Modern jewelry amazes with its unusual and original appearance. Today, almost any item, be it food or a living creature, can serve as inspiration for creating a great accessory. This master class will tell you how to easily and simply make an interesting keychain in the form of an onigiri from plastic with your own hands.
Onigiri is a Japanese dish made into a triangle of rice and wrapped in a sheet of nori. Such an original keychain in the form of a Japanese dish will appeal to any connoisseur of oriental culture and will interest his surroundings.

To make such a “tasty” product, we need to purchase three types of plastic: black, swamp green and white. We’ll also take some foil and a utility knife, which will come in handy when working with plastic.

From the accessories we will need:
• metal ring;
• connecting rings (2 pcs.);
• chain 4 cm long.

From half of the prepared piece of white plastic we make a triangle.

Roll out the remaining half into a sausage with a diameter of 5 mm.

From the obtained elements we mold grains of rice. There should be a lot of such grains of rice - 60-80 pieces.

making a plastic keychain

We randomly stick grains of rice onto the triangle blank from all sides. We pay special attention to the upper part of the workpiece, since the bottom will be partially covered by a sheet of nori.

We knead the swamp green and black plastic well, after which we mix these two colors - carefully knead the pieces together until we get a uniform dark green color. Knead and stretch our workpiece with your fingers until a rectangle 1 mm thick is formed.

Nori sheet is compressed seaweed into a layer that has an interesting texture. Achieving the formation of a similar texture on our plastic rectangle is our task. We will create a crumpled effect, like a sheet of nori, using foil. We crush it well in our hands, and then press it down on our dark green plastic rectangle. In some places of the workpiece, where the wrinkled foil is poorly imprinted, we repeat the procedure, applying the most wrinkled parts of the foil with patting movements.

making a plastic keychain

We cut off the curved edges of the workpiece, forming a regular rectangle.

making a plastic keychain

We cover the plastic rice triangle with the obtained element – a plastic sheet of nori. Our miniature onigiri is ready! All that remains is to bake and attach the accessories.

making a plastic keychain

We make a hole in the upper part of the onigiri for the connecting ring and send the workpiece to the oven, which was preheated to 110°C. The baking process will take 25 minutes.
After our product has cooled down, we can begin to attach the accessories - first we connect a small ring with a chain, then we thread this connecting ring into the hole made in the upper corner of the onigiri, and then we attach a key ring to the other end of the chain using another ring.

The original onigiri keychain is ready, all that remains is to attach it to your keychain!
