The main materials you can’t do without are:
- Rigid cardboard (for example, packaging for blankets, curtains)
- Fabrics of various colors and textures
- Ribbons, ruffles, lace
- Foamiran
- Beads, rings
- Foam rubber or synthetic winterizer
- Threads with a needle, glue gun.
The book will have 4 pages, and the inner ones can be immediately covered with fabric, such as flannelette.
It is not necessary to sew the fabric - it can be secured with glue. This will make it faster and without seams.
To make the book covers soft, first glue them only with padding polyester. We will do the cladding at the end of the work.
We cover the inner surface of the cover with colored fabric. We sew along the perimeter.
Now the most interesting part is the interior of the first room. This is a living room and will have a sofa, a TV and a large window.
1. Window. From white foamiran we cut out a rectangle 5*12 cm, from gray – 3 thin strips 5*0.3 cm. To decorate the curtains we prepare a rectangle from guipure fabric (tulle), and 2 rectangles from thick fabric (curtains).
2. TV.From black foamiran we cut out a 5*10 cm rectangle and legs of any shape. We prepare a picture screen of a suitable size.
3. Sofa. You will need rectangular blanks made of woolen fabric, rectangles of cardboard (for the back and seat), and padding polyester for stuffing the sofa.
Let's make the sofa voluminous. To do this, we lay padding polyester on the cardboard, cover it with fabric on top, securing it with a glue gun.
In general, all the details of the house are miniature, so there is no need to draw patterns or measure anything with a centimeter tape. In our case, everything was done by eye, and the glue gun will perfectly hide all the errors.
We make the side backs of the sofa from rectangles of fabric, padding polyester and circles of dense brown fabric. We sew the rectangle along its length, stuff it with padding polyester (foam rubber) and seal it with a circle of brown fabric, also sewing it in a circle.
We assemble the sofa right away on the spot - first glue the seat, then the back and sides.
When the book is closed, the back of the sofa will lean back, and when opened, it will straighten.
We glue the remaining details to the first page - a TV, a window with curtains. You can make paintings from foamiran and hang them on the sides of the window. We put a pot with a plant near the sofa. We simply cut out the pot from fabric or leatherette and glue it. And we embroider the plant with green floss threads.
We make a chandelier in the same way - we cut out a hemisphere from the material, glue it, and attach a guipure ribbon along the lower edge.
You can lay a rug in front of the sofa. It can be cut from a suitable material, or it can be knitted.
Let's move on to the second room - the bedroom. A bed, chest of drawers, and wardrobe will be placed here.
1. Bed.We prepare a square from cardboard, fabric, padding polyester. For a blanket - a square of fabric and padding polyester, as well as a diamond to imitate a duvet cover. For the pillow - padding polyester, lace and fabric of any shape.
We make the bed itself in the same way as a sofa - we cover the cardboard with fabric, placing padding polyester between them. We fasten the fabric with glue. We sew the blanket with threads, sew on a diamond of colored fabric, and attach a lace braid along the contour. We also make the pillow softly stuffed and decorate it with lace.
2. Wardrobe. You need 2 pieces of cardboard and leatherette for the doors. Another 1 square of leatherette will be used for the interior arrangement of the cabinet.
We cover the cardboard doors with material and glue all the edges.
We make a crossbar for hangers from a cotton swab. Hangers can be made from paper clips by bending them appropriately using pliers.
We glue a piece of thick foil onto one of the doors, imitating a mirror.
3. Dresser. Glue the fabric rectangle to the background. We embroider the drawers and handles on the chest of drawers with thread.
We glue all the interior parts.
We lay a knitted rug near the bed.
Let's build a bathroom. Here you can put a bathtub, a washing machine and all kinds of shelves with bathroom accessories.
1. Bath. We will first draw a bathtub on foamiran and then cut it out. We also cut out the legs of the bathtub. Cut a small piece from the blue fabric for the curtain.
2. Washing machine. We cut out a square from foam rubber or thick foamiran and make a hole in the center. We also cut out the washing machine door of the appropriate size and buttons.
3. We build shelves for the bathroom from the same foamiran. We hang towels and a robe for the doll on hooks (diamonds made of foamiran).
We furnish the bathtub, gluing all the parts in the right order.We string the curtain on a fishing line. We sew the ends of the fishing line for maximum reliability.
We embroider the shower and taps in the bathroom with floss threads.
The fourth room is the kitchen. We will place here a refrigerator, a dining table with chairs, a gas stove, cabinets and a window.
1. Refrigerator. We cut out all the details from foamiran. We choose any form. We will make the internal shelves from strips of foamiran, the ends of which will be glued and the center is free.
From the same material you can cut out the contents of the refrigerator - fruits, pots, jars.
Glue the parts of the refrigerator. Doors, glue only on one edge so that they open and close.
2. Table and chairs. Draw the shape of the chairs on the fabric and cut it out. For the table we will prepare a square of cardboard and colored material.
We cover the cardboard with colored fabric and secure it with glue, and glue lace braid around the perimeter.
To make the table more voluminous and not “lie on the floor,” we put 2 more layers of cardboard under it and, gluing all the layers, glue the table to the floor. We secure chairs on both sides of the table, also with glue.
3. Gas stove. We cut out a rectangle from white foamiran, make the oven door and levers from black foamiran.
There will be a kitchen cabinet next to the stove. It will be made from the same material.
4. The window and window closet are made in the same way as the previous window for the living room and closet for the bedroom.
Inside the window sill cabinet, we construct shelves in the form of pockets, where you can later put various items.
Next we will furnish the toilet. This room will contain a toilet, a bucket, a washbasin, a mirror, and shelves.
1. Toilet and washbasin. On white foamiran, first draw a toilet, then cut it out, cut out the lid and drain tank separately. We also draw and cut out the washbasin and faucet.
The cut out parts can be immediately glued to the background.
2. Mirror. Everyone in their home has a mirror from an old powder compact or blush. For the frame, we apply the mirror to the foamiran, outline and cut along a line 2 mm larger than the drawn one. We also cut out a circle in the center of the circle. We will need the resulting ring.
We glue the mirror above the washbasin, put a ring on top, and glue it. We hang 2 square napkins next to the mirror.
3. Shelf with accessories. Cut out a rectangle from leatherette. You can sew pockets on it. We cut out tubes and jars of arbitrary shape from foamiran.
You can build a roll of toilet paper, a chandelier, a false window. We make all accessories according to the principle already described.
The last room is the hallway. We'll put a sofa, a chest of drawers and a wardrobe here.
1. Dresser. We will prepare a rectangle from dense fabric, and strips 2-3 mm wide from dark leatherette.
On the chest of drawers there will be a vase (we will also make it from leatherette or fabric) and a telephone (we draw 3 parts on foamiran - a trapezoid, a tube and a white circle).
We glue all the blanks: first the chest of drawers itself; We glue strips along its perimeter and along the contour of the boxes; We attach the vase and telephone.
2. Wardrobe. We make it the same way as a bedroom wardrobe - from cardboard and fabric.
We will place the entrance door next to the closet.
3. Sofa. It can be made according to the principle of a living room sofa, or the back and sides can be made from foamiran. They will also lie down when the book is closed, and rise when opened.
We will place rugs in front of the door and sofa. You can cut out boots from black leatherette and glue them to the inside wall of the closet or just near the door.
The furnishings of the apartment are complete.
Let's start tiling the house. Cut a rectangle from the colored fabric that matches the size of the outer surface of the book.Glue the fabric to the covers, stretching it and tucking the edges inward. At the folded areas, we additionally stitch the fabric.
We attach ribbons to the first and last pages - they will tie and keep the book assembled.
Let's decorate the face of the house. We place a door cut from a plain fabric on the glue. It can be square or semicircular. We sew thick braid and beaded handles along the contour.
We place 2 windows above the door. We also cover them along the contour with colored tape.
You can hang a flashlight near the door. We make it from brown fabric, and we simulate the light emanating from it with yellow threads.
All that remains is to hide all the seams and imperfections at home. To do this, we stock up on a large number of ribbons 5 mm wide and glue them along the entire contour of the house, along the perimeter of each room, on the fold lines of the book, both outside and inside.
On the last cover page we will make a balcony. We select a plain fabric for it so that the design does not blend into the background. Glue a rectangular piece of fabric into a pocket so that the doll can be placed in it. We design window openings, contours and curtains on the balcony as desired.
The book house is ready! This craft will be a great gift for your beloved daughter, just don’t forget to place a doll of the appropriate size in the house.
