Easy way to unscrew the grinder nut

A quite common problem for those who use a grinder is a angle grinder, a cutting disc breaks and tightly clamps the clamping nut. And the most interesting thing is that sometimes it is almost impossible to unscrew the nut either with a special angle grinder or with a gas wrench, or something else. And if you manage to do it, then it takes tremendous effort and time spent. I will show you a simple way to save your time and effort so that you can unscrew this grinder nut without unnecessary difficulties.

A simple way to unscrew the nut of the grinder

To unscrew the nut, first of all, it is necessary to break the remains of the broken cutting disc under the root.

This can be done very simply with pliers. Do not forget about the protective equipment: glasses and gloves, as various small splinter flies.

The result should be this:

Now we need to find a piece of metal that will be thinner in thickness than the disc of the grinder.

Turn on the angle grinder and with this piece we grind the rest of the disk between the nuts.

After everything has been machined inside, the nut is unscrewed not only with a key, but even with your hands.

Here is such a very simple and very fast way. In addition, it is safe for the bearings of the grinder, since if the nut does not loosen, most people immediately take a hammer in their hand and start trying to unscrew the nut with tapping.

What to do to prevent this from happening again?

In order to no longer fall into this situation, you can put a plastic, paper or cardboard washer under the nut before clamping a new disk. And in this case, the nut can always be unscrewed without problems.

Cutting stones or discs are not always able to find the proper quality and therefore their fracture is becoming a frequent problem. Of course, the human factor of improper exploitation is not excluded. But now, if you are in a similar story, you know what to do. See you soon!

The rest of the broken disk is clamped in a vice and wrench, so as not to spoil the stopper, or with a gas wrench, unscrew the nut, easily.

Grinders are big and small, the keys to them, respectively. There is no strength to unscrew the nut, increase the shoulder or clamp the disk in a vice. The Bulgarian is 2.2 kW and at serious speeds sharpening a broken disk while holding a piece of iron in your hands there is a good chance to stay fingerless.

There are special nuts, such as Bosch.
It’s worth a little expensive, but sometimes time
matters more. And believe me, having tried 1 time

And for fools, there are tool brochures (angle grinders), such as Bosch, Makita, Kress. One needs only to pay attention to HOW THE DISK IS INSTALLED.
The firm Fiolent, dear to me, at one time (I don’t know how now) even stuck a sticker on the protective cover "Install the cutting disc with a metal sleeve here." Moreover, two years ago I sent an explanatory letter, according to which mechanical damage to the gear case with an incorrectly installed cutting disc should not be considered a warranty case.

More DANGEROUS advice is hard to come up with! Bite the plate and injury! It is necessary NOT including the grinder with this plate and a hammer to hollow out the rest of the disk in a circle or to cut it out with a hacksaw blade. A little longer but you will be more whole !!!

well, or to cut out the rest of the disk with a hacksaw blade.
      ----------
It is enough to cut out the material of the disk in the area of drilling, which is for the key on the nut - it is under drilling when squeezing that tubercles are formed that prevent turning. The hacksaw blade should be new, sawing slowly, but pressing firmly - leaves two blades.

For bearings, the method is, of course, safe. But for the cutter - not really. Most often, the discs are torn, not because of their poor quality, but because they are skewed in the cut, or sawed by themselves, or tensioned structures are sawed for clamping. I would definitely not recommend doing this, because the risk of injury is twofold - you can damage your fingers on the nut (wipe the skin, burn, tighten the gloves under the casing) and get a shard or piece of metal that can escape from your hands.

it is necessary to put the cutting disc with the front side inward, then the nut “sticks” to the disc, which rotates freely thanks to the tin center on the back side. Roughly speaking, think on which side you put the washer on the bolted connection ?!

Put a coin on the paper and light the paper ... wherever the paper touches the metal, there won't be anything on the paper. And I always use a washer, cut it out of an empty eggplant, always helps out, without a problem the disk is unscrewed.

Whatever the disk clamps, you must initially tighten it with a key, without fanaticism, but not by hand, as is customary. It bites the initially untightened disk when jamming in the processed material.

It pinched me twice. The first time I thought and suffered for a long time, I almost broke the key. Then he clamped the nut in a large vise, pressed the rotation lock and, using the lever of the grinder itself, successfully removed the nut. The second time I acted according to the knurled pattern ... The latch seems to be intact ..

Is this an easy way? Here is my way.We take a puncher, a broken one, or a whole 6 mm drill, insert it at an angle of 45 degrees into the hole of the disk washer and make a short 1-2 blow with a puncher. The clamped disc must be abutted while hitting the ground, the board or clamped in a vice.

I have been working as a grinder (different types: both imported and ours) for almost 20 years. Tearing and biting discs repeatedly. And now I weld a regular M12 nut (turnkey 24) to the clamping nut, and when installing the disk, I put a rubber washer (from the car camera) under it. And the lever for the key to unscrew the “bitten” nut, you can pick up any.

On each grinder there is a "STOP digging", which is located on the opposite side of the protective casing. And each grinder comes with a key for loosening (tightening) the discs. Is it really so difficult to combine these two devices ??? Even if the key is lost, you can easily turn it off ...
But, guess this secret yourself. The nut is unscrewed in a minute.

I saw also an interesting way, though not quite desirable with respect to the tool: we break off to the maximum everything that remains of the disk, pull the start - and when the shaft almost stops from inertia, press the lock button - everything except the nut is braked. here the main thing is not to overdo it with the revolutions at which to stop. But I think if the machine is experiencing a wedge of the disk, then locking will survive at low speeds.
