Usually old things are given to other people, turned into doormats, or thrown into the trash. But you can turn torn things into rugs for the hallway, toilet, bathroom, or knit a chair pad, the main thing is to choose a pattern and fabric.

For a rug in the toilet room you will need:
- an old green robe,
- yellow scarf,
- children's orange T-shirt,
- scissors,
- hook,
- needle and thread.

We “disassemble the robe into parts”, separating the lock, belt, sleeves, pockets, so that when cutting strips the fabric is single and not thick. Then we cut everything into strips of at least 0.5 mm. and no more than 2 cm, otherwise, either the fabric will tear or the mat will be very hard.

Long items can be cut into strips and then sewn together. Or you can, like small parts, cut in a circle or, not reaching the edge of the fabric, start cutting the fabric in the opposite direction, repeating the procedure until the material runs out.

Once you've cut the clothing into strips, start tying the ends to create a grass effect and twist the "threads" into a ball. You can pre-sew the ends of the strips, then the rug will be more even. You can choose any drawing based on your goals. So for a cold floor, knit a tight rug using single crochets or 1, 2, 3 crochets, which depends on the thickness of the strips. To decorate chairs, you can knit openwork rugs using any napkin pattern as a basis.

In this case, the rug is knitted from 6 rows of green stripes in double crochet stitches and 1 row of yellow single crochet stripes. Next, crochet any decorations for the rug: a 7-petal flower, leaves, and sew them to the rug with threads. Please note that for lining the chairs it is better to immediately choose an openwork pattern or decorate it with appliqué to make it comfortable to sit on.

Thus, no special professional knitting skills are required to create an ordinary rug from old things. Basic knowledge of a set of yarn overs and imagination to design the product will be enough.

I also knit such rugs, but I cut the strips wide and knit them with the largest crochet hook - that way they are more durable.
