T-shaped crutch. But in general, such a concrete mixer made from beginning to end with its own hands is quite functional.
