Welder magnetic contact

I like things that simplify and make life easier. This device will help the welder and save him from unnecessary actions. It will be about how to make a magnetic mass contact for the welder from the usual unnecessary speaker. I'll tell you more in detail ...
Usually, to attach a common wire - mass to the metals being welded, use a clamp. Such a connection does not always give a tight and reliable contact, and there are times when it is not very convenient. With the help of magnetic contact it is possible in one motion to obtain a strong and reliable connection of a large cross section, bearing in mind a good touch area.

Will need

  • Dynamic head, naturally idle.
  • Hairpin
  • Cheburashka nut.
  • Washers

Making the magnetic contact of the welding cable

Welder magnetic contact

We disassemble the speaker, or rather disconnect the magnet. To do this, knock down the rivets. To do this, you can clamp the dynamic head in a lathe and bore. Or simply drill with a conventional drill. In general, it is not difficult.
Welder magnetic contact

And the magnet moves away without problems.
Welder magnetic contact

In my case, the core moved away almost by itself.
Welder magnetic contact

If it also doesn’t work out for you, then heat it with a gas burner and pop it with a screwdriver.
Welder magnetic contact

Take a piece of hairpin 8-10 cm long and try it on to the core. It will be fixed like this.
Welder magnetic contact

Drill from the back. The hole is not through, but about 80% of the total length.
Welder magnetic contact

Clamp in a vice and cut the thread under the hairpin.
Welder magnetic contact

We put two nuts on the hairpin and tighten them together.
Welder magnetic contact

And now we screw this improvised bolt into the core to the maximum, you no longer have to turn it out.
Welder magnetic contact

Now we twist the nuts.
In order not to lay the wire directly on the base, first we put on a small sleeve, and then a washer. Next is the welding wire.
Welder magnetic contact

We fix the washer and the wing-type nut on top.
Welder magnetic contact

Pay attention to the large area of the attached contact.
Welder magnetic contact

Now we put the magnet together.
Welder magnetic contact

For proper retention, you can put everything on glue or epoxy.
Welder magnetic contact

Magnetic contact is ready. We are trying to weld. Put on the sheet.
Welder magnetic contact

Welder magnetic contact

The clamping force is very good.
Welder magnetic contact

Welder magnetic contact

Welding is without red tape. Sparks do not fly out from under the pressure point, everything is perfectly fixed.

An "impromptu bolt" is called a stud, note author. By God, some kind of kindergarten. If a person has a head and hands grow from the right place, he will understand both the idea and the design of this picture. crafts. By the way, you can do without any drilling and threading - weld any suitable bolt with a hexagon to the core.

That's where you come from so smart? Can you read? The author calls a hairpin a hairpin! Open your eyes! And an impromptu bolt means a stud assembly with nuts.

When assembling, the gap must be maintained, it cannot be blocked - these are the North and South poles of the magnet. If you close, then there will be magnetic shunting, the external field will weaken.
Before use, it is necessary to fill the annular gap from the magnetic coil with epoxy resin, otherwise iron filings and debris will fill there, reducing the effectiveness of the magnet.
A good idea, I’ll definitely try. The heat resistance of ferrite magnets is in doubt ...

Probably the people who propose this are generally far from the welding process. Professional welders are well aware of what a "magnetic blast" is and have often come across such muck. This is when it is necessary to weld two parts together, but it doesn’t work out, the arc dances to the side, the metal doesn’t fall into the bath, the visor turns out so that it breaks you up. This is due to the magnetization of the workpieces (this does not apply to stainless steel, and the magnetic mass does not roll there). There are methods to combat this phenomenon, but why create a problem, and then deal with it?

At first I thought that my welding machine was out of order ..... but it turned out that a powerful magnet was lying nearby, so all the molten metal was scattered in all directions ....

I have to do with welding and I know firsthand about blasting, nevertheless I use such a mass. It’s just not worth using it everywhere, and this possibility is determined by using the brain smile If you cook a large structure (yes, the same gate, for example), the use of magnetic mass is much more convenient. And there are options when a crocodile has nowhere to attach and weld something to the structure is undesirable - in this case, you can’t do without magnetic mass

The magnet is misunderstood: with a strong impact and HEATING, so that when you come in close contact with the arc, the "khan" will come quickly!

I did this adapt myself. Where I work with welding, I work with the grinder too, and here it is going to this magnet of any metal dust and shavings that I redid the mass back to the spring clip. Do it, but you need to learn from the mistakes of others.

And why all these manipulations, when in any welding shop a choice of magnetic masses is from 200 to 400 amperes and not expensive! and the welding cable, before attaching to the mass, must be tipped with a copper or copper-plated tip to improve contact!

in, and then twisting from a hard cable, heating is provided. Since the author got confused, it was possible to press the copper tip in as well. And so the idea is normal ...

I don’t know where this craftsman was learning to cook, but I wouldn’t give him a grip! It’s necessary, cook on a vice! Hands would be beaten by locksmiths. And as for the magnetic mass, they tried. Nonsense. Firstly, the contact is lousy, burns, in - secondly, it practically does not hold on the vertical, and thirdly, there are inexpensive clothespins with copper sponges.

full, the whole magnet is covered with metal dust, which constantly needs to be cleaned, and this is not easy, but through dust the contact becomes bad. and constant cleaning of the magnet takes longer, the most reliable "mass" is a good spring clip ...

There is one problem with these magnetic masses: over time, they become overgrown with metal dust and fireworks begin at the point of contact. That is why I do not recommend using epoxy (however, like any other glue) - it lights up. Well, then the stench is superfluous. If such a mass has already overgrown with a metal coat, I advise you not just to throw it on the metal, but to move it to and fro, to "rub" the contact point. But in general, the thing is quite convenient and known since Soviet times

You can’t do that. The welded part becomes magnetized. And such a device is not suitable for serious welding. Because the magnetic field affects the arc and everything else. Therefore, clamps are used as mass.

Nonsense. The contact is even magnetized, even though it is not in Africa and contact. The current is not transmitted at a distance, but only in contact with metal. Magnetic induction has nothing to do with the size and quality of the arc.
