You need only two components to assemble a simple inverter that converts DC 12 V to 220 V AC.
The simplest invert without transistors

Absolutely no expensive or scarce items or parts. Everything can be collected in 5 minutes! You don’t even need to solder! Twisted wire and all.

What is needed for an inverter?

  • Transformer from the receiver, tape recorder, center, etc. One winding network 220 V, the other 12 V.
  • Relays for 12 V. Such a lot are used where.
  • Wires to connect.
  • Light bulb load.

Inverter assembly

It all comes down to connecting the relay and transformer as follows. First of all, we put a load in the form of an LED bulb on the transformer's network winding - this will be the output of the inverter.
Then we connect the low-voltage winding in parallel with the relay. Now one contact goes to power to the battery, and the second is connected to another contact of the battery, but only through a closed relay contact. Plus or minus does not matter.

All! Your inverter is ready! Super easy!
We connect to the battery - it is in our role as a 12 V source and the 220 V lamp starts to glow. In this case, you hear the squeak of the relay.

How does this inverter work?

Everything is very simple: when you connect the power, all the voltage goes through the closed contacts on the relay. The relay trips and the contacts open. As a result, the relay power is turned off and it brings the contacts back to closed. As a result, the cycle repeats. And since a step-up transformer is connected in parallel with the relay, powerful pulses of constant on-off are supplied to it and converted into alternating high-voltage current. The frequency of such a converter ranges from 60-70 Hz.
Of course, such an inverter is not durable - sooner or later the relay will fail, but it’s not a pity - it costs a penny or even free if you take the old one. And the output voltage according to the nature of the current and the spread is just awful. But this simple converter can help you out in any serious situation.

I wonder how long such a scheme will work ?!
As soon as I remember, at the exhibition I was making some kind of poster scheme, just on the reels, something like running lights, something they showed beautiful there. And just when the exhibition is already on - these relays stop working :( In general, it turned out that during the long-term operation of the SOVIET relays with SILVER contacts there was no more than a day! They simply burned out the contacts from switching high currents and for replacement. So, the next time the head had to look for thyristors in short supply at that time;)

Wrong relay selected. At our work, many people made running lights on the RES-6 relay, several NGs (New Goal) worked.

Do not confuse this pattern with Christmas lights. Here, the contacts will fade from inductive load switching and a high switching frequency. Of course, vibration transducers were used in battery-powered tube technology - but these were not ordinary relays, but specially designed devices.

What kind of inverter is this? The usual "vibrator"; about the same, only in sealed "vacuum" cases, stood in portable army "shoulder" tube radio stations. The response frequency is determined by the stiffness of the return spring.
In the presence of oxygen, the contacts of any relay quickly burn out.

you need to connect a conder of the order of 0.01-0.1 microfarad parallel to the contacts, the contacts will last longer, according to the principle of operation of the old car tramler

For the first time I met with such a contraption in the army. In the GAZ 66 with a gasoline heater kunga to ignite the mixture from a conventional car candle. The principle of converting DC voltage is the same, only in place of the light bulb - increasing the secondary winding of the coil with an exit to the candle. The primary winding did not last long - the relay stuck, but in the conditions of the landfill it was restored from improvised spare parts. A vacuum relay will work better.

why they stuck to the relay, judging by the P transformer on the secondary 12v * 0.2A = 2.4W, we will get even less on the primary, taking into account losses, as I understand the author connected the lamp to the primary, there are 220, although it will actually be less. WHAT IS THIS LAMP LIGHTING FOR? first, the LED is on the photo, and the incandescent lamp is lit and far from 2 watts ... Zadolbali the Internet litter with an extension cord, then with a magnet 3 turns prov. the lamp shines, etc. garbage men !!!
