We cut our blanks according to the diagram. The upper and lower parts must be made from the same workpiece (have a common cut). If you have a circular saw, you can make cuts at any angle. It is also necessary to cut off the membrane, which will make it difficult to install the cartridge.
Drilling holes and tapping threads. Then we put both parts of the lampshade next to each other and mark with a pencil on the side edge the places for the side fastenings. And we transfer the risk to the end part. Mark the center - this will be the axis of our hole. We will connect the upper and lower parts of the lampshade using M6 studs. Let's try to do without a tap.We drill a hole with a drill 5 mm with a depth of 10 mm, necessary for the movement of the pin. We cut the thread with an M6 bolt using pliers. Since wood is a fairly soft material, there are no problems. To connect the elements together, we will prepare 4 studs 60 mm long.
Since we have a side light lamp, the light bulb must be located between the upper and lower elements of the lampshade. Therefore, before you start connecting the lampshade to the wall part, you need to decide on the location of the lower mounting pin, which in our case is also the basis for the socket. This distance is different for incandescent lamps and energy-saving lamps. The distance between the upper and lower pins is 30-40 mm. The power wires will pass between the studs; it is also necessary to make holes for them. We make a hole in the wall element for the dowel.
Surface treatment. After the preparatory work, the workpieces must be sanded - remove the top layer of wood to show the structure of the wood. To do this we will use a sander. We will use sandpaper with a grain size from 200 to 40 microns for final polishing. We cover the bamboo with stain on the outside, and paint on the inside, and let it dry. Before applying the varnish, you can apply any ornament or design using a burner or paints. We open it with varnish in 2 layers.
Assembly. After twisting the lampshade, we wrap the pins with tow or loose linen rope using PVA. We fix the cartridge on the stud and center it using nuts. We remove the wires from the lampshade. Screw the wall part.
Installation. We drill a hole 6mm, insert a plastic dowel, pass the power wires through the hole through the wall part of the sconce.We match the holes and drive the screw into the dowel or tighten it with a flexible screwdriver. We twist the wires and insulate them. We wrap tow on the studs, covering the fastenings and wiring.
The cost of materials for 2 sconces is comparable to the price of one bamboo lamp in the store, while there will still be more bamboo left for more than one fake. Don’t be afraid to experiment: you can make truly exclusive things with your own hands.
