New technology for floor foam insulation

If you started a repair, and still have not decided which material to use for the floor, then this article will be useful to you. In it, we will consider an inexpensive, but at the same time having a lot of advantages way of warming the floor with foam plex. Recently, it is often used in construction, including in the manufacture of floors.
It is worth briefly mentioning this material. Unlike foam, it is more durable, has higher thermal conductivity, vapor permeability, zero water absorption, and resistance to microorganisms. All these properties make this material suitable for floor insulation.

Thermal insulation of floors with penoplex

So, first you need to dismantle the old floors - linoleum, parquet, etc. In apartments, the base of the floor is screed and concrete, and in private houses it can be wooden boards. If both are in good condition, then you should not change anything. The illustration shows an example of a private house where the floors are wooden, but they were in good condition. In the event that the wood is rotten, then the floors must be removed and the screed must be poured with concrete. In apartments, everything will be much simpler. Most often, it is enough just to remove the damaged coating, after which you can begin to warm. If the floors are wooden, then you can additionally scroll them with screws to the lower beams, as over time the nails could weaken the mount. This is so that they do not creak.

Calculate how much material you need. Since sheets of foam plastic are different in size, calculate the square of the floor of the room, and already in the hardware store you can determine how many sheets are needed. The same is true for OSB boards.

Next, you need to select the highest point (corner) in the room, and from it start laying the floor. This can be determined by the construction or laser level. At the highest point, the foam layer should be minimal. At the corners of the wall and floor, it is necessary to pass with mounting foam for waterproofing. Next, the mounting foam is applied to the floor surface, after which a foamplex sheet is laid on it. Using the building level, it is necessary to level the sheet by tapping lightly on it with your hand. Before applying the foam, you can slightly dampen the floor with water so that the dust does not repel the foam. If the height of the ceilings allows, and you have the opportunity to raise the floors, then as a leveling of the floor surface you can use wooden slats 2-3 cm thick. The slats are screwed to the floor by level, and between them there is a series of foam plastic.

Thus, the subsequent sheets of penoplex are stacked. This material can be cut off with an ordinary construction knife. You will also need a tape measure to measure the dimensions that you need to cut. It is best to use a special gun for the foam, as this will be economical. If you use ordinary cylinders with foam, then opening it, you must use it immediately, otherwise it will harden. The gun can be used for several days.

After you lay down the foam sheets, and the foam on which you plant them hardens, you need to fasten the foam glass to the lower wooden floor with self-tapping screws. It is better to use self-tapping screws. Before tightening the screw, drill holes with a drill. However, it is not necessary to fully tighten the screw. These screws must be tightened in level. All self-tapping screws must be twisted in a row with an indent of 20 - 30 cm. Subsequently, the OSB plate will lie on them.

When all the self-tapping screws are screwed on, the foam plex also needs to pass with foam, including around the self-tapping screws, and put a sheet of OSB on top. Thus, it rests on the caps of the screws and the foam, which, when hardened, will hold the plates.

After this, you need to wait a bit until the foam hardens, and then screw the screws back to the OSB plates to fasten them. The indentation when twisting the screws should be 20 - 30 cm. The OSB must be fixed with the waterproof side up.

The advantages of this technology of laying and warming the floor is that it is not an expensive method. This is much cheaper than using concrete for pouring screeds. Also, laying of such a floor is carried out in a maximum of one day, if the room has the usual dimensions. If necessary, these floors are easy to dismantle.

Do you seriously suggest that people shove combustible insulation into combustible materials, which, besides burning toxic gases !? Extruded polystyrene foam is a good material, a good insulation. But it can be used in residential housing construction only on the condition that it is covered on all sides by fireproof materials. For example, it is poured into a screed. Or outside the house.

As for warming mother-in-law's house - a good option.
And no firefighters and prosecutors if they do not find intent.

in the construction of houses still use a bunch of flammable materials, if you do not know ... the log houses are entirely made of wood (it is not strange), modern framework is a foam wall floor and ceiling sheathed inside most often OSB, and outside or OSB or DSP ... The ceiling is wooden beams and boards are sewn on them ... the floor is the same ... so what’s the conversation

very unreliable way!) after several months of walking on the floor and more furniture, slaps of screws will crash into smallpox and everything that I did was "down the drain", and "money wasted"!

    Great post.
Seeing this - I really drove the author away from my private home with a broom.

    Even offhand:
1- In case of fire (and here the floors are wooden) everyone is guaranteed instant poisoning and no one can jump out of the house.

2- In fact, the wild consumption of foam, on which and on the hats of self-tapping screws: hold plates that accept a variable load from walking people, constant from of furniture plus temperature differences ...

    Afftar is this serious?

    That's the floor ...

    P.s.
Bars 50 * 30 or the like across the floorboards with a distance of 30-40 cm and glass wool between them. On top of the stove.

Much cheaper, faster and safer in the end. And the mice, by the way, will not annoy.

Read this article and never repeat it like that! Expanded polystyrene in residential buildings can be “rolled up” only under a concrete screed, without options. Pre-concrete foundation should be prepared, leveled. Outside, it is also better to hide polystyrene foam under fireproof materials, for example, using wet facade technology. Expanded polystyrene even in a relaxed state releases toxic substances. This is a good insulation, but only if used correctly.

You are all right, but you forgot about the main thing: OSB is prohibited for use in residential construction.
    1. Regarding the prohibition of OSB in housing and communal services
OSB (in this case OSB3) has a formaldehyde content class E1, which is lower than just in boards or sawdust. This is a note of some "especially smart." OSB, which are supplied by Krono and others, no one forbade. This is nonsense. Further Penoplex is walled up in the screed, or not walled up, but lying freely, as in a post, the phonite is exactly the same, and there is no difference, because concrete is not a sealing compound, which prevents the movement of fumes. Lord! You are somehow technically not very literate, writing all sorts of crap. Speaking of birds. Penopex, as well as polystyrene, are vapor barrier, and if it is correctly placed on a wooden surface, then nothing will rot. Here, ventilation of the space between the penoplex and the wooden floor is not completely thought out. Just the foam on which it is all glued will already provide a gap between the floor and the plex, but you need to apply it correctly. And everything will be alright. This gender will outlive everyone who wrote the comments combined.

fire safety is a moot point, and it’s time to teach chemistry, polystyrene emits exactly what wood burns, but what eventually decays, the probability is 99% ...

glory teach chemistry yourself, polystyrene foam - a derivative of styrene, read on Wikipedia, styrene poison. And the products of burning polystyrene kill even worse.

open the floorboard, hang the penoplex between the lags, and then top with a layer of mineral wool and vapor barrier, sew the top cover on top (preferably a floorboard, you can plywood and then parquet or laminate). there will be nothing to rot - you can check on a thermal calculator, the meaning of mineral wool is to reduce the thermal “blow” from above (the minimum layer ...), the foam layer is a cold cut-off, vapor barrier is required between the mineral wool and the floor, foam and the vapor barrier itself ..., mineral wool will lower the temperature to reduce the background of the foam ... after the finish coating the background of the foam disappears altogether. what is done here is harmful and unviable

Penoplex, as it turned out empirically, has one unpleasant minus. It enhances bass sounds. We naively insulated the balcony for them, so now the bass from cars passing with Mouzon is more audible than on the street (((

never do that !!! it is dangerous to health and expensive and stupid.
the one who wrote this is not a builder. he is not even familiar with the technical characteristics of materials.

The fact that it is fuel is half the trouble, but laying OSB on soft material is wow! Though. But the floor will bend underfoot.

The vapor permeability of the foam is low, what will happen to this piece of wood in a few years, rot and mold?

the vapor permeability of this insulation is 0, it is not excluded that the wooden floors will have a cab. and you will do a screed)

Many reviews - mostly water. On a personal example, the whole apartment (concrete floors) was insulated with 30mm foam, through the bars 30 * 40, bought, covered with 8mm OSB on top. Naturally, everything is through the foam. As a result, it became much warmer.Previously, the floors were icy, now I go barefoot. And yet, the floors do not creak (rustle without foam). So write what you want, but the result is on the face. And about all sorts of harmful things - look at your floors. Any chemistry has its side effects. Paints, varnishes, impregnations, glues, etc. And mind you - everything is on fire! Observe fire safety and all. And yet, reading the reviews, one gets the impression that there are only professional builders around. So why is it so "bad" (very softly said) build houses that you have to redo everything after you?
