Do-it-yourself insulation of a balcony

During the cold season, I forgot about my balcony and preserved it, since the temperature there was practically no different from that outside. Finally, I thought about insulating the balcony from the inside. I want to share with you what I did for this.
Even before this, I changed the window on the balcony and installed plastic ones with triple glazing. The balcony itself is covered with siding from the outside. First I dismantled it from the inside. It was various tripe made from boards and fiberboard dating back to the times of the USSR.

Balcony insulation

To mount the frame I used a metal CD profile and in some places a UD profile to save money.

On the walls I attached the CD profile vertically along the edges, and four profiles horizontally. There were two profiles on the floor and above the ceiling and two in the middle. In those places where there was brickwork and concrete, I drilled holes for dowels with a hammer drill and attached the profile for quick installation. On one side of the balcony there was only a profile on which the siding was attached, so everything there was already ready for insulation. It is important to fasten the profile using a building level so that the frame is level vertically.
In the same way, I typed the profile on the ceiling.

To cut the profile I needed metal scissors. I fastened the profile together using special metal screws. Above the ceiling I insulated between the profiles with glass wool. Next, I ran a wire for lighting and covered this frame with plasterboard.

Before attaching the drywall, I made holes for the wire to slide through. The drywall is attached to the profile with self-tapping screws.
Next, I began to insulate the walls with penoplex.

I attached the foam sheets with glue that is diluted with water. Since this glue dries quickly, you should not mix it in large quantities. To cut penoplex you will need a construction knife. Penoplex must be attached to the wall so that it does not extend beyond the profile level.
Next, I used polyurethane foam to seal the seams between the foam sheets. This is additional insulation and waterproofing. In one part of the balcony there was a difficult place due to the pipe that ran from the battery. By the way, I installed additional heating on the balcony by installing a radiator there. In the place where the plastic pipe passed, I attached the penoplex close to the pipe, which subsequently disappeared behind the drywall.
I then proceeded to attach the drywall.

As on the ceiling, plasterboard is attached to the wall with self-tapping screws to the profile. Please note that I attached the drywall in two layers. That is, having attached one sheet, I mounted another to it. It is important that the seams of the two layers of drywall do not coincide. The second layer is also attached with self-tapping screws, however, it is necessary to calculate so that when attaching the second sheet, the self-tapping screw does not fall into another self-tapping screw when screwed.

Trimming drywall can also be done with a construction knife. Having cut through the cardboard on one side, the plaster breaks off.
Behind the battery I installed pumpan insulation. For ease of installation, I removed the battery. I attached the insulation to the wall with glue, and additionally secured it with an umbrella on one side and the other of the radiator.

I also sealed the pumpan joints with polyurethane foam. It is best to use a special gun for polyurethane foam. This is not only economical, but also convenient, since you can use foam at any time. Regular foam canisters must be used immediately.
I also trimmed the window slopes with pumpan.

This method of insulation is very effective, and even in winter I can go out onto the balcony in a T-shirt and not freeze, as I did before. Some people extend rooms by using a balcony, and this method of insulation using penoplex and two layers of drywall will also be effective in this redevelopment. After this, you can finish the walls with putty and paint them, or cover them with wallpaper.

1: bringing central heating batteries onto the balcony (loggia) is prohibited! (no one will ever give you permission to do this), 2: in the first photos you can see that you dismantled the balcony railings... this is strictly prohibited! (this is one of the power elements balcony! with a loggia it’s simpler, although they can get warm there!) 3: dismantling the lower part of the wall under the balcony block is also prohibited, it seems, although permission is sometimes given, but they will definitely force you to restore it when selling the apartment.. well, this is a trifle)))

I recently saw a video, ants gnawed holes in the foam. The cotton wool gets wet. It’s not clear how to insulate it

They could sue you for taking the heating radiator out onto the balcony. Because of this, all residents of the house pay extra money.

In the event of an accident, utility workers in the cold slow down circulation for several hours. If you live in Sochi, it will leak, but in Salekhard and most of Russia the radiator will burst.
