In the offerings of furniture stores you can find tables of various designs, but anyone who knows the difference between a screwdriver and a chisel can quite independently make an original coffee table with their own hands. What is needed for this? First of all, the material from which the table, tools, fasteners, rollers, and tape measure will be made. Our table will be made on the basis of laminated chipboard sheets or from the waste of an old wall that has served its purpose.
We come up with the appearance of our table and draw a sketch. Better yet, make a drawing right away so that all dimensions can be seen.Our table will consist of an upper and lower lid, fastened with side walls, and in the middle there will be a shelf for small items (it also serves as a spacer to enhance the strength of the structure). With dimensions, everything is strictly individual, but do not forget that a coffee table cannot be the size of a dining table. The top cover of the table in the example will be 65 cm long and 45 cm wide.
Accordingly, the bottom cover will have dimensions of 55x35 cm. The projection of the side wall support is 20 cm. The length and width of the middle shelf are 46 and 20 cm. The height of the table is taken to be 45 cm excluding rollers. Confirmats, furniture plastic and metal corners will be used as fasteners.
We mark on the stove the dimensions of the top and bottom lids, sides and middle shelf. Then, using a jigsaw, we cut out the drawn parts along the marked lines. The chipboard surface has a high tendency to chip, so we must try to reduce the influence of various factors on this process. The jigsaw file should have the smallest tooth, and the speed regulator on the tool should be set to position 0. However, even with such measures taken, chips and burrs may still appear, so after sawing you need to go through the cuts with a rasp, moving the tool only “from yourself” " When sawing the sidewalls, it is better to use clamps and pull both slabs “face” inward. This way we will get absolutely identical parts. This way we get all the blanks for our table.
Next we need to assemble the middle part of the table. In order not to spoil the parts, we will first mark and drill all the necessary holes, and then do preliminary assembly.Place the sides vertically (for alignment) and measure the middle; the middle shelf will be attached along this line. We drill 2 holes along the line for confirmations. If you don’t have a special drill, you can use three ordinary ones - for the threaded part, for the thickening and for the head. To ensure that the holes are at the same distance, and, accordingly, the middle is aligned, you need to fold both sides and drill them at the same time. After this, you need to do the same operation with the shelf itself, making holes in its ends (be sure to try it on the sides).
After preliminary assembly of the middle and assessment of the correctness of the actions, you can proceed to the next stage. Now you need to paste over the ends of the parts with a decorative edge (it is sold in any construction supermarket). To do this you will need a heated iron. We apply the edge with the adhesive side to the end and carefully iron it with a hot iron. We make sure that no voids form under the edge. If the width of the decorative ribbon is greater than the width of the end, then use a wallpaper knife to cut off the excess and clean the cuts with fine sandpaper.
The next step is to attach the middle to the bottom and top covers. We place the middle part exactly in the middle of the upper surface of the lower cover. Here you need to carefully measure the distances from the edges so that there is no displacement. We use furniture corners as fasteners, which are attached to the parts with self-tapping screws. We do the same with the top cover.
Now we just need to screw the rollers. On the lower surface of the bottom cover we mark places for installation, maintaining the same distances, and using self-tapping screws we strengthen the rollers.All that remains is to close the confirmation caps with decorative caps and put the table in its place.
Without spending a lot of effort, without looking for a suitable model in stores and without spending the family budget, you can quite easily make a coffee table yourself.
