Making a wicker fence

An excellent option for fencing a summer cottage is a wicker fence. The first advantage of this option is that it is an economical fence. Of course, you can buy ready-made material, but if you live in an area where there is a lot of tree growth, then you will not have to invest in it. And the second advantage of this fence is beauty. This type of fencing has a rustic style, which is very suitable for summer cottages where you just come to relax or barbecue.

So, in order to make such a fence, you will need to prepare material. The most favorable time for this is the end of spring. It will be easier for you to prepare branches for the fence if they are without leaves. In addition, it is better to use fresh plants rather than dry ones so that they bend well and do not break.

First, pillars are driven into the ground. You can use wider branches for them. To make it easier to drive them into the ground, you can sharpen the edge of the post with an ax, making a peg out of it.

It is convenient to use a sledgehammer to hammer in the posts.

The pillars are driven in at the same level in increments of no more than one meter.Although there are no specific rules, you decide what step to take between the posts. The deeper the fence posts are driven in, the better. To ensure a strong structure, it is recommended to drive the support pillars at least 40 cm deep.

After all the posts are installed, you can begin weaving the fence. To do this, thinner branches are taken and wrapped around the pillars with a snake. The option shown in the illustration is the most common and simple. Here you need to intertwine the columns with branches one by one. Each subsequent row is intertwined in a mirror image of the previous row.






If the length of the fence exceeds the length of the weaving rods, then it is recommended to do everything sequentially. For example, your fence should be 10 meters long and your bars are approximately 2 meters long. In this case, it will be more efficient and beautiful to first go through the first row along the entire length of the fence, installing 5 rods of 2 meters each, and then proceed to the second row. If you first completely remove 2 meters of the fence, then two more, etc., these fragments will be visible, since there will be no smooth weave. In addition, it is much more beautiful when rods of approximately the same thickness are used.
These fences can be of different heights. These can be low fences to fence an alley with flowers, or to separate beds. Also, such fences can be used as the main fencing of summer cottages, recreation areas, or even street cafes.
