How to lubricate the motokosa gearbox in a simple way

How to lubricate the brushcutter gearbox? Many trimmer users do not attach importance to overheating of the mowing head reducer. And, of course, in the event of a breakdown, they immediately run to the repair shop. To save time and money on repairs, it is enough to lubricate the gearbox and forget about unnecessary expenses before the start of the season.
The gearbox is one of the most loaded parts in this device and quite often fails. Therefore, it definitely needs periodic maintenance.

Will need

For lubrication, you will need very few materials and tools:
  • Disposable 5-20 ml syringe.
  • Brand lubricant recommended by the manufacturer. As an exception, another type of "Litol 24", "CV Joint" or another type suitable for lubricating gearboxes is suitable.
  • Hex wrench.

Lubricate the trimmer gearbox yourself

On the side of the head there is a bolt that is specially designed for introducing lubricant into.

We take a syringe, temporarily remove the piston from it. We put grease in the cylinder. Usually this amount is 5-10 grams (a more accurate amount is written in the manual for motokosa).

We install the piston into place and use a syringe to pump grease through the hole into the gearbox itself.

And for eight years now, through this hole, I have also filled a thick (transmission) syringe with a syringe or, in general, Nigrol oil, the trimmer works perfectly, quietly. As soon as it starts to make a noise or bask again I fill it. Usually 3-4 days. Of course it’s expensive, but worth it. Do not spare the oil.

It is necessary to fill the gearbox with grease by 3/4, otherwise the glands will be squeezed out. Before this, it is necessary to clean the gearbox from the old grease- (gasoline is possible).

! Before filling new grease, flush out the old one. 2. Do not fill the cavity of the gearbox with grease “all the way”, this will only increase the heating of the gearbox (it will take a lot of energy to mix the grease). Better to use the gearbox. 3. In general, the gearbox is heated primarily due to the "drying" of the grease in the bearings. And bearings in gearboxes are used closed - they will not get grease.

I unscrew the two bolts on the gearbox, in the first where I pump the grease, I twist the grease fitting and pump the grease with an ordinary car syringe. And from the expense of nigrol or oil, I would not recommend it. The fact is that there is an oil seal at the bottom of the gearbox, it still holds grease, and from nigrol or oil, when heated, it can fly out through the lower stuffing box and the gearbox will remain dry.

If you stupidly throw a new grease to the old one, as the author writes, nothing good will come of it.
Old grease can be partially removed with gasoline.

at the end of the syringe we put on a silicone insert from the earpiece. It turns out an analogue of an automobile syringe, i.e. grease is pumped under pressure and fills the entire gearbox, I think the bearings are lubricated.

For those who lubricate ... Probably will not be worse (if properly lubricated), but I have a third brushcutter in about 15 years ... (last 2 years). Different manufacturers ... Engines produce a resource. (you have to mow a lot) Gearboxes never failed! Never oiled ...

The manual says that gear maintenance is not required. Well check. If there is no grease, add. But if everything with the scythe is normal, then you do not need to service this node. My scythe is already 10 years old.
