Very often, homes and workshops require such a simple thing as a press. There are many examples, ranging from home cooking to gluing two surfaces under pressure. I will show and tell you how to make a simple hand press from a car jack.
In my design I will use a classic diamond-shaped jack and a wooden press housing. All this will help me create a force of about 400-500 kg. If you use a metal frame, you can increase the pressure force to 1.5-2 tons. Well, if you use a hydraulic jack with a good metal body, you can achieve a pressure force of about 4-5 tons.
Making a press from a jack
I need four planks with dimensions 30x15x5 cm.
In two of them you need to cut a groove for the sliding parts of the jack. To do this, use a pen or pencil to mark the place for drilling and sawing.
Using a drill with a wide nozzle, make a hole of the required diameter.
Then use a hacksaw or jigsaw to cut out the edges.
The result is a groove like this. Smooth out rough edges and rough edges with sandpaper.
Next, take the jack and drill four holes in its base for screws for fastening.
We screw the jack to the base - one of the two planks without a groove.
For the pressing sole, I take a square from the same board measuring approximately 10x10 cm. And iron for lining it.
We screw the metal part to the bar.
We bend the edges.
We screw the resulting sole to the jack using a metal strip with two holes. It is passed through a jack and screwed to the block with self-tapping screws.
We assemble the entire frame of the press.
We fasten with self-tapping screws, preferably as long as possible.
Then we duplicate it with metal triangles on the sides.
We cover the lower platform with a metal plate to distribute the force more evenly.
The press is ready, you can test it. For gluing I will lay two bars.
An aluminum can can flatten without any problems. I operate the press with a cordless screwdriver. It has reverse, which is very convenient.
A tin can also flattens perfectly.
The toy car turned out to be quite durable.
I think there will definitely be a use for such a design in the household.
