After watching all kinds of beauty on TV and reading about this beauty on the Internet, I decided to try to create something similar with my own hands. I really liked the things made in the “crazy vul” style. For those who are not yet familiar with this, I will say that it looks very interesting, unusual and beautiful. You can’t immediately determine how or what it’s made of. And this is done from knitting threads, as they say, easily and simply.

If it’s easy and simple, why not try it. Moreover, I knit, and I have plenty of leftover threads that have nowhere to use. To master this technique, in addition to threads of different textures, you also need soluble interlining. Unfortunately, I didn't have it. After searching all over the Internet, I found out that this material is not cheap, and we don’t have it in the city. You can buy it in an online store, but is it worth spending the money, what if it doesn’t work out….
Wise advisers wrote that this same non-woven fabric could be replaced with ordinary newspapers. Try, try, but with minimal costs. Moreover, free advertising newspapers are often put into boxes.
Since it’s a stunningly beautiful autumn, I decided to create a scarf in autumn colors. To make my dream come true, I prepared the following:
  • several newspapers;
  • remnants of threads of different types, thicknesses, textures;
  • pieces of crinkled green-orange fabric (I just decided to add autumn leaves to the scarf);
  • regular and zigzag scissors;
  • cleaving needles;
  • Polish for hair;
  • beige sewing threads;
  • sewing machine

Since I don’t have a long table, I simply laid out the newspapers on the floor, slightly overlapping each other. I got a rectangle measuring 40 by 200 cm.

On this backing I began to randomly lay out my threads, unwinding them from the ball. For each new layer I took a ball of different threads. After four layers of thread I decided to sketch out the leaves.

I simply cut them out with zigzag scissors in the form of ovals. You can also use ordinary scissors, the difference will be completely invisible.

Having cut out and thrown silk leaves onto the laid out threads, I covered them with four more layers of thread. This is what has already happened.
To secure it, I sprayed the entire structure with varnish and covered it with a layer of newspaper. I connected everything together with tailor's needles. Carefully rolled the resulting “sandwich” into a roll. She took it to the sewing machine to quilt.
I decided to start stitching with cross stitches, but it turned out to be inconvenient: the newspapers were torn, the needles fell out. But “...if I decide to do something, I’ll definitely drink it...”

I adapted to stitching around the perimeter in a spiral, making the distance between lines approximately 1 cm. This was much more convenient. As we got closer to the center of the piece, sewing became easier. When the entire structure was quilted lengthwise, I began to make lines across. It was much easier to sew, since the workpiece had acquired contours and strengthened.I began to do transverse stitches less frequently, every 2 cm.
It took me almost three hours to stitch the scarf. My hands barely washed off the printing ink. I was already glad that the worst was over, but that was not the case. The newspapers were tightly sewn and did not want to fall behind at all. The prospect of picking out newspapers did not excite me at all.
Then I simply put the ill-fated scarf in a basin and filled it with warm water.
Half an hour later I decided to check how my creation was doing. The newspapers got wet, but did not fall behind. I began to rub the scarf, as if washing. Things got better, the newspapers began to lag behind a little. Then I shook this scarf over the bathtub, littering everything around with scraps of newspaper. Then she sat still, picking out the soggy remains of the newspapers with her hands. After rinsing the scarf again, I hung it up to dry.

The result still satisfied me. If we take into account the minimum costs, then we can say that the result is not bad. Scarf available. The “crazy vul” method has been tested with minimal expenditure of funds (it’s a pity that with maximum expenditure of effort, but what can you do...).
After my “test of the pen” I want to share the following:
  • don’t believe anyone who says that newspapers are easy and simple;
  • do not use light-colored threads, they get dirty with black paint and are difficult to wash;
  • do not think that this is a quick way to create things using this technique (although, of course, it is much faster than knitting);
  • finished items become somewhat smaller;
  • keep at it, you will succeed!

After my first (perhaps not entirely successful) experience, I now want to master this technique even more, only with non-woven fabric. I'm running to buy.
