The hobby of young parents to keep objects associated with their children as souvenirs is as old as time. Probably, as an adult, each of us was shown by our mother a tiny tuft of hair left over from our first haircut, or vague scribbles - a masterpiece drawn by our beloved child. Life does not stand still; progressive manufacturers of children's goods offer new inventions to capture the growing up of the baby. Such an innovation is a set for handprints and heel prints of babies, but such entertainment costs a lot of money. The master class offers a much less expensive option - making a panel with your own hands.
To ensure that the process of creating an impression takes as little time as possible, it is recommended to prepare all materials in advance.

prepare all materials

To prepare the dough you will need:
- flour – 1.5 tbsp.
- finely ground salt “Extra” - 1 tbsp.
- vegetable oil – 2 tsp.
- water – 1/3 tbsp.
We will also prepare a deep plate, a tablespoon, a cutting board to roll out the dough and foil for baking.
To design the finished panel we take:
- paints – preferably acrylic, so that the finished product can be touched.Gouache remains on the hands, and watercolor has weak covering power;
- brushes – let one brush be wide, for priming and applying a background coating. The second is narrow, for decoration.
The flight of fancy in design is unlimited; you can decorate it with glitter glue or nail polish, rhinestones, shells, etc.
Let's start kneading the dough.
The first stage is to pour salt into a dish with flour. Please note that it is better to use fine salt; coarse salt will result in a rough product.

Next, stir the salt and flour into a homogeneous mass. This will make it easier to knead the finished dough.

mix salt and flour

Then we make a hole in the flour and salt, and gradually pour warm water into it, in which 2 teaspoons of vegetable oil are diluted. It’s more pleasant to knead the dough with butter, as it will stick together better, and the water needs to be warm so that the butter dissolves better.

After kneading the elastic (this is important) dough in a dish, place it on a cutting board, knead it properly, roll it into a thick sausage, and divide it into two equal parts.

Knead the elastic dough

Knead each part again. The thickness of one figure should be 1.5 - 2 cm.

We place both pieces of dough on the foil so that they do not stick together in the process, and press the baby’s hand and heel against them in turn. The edges must be shaped immediately before baking.

The edges need to be shaped

After these funny manipulations, carefully transfer the foil with the panel into the oven. It is important that the dough does not crack, does not burn, and is baked through. Choose a medium oven temperature - it’s better to bake longer, but with better quality. We process rough edges with a regular nail file (in the photo the sides of the palm are polished, but the feet are not).

decoration

The most interesting part is the decoration. Using a large brush, remove the sanding dust and prime the workpieces with white acrylic.Don't overdo it, because... There will be more layers of paint to prevent cracks.

We dry the primed casts and shape them as desired.
