do-it-yourself darts

Last weekend, in order to entertain my son (well, it’s not boring to spend time myself), breaking my head for a short while, I made a mini dart, which, as a child, I made, probably almost everyone, just like me. Well, those who did not make such a simple (in manufacturing) toy in childhood. They will be able to make it, (without the suspicious looks of others, with thoughts of the mental retardation of the person who made it). Only when their offspring grows up to an acceptable age. In order not to accidentally damage anything to himself and the people around him (peacefully walking nearby and not suspecting the threat looming over him). After all, safety, first of all.
And so, to make a mini dart I needed:
  • Nippers.
  • Scissors.
  • Ballpoint pen (for marking) because there was no notebook in the cage.
  • Ruler (for the same reason).
  • Sewing thread, (ordinary).
  • Matches (more or less even specimens) are desirable with small heads and no defects (otherwise it will badly affect the flight characteristics and the trajectory of our future mini-rocket).
  • A needle, not a big one (a large one, it will just be necessary to grind or add cargo).
  • Paper, (in my case, a fragment of wallpaper due to the absence of a notebook at the moment).
  • Copper wire, not very thick, otherwise there will be difficulties with winding, moreover, there is a high probability of breaking the matches, not very thin (you are tormented to wind). I have 0.4 millimeters (it seems like just right).

You can do without it. But since the weight of the finished product is not large, its flight range leaves much to be desired, in general, not as far as we would like, it almost does not penetrate the target and the flight path is almost unpredictable. For starters, I made the body of the rocket, took four matches in one hand with my second hand, pushed the needle in the middle with the sharp end out, with my third hand began to wind the rope, the joke, of course, coped with both hands. After winding lightly, he fixed the rope, slipping it between the matches and putting the body aside, he proceeded to the next stage.

This stage is actually in the manufacture of the wings of a throwing weapon (no matter how funny it may sound, but it is). The dart is a weapon (throwing), it is a spear, although somewhat lightweight and reduced, when compared with spears for hand-to-hand or horse fighting (usually having a total length of up to one and a half meters). For the convenience of throwing it is balanced (accordingly). As weapons (hunting) and combat, they were used by troops of many countries of the world and peoples, already starting from antiquity. Permanent use (as weapons) was recorded in the twentieth century. In ancient Russia, they were called villages. Darts are also called throwing arrows (short) for a game called darts.
And so, at first I marked and cut out the paper in the form of a square.

Then, using tricky manipulations, he turned it into an isosceles triangle, then still, again and again, in general, look at the photo.

After the wings are ready, I put the body of the future dart on the wings.

After that, mooting and fixing the thread (as described above), burning with a desire to test faster, he threw it on the wall of the house sheathed with fiberboard. Expectations did not come true, he was still damp (his weight was not enough to overcome sailing, I thought). My decision was made to rectify the situation at any cost. Of the numerous engineering ideas that arose while it fell to the floor, the most suitable for a particular type of aircraft was chosen.
1) Reduce the windage by cutting off parts of the wings (he immediately seemed suspicious and not beautiful to me).

2) Increase the weight of the bow, adding to the same significant increase in aerodynamic resistance to air. This was achieved by winding copper wire onto matches with a needle, without forgetting about a smooth transition. Having played enough and received a mass of unforgettable minutes of happiness from having fun with the child, there was an attempt to extend the pleasure through modernization in order to attract the child's subsiding attention. He implemented the idea using the magical transformation of the dart into a rocket by partially amputating the tail of the dart.

The result of the surgical intervention was won another half hour. And the rocket landed safely (though with the bow) on the surface of the wall, where it sows day and arrives. I wish everyone who has children the same pleasant and unique moments in life. I advise you to use the time when they are still small, because they will also grow up into small, primitive toys, and it will not be possible to evoke the same emotions in them that are close to a state of euphoria.

I love darts - a cool game. According to the scheme described here, made a dart. Interestingly, it flies perfectly and right on target)))).
