Short-circuit socket for repairing 220 V devices

This is an incredibly useful device that will protect your home from a short circuit when checking any devices under test. There are times when it is necessary to check the appliance for a short circuit, for example, after repair. And in order not to endanger your network, to be safe and avoid unpleasant consequences, this very simple device will help.

Will need

  • Socket invoice.
  • Key switch, waybill.
  • Incandescent light bulb 40 - 100 W with a cartridge.
  • Two-wire cable in double insulation 1 meter.
  • Collapsible fork.
  • Self-tapping screws.

All parts will be attached to a wooden square made of chipboard or other material.

It is better to use a wall lamp holder, but if you don’t have one, we make a bracket for grasping from thin sheet metal.

And throw out a square of thick wood.

Will be attached like that.

As you can see, all elements are connected in series.
First of all, we collect the plug by connecting a wire to it.

Since the socket and the switch are wall mounted, with a round file on the side we will make cuts for the wire. This can be done with a sharp knife.

We screw the wooden square to the base with self-tapping screws. Pick these so that they do not go through.

We screw the lampholder with a bracket onto a wooden square.

We disassemble the socket and the switch. Screws to the base.

We connect the wires to the cartridge.

For complete reliability, all wires are soldered. That is: we clean, bend the ring, solder with a soldering iron with solder and flux.

The power wire is fixed with nylon ties.

The circuit is assembled, the installation is ready for verification.

For testing, insert the charger from the cell phone into the outlet. We press the switch - the lamp does not shine. So there is no short circuit.

Then we take the load more powerful: the power supply from the computer. Turn on. An incandescent lamp flashes at the beginning and then goes out. This is normal, as there are powerful capacitors in the unit that become infected at the beginning.

We imitate short-circuit - we insert tweezers into the socket. Turn on, the lamp is on.

Here is such a wonderful and very necessary device.

Such an installation is suitable not only for low-power devices, but also for powerful ones. Of course, a washing machine or an electric stove will not work, but by the brightness of the glow, you can understand that there is no short circuit.
Personally, I have been using such a device almost all my life, checking on it all newly assembled crafts.

Buy just a circuit breaker or overload protector. In their stores all sorts of.

The machine itself should be. And this method allows you to safely turn on electrical appliances without fear of short circuit and burnout of something in the circuit. The machine has a certain inertia of switching on, so as a rule everything has time to burn out

The main thing here is to understand the physics of the process - the bulb and the load are connected in series and the voltage on them is divided inversely in proportion to the power. The more power, the less voltage drops on it.
There are frankly few 40 W bulbs for such a device. In Soviet books, the bulb is always 100 watts (it was no longer in the USSR in such dimensions). And then for example a TV is not enough. And with 40-ka, you can only check the charging from the mobile. A computer power supply under load consumes 100 watts easily, which means it will have only 110 V of voltage, not everyone will even start!

Never do that. Do not really check the network and run the risk of getting an electric shock. Use circuit breakers and differential protection.

useful thing. with this homemade product I also disassemble the ferrite glued cores of pulse transformers, in this case the lamp is used as ballast resistance, I have a 60W lamp in such a fixture, sometimes I use a 200 W lamp depending on the power of the device under test

And I especially liked "Imitate short-circuit - insert tweezers into the socket. Turn on, the lamp shines" ... Damn! Or maybe just immediately put your fingers into the socket without tweezers ??? If only they indicated that the tweezers were insulated!

Apparently, it’s completely for those who did not study at school .... A 40-watt lamp will burn sequentially with almost any load of active or inductive more or less high power ... why such articles? to confuse people? so you can check only a primitive network without load and even with a stable short circuit, but it sometimes does not immediately block .... it costs two minutes three and then short circuit ... stupidity ....
