It seems that it has no place in the garage and, especially, in the luggage compartment of the car. This is probably true somewhere over the hill, but not in our country. We do not have highly specialized tools and the hammer drill is, of course, no exception.
Hammer + old drill and wheel bolt
From a broken drill and an old wheel bolt you can make a non-standard, but very useful working tool, which, paired with a hammer drill, will greatly help the driver in repairing and maintaining the car.
We cut off almost the entire spiral part from the drill, clamped in a bench vice, leaving for further use the mechanism that is designed to be secured in the chuck.
On the emery wheel of the sharpening machine, lightly clean the plane along which the drill was cut and the end of the wheel bolt shaft.
We tightly connect these two parts along the cleaned surfaces and weld them together using welding.The result is a hammer, which, after being fixed in the hammer drill chuck, perfectly helps to separate all kinds of parts.
These can be the tips or ball joints of the car's steering.
To do this, it is enough to place a hammer on the retaining part, turn on the impact mode and lightly pry the assembly being removed with a pry bar.
Also, a hammer drill with such a tool can be used almost like an impact screwdriver when disassembling the housing of a generator or some other assembly by acting on a hand screwdriver, the tip of which is already installed in the recesses of the bolt being unscrewed.
It is also useful for knocking bearings out of their seats. To do this, you need to install the hammer on the bearing to be removed and turn on the hammer drill. In a word, our device can be useful to the driver for performing a lot of similar and other types of work, if you are smart.
For example, quite often when repairing a car chassis or components that constantly experience high temperatures, it is not possible to loosen a threaded connection. If we properly tap a stubborn bolt or nut with our tool, then, usually, after such vigorous impact, they are easily unscrewed with a regular wrench.
Hammer + chisel
Such a homemade product is simply an invaluable find for those drivers who repair a car with their own hands. It is only important that the hammer drill has a chiselling mode, that is, a blow without rotation.
Then, by inserting and securing a chisel-shaped tip in the chuck, you can literally cut a stubborn nut that could not be unscrewed by any other methods or devices.
Also, by using such a tip in the chiselling mode of a hammer drill, you can easily unscrew the jammed nut on the grinder, which holds the cutting disc on the spindle.
Hammer + extension of old driver
For the next homemade project we will need an extension of the old wrench.
We clamp it in a bench vice and cut off the front part using a grinder or a hacksaw and also weld it to the base of the drill.
As a result, such a tool will allow you to press bearings of different sizes thanks to the selection of a suitable head.
Also, this combination of tool and working element, when using the rotation and impact mode, turns the entire system into an impact wrench, with the help of which it will be easier to unscrew the bolts and nuts of the vehicle chassis or dismantle the body units.
Hammer + ingenuity
You can also use a hammer drill to open car doors, for example, when the lock gets rusty or freezes in the cold. To do this, you need to use this tool in chiseling mode through a piece of plastic or a book with a thick cover on the door trim in the immediate vicinity of the lock. Small, but high-frequency vibrations cause rust or ice to crack, crumble, and the lock mechanism, freed from them, opens easily.
Using a puncher and a hammer, you can easily and quickly disassemble the generator by working on one of the parts with a tool in the chiselling mode and at the same time applying a small axial tensile force to the other.
Vibration in this and similar cases destroys accumulated and hardened dirt, dust, grease and other ingredients at the junction of parts, which facilitates disassembly.
This method can also be used to remove brake drums, knock out old catalysts from the exhaust pipe, etc.
