Cosmetic bag from an old skirt

All women have things that simply gather dust on the shelves, take up a precious place in the closets and never run the risk of “going out again”. It seems to be a pity to get rid of them, but, at the same time, it’s nowhere to apply especially and nowhere. The only option for using such a wardrobe is needlework. From such an unnecessary skirt, for example, this cute cosmetic bag is sewn.

A big plus of using such a thing is the presence of all the necessary components in one person. There is a finishing material, lining fabric and a zipper.

The first step is to work with the finishing material. This skirt combines light chiffon and dense black cotton fabric. The dark, graceful chiffon with bright red irises will become the very front trim that we will deal with in the first place.

We cut out two identical rectangles, the sides of which are aligned with a ruler, fitting them under each other.

Next, we sew together the bottom and sides of the bag, leaving the upper sides free.

Now they will simply be processed (tuck the edges and secure with a notched seam).

According to the same principle, we sew the inside, only in size the lining should be slightly smaller than the finish itself, because it will still need to be placed inside.

If the upper edges of the chiffon blank were tucked in, then when stitching the lining of them (and, in general, all seams), they should be brought to the front of the product. It is this side of it that will be hidden by the decor, but the inside, on the contrary, will become the “face” of our cosmetic bag.

Since both fabrics do not have increased strength and are not able to hold their shape well, any seal must be placed between them. It can be a piece of dermatin, thin plastic (from a folder for papers, for example), cardboard or even linoleum.

We put the fabric sides of the zipper between the two parts of the cosmetic bag and sew along the entire outer edge of the cosmetic bag.

Carefully remove the basting, and then proceed to the creation of additional parts. For greater convenience, a mini-bag can be ennobled with a pen (take a finished pen from an old wallet or clutch and sew it with our finishing cloth), as well as decorate the clasp with all kinds of trinkets, trinkets, and beads.


In this case, the clasp is decorated with a small chain with an artificial precious stone in the center and rhinestones.


The cosmetic bag turned out not only bright and original, but also light, roomy and neat.
