How to make a simple tie-in into a steel pipe

In plumbing, as well as household practice, there are often cases when it is necessary to connect to a pipe, to drain water. Say to connect a washing machine. To do this, they usually pull a water pipe or hose to an adjustable manifold, or saw a pipe and install a tee.
In old Soviet houses, pipes are so uncomfortable and awkwardly laid that to connect to them is equivalent to having to sort through the whole system again.
But there is a way! You can make a tie with a clamp in any nearby trunk. So, more details ...

How to make a simple tie-in to a steel pipe with your own hands

What do you need?
  • Drainage (insert) - 1 pc.

You can buy it in plumbing stores, but before that, be sure to specify what kind of pipe you have to which the connection will be made. I took 1/2 inch.
Here's what it looks like:

Now go directly to the connection. First of all, we block the riser and drain the water.
Then we drill a hole with a drill for metal. The diameter of the hole must be equal to or less than the diameter of the insert.

Next, we sandpaper the place to put on the clamp. The surface should be flat, without old paint and rust. We dress the tie-in insert, before that we install the sealed gasket that comes complete with the insert.

Next, carefully tighten the 4 tie-in bolts. It is necessary to twist carefully, alternately, it is better crosswise. This is necessary so that the gasket sits better, but the clamp does not warp.
The box is ready. We connect the necessary hose to it.

Turn on and check for leaks. To do this, I recommend using a paper towel or toilet paper, because drops are immediately visible on it, and the hand of all this may simply not be felt.

Also, after tapping, it will not be superfluous to install a tap before connecting the hose.

In general, such an insert will help you out, it would seem in the most hopeless situations.

The connection can be used for both cold and hot water. In addition, this is a very fast way and sometimes the only possible one.

The author forgot to point out that it is possible to drill, and it is necessary on an already fixed clamp, in this case the sleeve is included in the kit, it rotates freely and firstly directs the drill, and secondly it does not allow the drill to break the clamp.
Very good invention, repeatedly used. True, it is useful to have your own, in addition to the standard gum. Sometimes a slightly defective casting happens, or a pipe with defects ...

You have a 44.4 mm pipe. it is 1 and 3 \ 4 inches (1 inch - 25.4 mm.) This insertion tap should be asked in the store.

Suitable for gas if the pipe is in the ground even on a polyvinyl pipe. A stainless steel faucet is mounted immediately and through a faucet it is drilled under pressure only with a manual scoop so that there is no spark.

To conveniently make an insert under water pressure, you need:
      1. Strip the pipe and install the sidebar.
      2. Install a ball valve on the inset.
      3. Put a reflector on the drill - a rubber disc made of thick hard rubber.
      4. Substitute a container for leaking water.
      5. Drill through an open ball valve until water appears.
      6. When water appears, it will beat into the reflector and drain into the container. Take measures against splashing. Use a low voltage or cordless drill.
      7. When drilling is complete, remove the drill and close the tap immediately.
      8. Profit.

Weakly believe in your story. A ball valve burst on my thread, it’s good that from the other side that comes after the valve. I blocked the water, drove to the store bought a new ball valve. It was at the beginning of the zero, the emergency gates waited two hours. I realized that it was useless. I went to a neighbor and we decided to replace the crane without blocking the riser. You can’t get into the basement. We have only one entrance to the basement for the whole house. I have the first floor, so I was not afraid to flood someone. We prepared a tow, a new tap and let's unscrew the old one from the pipe. In my life I didn’t think what such a strong pressure is in a cold water main. We almost suffocated, the pressure of the water pump apparently squeezed air into the ventilation system. The whole operation took 5-6 seconds, but 40 liters of water ran into the toilet (as the whole wiring was) and the corridor. I can imagine how much water would run if we drilled a hole in the pipe, and then with high pressure we would put on this clamp. Therefore, I do not believe you.
