Tin can cooler

Theoretically, the cause of overheating of the hard drive could be a low-quality power supply. Or rather, an overestimation or drop in voltage on the +12 volt bus. Even a small deviation from the nominal value can subject the electronics to unnecessary stress. After some simple manipulations with the tester, it turned out that this does not threaten us. The voltage drop at full load did not exceed 0.3 volts. Crossing myself and mentally praising the Nienschanz company for its professionalism, I reached into my magic bag. Ten minutes later, an express cooler for the hard drive was ready from a GEMBIRD DL-39 fan, a piece of thin sheet metal and a connector from a burnt CD drive. By analogy with existing factory designs, the fan cools the hard drive from below (or from above). The air flow is discharged from the front and rear thanks to the tin casing. I think further comments are unnecessary.

To reduce noise from the computer, I switched the fan to 5 volts. As a result, the temperature of the hard drive dropped noticeably, which was what needed to be proven. I am sure that this simple design will be able to extend the life of the hard drive and will contribute to the stable operation of the computer. And my friend and I will only meet on a pleasant occasion.

Isn’t it easier to put the cooler in its regular place and cool it, and if the cooler is old, then use plastic ties to place it in the right place at the right angle. Well done! for trying, but take the advice, the simpler the better.

A cooler on a hard drive will kill the same hard drive due to rapid temperature changes. You need to use airflow (cooler in the front of the system unit)
Search the Internet for this issue.

Isn’t it better to buy a good power supply and not put the screw and other computer components at risk?
