Having read a lot of insinuating and meager descriptions of this technique, in which the first thing that was written were the words: “You all cut out snowflakes for the New Year in childhood. These were your first vytynanki..."
But about the technology itself, of course, very, very little. Fate brought me together with a woman, a professor, an artist. In the conversation, I accidentally expressed my interest and concern about the futility of attempts to find materials on the vytynanka technique.
On the same day, I received books and magazines on parole for a week. And a month later I was already teaching elective labor classes in an elementary school, teaching children the age-old national form of applied art.
To work, you just need several sheets of multi-colored paper, a pencil, an eraser, small scissors (preferably nail scissors) and glue.
Oh, yes: also imagination, perseverance and great desire.
You can draw sketches for your work yourself or copy them using tracing paper or carbon paper from books or magazines. But the point is to create something of your own, original. Therefore, I prefer to draw small sketches, enlarge them and, only then, transfer them to a sheet of paper folded exactly in half.
It is necessary to cut out carefully, both sides at the same time, since the pattern in a traditional weave is identical and symmetrical on both sides. This is a modern technique of execution - asymmetrical and arbitrary. While cutting, try to turn the sheet rather than twist it with your hand with scissors, this way the result will be much neater.
The finished work should be ironed and pasted onto a sheet of paper or cardboard in a contrasting color.
The work presented today was made using the traditional technique of making vytynanka, the sketch and theme of the work are original, mine. I called this vytynanka “The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.”
