There are many recipes for salt dough, probably as many as the craftswomen involved in this type of creativity. The simplest and most basic recipe we will follow is:
• One and a half cups of flour;
• Half a glass of dry starch (pre-mixed with flour);
• A glass of salt;
• Incomplete glass of water, approximately 180 ml.
Of course, depending on the grinding of salt, the consistency may change, you can add flour, water or salt to the eye. The dough should turn out quite steep and not stick to your hands. Pre-dissolve the salt in hot water as much as possible.
When working with the test, you need to do everything quickly so that it does not have time to weather and crust. If the dough is too dry or cracks appear, you can smooth it with a little water with your hands or with a wooden stick.
Next, the dough must be put in a bag and placed for 5-10 minutes in the freezer.
Turn on the oven 180 degrees so that it warms up.
So, we knead the dough. We will free the workplace from unnecessary items and proceed to modeling.
Next, you need to choose the toy you want to sculpt. I sculpted a big-horned lamb based on a Dymkovo toy. This one:
We begin to sculpt. We separated part of the dough for horns and covered these parts with a plastic bag so that the dough is not weathered until we need it.
Since our lamb does not have hind legs, and there is only a tail like a whistle, we made a kind of droplet from the dough. The sharp tip of the droplet is the tail, from the blunt tip we form the front paws, the head.
From the remnants of the dough we form horns and attach them in two places: below and on the head. You can optionally fashion a small beard on the figure, immediately make indentations where the eyes will be.
At the bottom of the lamb, I made a depression, but in the process of roasting it smoothed out.
Next, we fry the figure in the oven.
The figure cools down.
Getting to the coloring. First we make the lamb white background with watercolor paints or gouache. It is important to wait for one side to dry completely, proceeding to colorize the other.
Then gradually paint the toys according to the model, or show imagination. It is important to colorize the light parts first, and then the dark ones, so as not to smear them in the process. To paint the places located close to each other, you need to wait for complete drying.
At the end of the work, you can cover the figure with any furniture varnish. The colors will sparkle even brighter.
