Good day. Starting to get involved in numismatics and graying the three of us with a coin and a magnifying glass for a large amount of time (while discovering that one pupil is larger than the other seems to be already chronically), I decided to return their natural charm by remaking the ultra-modern phone under a magnifying glass. This device is called HTC beats audio (of course, China). Being on the verge of disposal, (reasons: the battery almost does not hold a charge, but it is difficult to find the same, and the phone is so-so), he did not resist the alteration. Before the photo shoot, the device wished to undergo a cleaning and disinfection procedure. (if in two words, rubbed with alcohol). There he is.

Magnifier

From the tools I needed:
Scissors, a folding knife, tweezers (or a device for manipulating small objects that are impossible, inconvenient, undesirable or dangerous to take with unprotected hands) and a dental shovel (very convenient to pick).

Magnifier

From the materials necessary for me (turned up by the arm):
Self-tapping screws, as you see the roofing ones themselves, are found, as a rule, on the roof (neighbors are even better).

Magnifier

Double-sided tape.

Let's start vandalism. What I liked about this phone is that it’s a minimum of alterations. All the manipulations carried out with her took less than thirty minutes, and the result exceeded all expectations, so to speak, but you can evaluate it yourself at the end of the article by looking at a few photos.
And so I open the battery cover.

Magnifier

I pick out the poorly glued and low-quality plastic protection of the camera lens with a knife. Naturally observing the safety technique itself, so as not to chop your limbs, and I think the polished surface of the optics should not be damaged, so as not to look at a continuous muddy spot.

Magnifier

Then I very carefully pulled out with a pair of tweezers and a dental spatula and began to twist the lens with its body from the base of the camera, to my surprise it was not fixed, as is usually the case, with a drop of glue (or maybe it is not glue).

Magnifier

If it was glued, then I would have to disassemble the phone, in general, I was very lucky. Closing the lid back and adjusting the focus, he is almost an almost finished magnifying device.

Magnifier

But considering that it would not be convenient to consider anything, holding his (sometimes shaking, joke) hands decided to set the phone on its feet. I also decided that I would not hurt myself very much with these legs, and did not. Using double-sided tape, I glued the washers to the lid, which were easily torn from the screws. It was possible in another way and with other washers, but as I wrote, I wanted to quickly, and the screws fell under the (hot) hand.

I adjusted the height (for viewing coins) by additionally attaching double-sided tape, in my case the optimal amount was three layers of double-sided tape for each washer, but I adjusted the focus setting by twisting it with “the lens itself”. Well, a few photos that are made by the finished device. Fifty kopecks coin St. Petersburg Mint (picture taken with a 5 megapixel digital camera).

He is but only through the finished (magnifier) shot on a digital camera.

Coin ten kopecks of the Moscow Mint through a telephone with a digital camera.

He just photographed, directly redone apparatus.

Again a dozen.

Sugar crystals on a ten penny coin.

I didn’t do the backlighting, but I think with the right backlighting the quality of the photos would be much better. It says on the cover that the phone’s camera is five megapixels (I don’t believe it), by the way, you can compare it with a digital camera by five megapixels.

For the test, he even decided to sacrifice hair, hair pulled from his head, lost and again mercilessly torn out.

Calipers.

Magnifier

Vernier caliper scale.

Magnifier

I noticed that when you photograph everything is as if smaller, for example, the vernier caliper scale (in the photo below), the same photo on the screen of the magnifying phone looks different, only two millimeters full width fit on the screen, in other words, the increase is much larger.

Magnifier

Although I did not pursue the maximum magnification (then the article would be called a microscope from china). But I needed a simple, very quickly made device, just for examining coins and by means of visual comparison, to filter out the ordinary and doubtful ones to send to a personal computer and consider various programs that can work with photos and can superimpose the image on top of each other.
And a few more photos. Paste from a gel pen with a thin tip.

The tip is from him.

And mikruha from her.

I believe that such a magnifying glass will be very useful and interesting to many. It’s better for children not to show it, otherwise you run the risk of being left without a tool (they’ll take it away, they don’t even ask the manufacturer’s name), which happened to him (barely strayed).

BIG thanks for the idea and implementation option.
If you tried or can tell me the idea of how to make an easily portable "microscope" from a small webcam but there 2MP. it’s just that you sometimes need to poke around at tricky angles and you can’t always stick the cellphone case in there
